heh, i figured they wouldn't have snowboarding jackets and such but don't they at least have hoodies, long sleeve tees and t-shirts?

For the hoodies and stuff, there are actually a few shops in Causeway Bay that have that kind of "western" stuff, (definitely no snowboard apparel, LOL) my cousin will know, unfortunately he's in Montreal right now and I don't know any shops in particular. Walk around Causeway Bay and you might get lucky.

Another place for those tacky T-shirts (and hoodies) and that gets packed out by foreign tourists is Stanley Market. Its not a bad place, and you might find what you're looking for there.

Cameras, do NOT I repeat do NOT buy in TsimShaTsui district. They won't be too much cheaper than in Canada actually. (Only thing is no tax... Yay!) Fortress is a chain store that sells Cameras and other electronics, might want to check it out. (Service people a bit rude however... Good for a laugh anyways)

right, cameras and other camera-like electronics at those TST shops are not much cheaper than they are in North America. the only thing is, there's no sales tax and you can haggle. if you suck at haggling though, then forget about it.

Hmm, you will need an adapter if you plan to use a HK appliance in Canada. However, adapters are pretty thick on the ground and fairly cheap. (Don't just plug in your HK appliance in Canada or Canadian appliance in HK...it'll just blow the fuse.)

I never saw any snowboarding stuff cause nobody does that there, but there's a couple of North Face locations. I got myself one of those obnoxiously puffy jackets at one in Time Square mall in Causeway Bay and I think Sogo has them too. They have timbs there too.

I dunno if a similar district in HK exists (not TST), in Taipei there are a few streets in a pretty unremarkable area that do wholesale and specialize in cameras, mainly to professionals and amateur photographers for high-end cameras, tripods, etc. where you had to haggle, but you can manage to get a great deal. The cameras were still at around list price that are pretty much standard at every store, but if you haggle it right you can get yourself extra lens, tripods, bags, etc. along with that you can't in North America. I'm sure HK must have a similar area where the real enthusists go as well. A lot of the people working in those types of stores too are into photography themselves, so if you vibe with them well you can get good deals you can't by going to a big box store.

HK is also good for getting professional/business clothes and high-end classier goods.

in HK and vietnam for 18 days.

am currently in saigon as i'm posting this. the amount of motorbikes here is insane.

between me and my GF, we've spent about 2000 on all lodging, motorbike rentals, food, drinks, entertainment and a shitload of clothes shoes belts wallets knick nacks you name it.

yeah mong kok is cool except i hate the sick smell i think of grilled squid or something. it smells to gross it makes me want to vomit.

i cant believe anyone would want to eat whatever it is.

Anyways, i went all over the place.

ocean park, victoria peak, but i stayed mostly in the kowloon/causeway bay area as it was closest to my room.

I did venture out to stanley market and i like it there.

It's a nice scenic bus ride and stanley beach is a nice break from shopping play around in the water.

haha we have this belief that the smellier the food is, the better it taste. Thats why we put fish sauce in almost everything we eat.

Tofu is great. Stinky tofu is.... still weird for me, but to each their own. I don't think it smells quite as bad as snow ninja makes it (I guess I'm more used to it LOL) but not the biggest fan either.... Better be fried too NOT boiled boiled stinky tofu smells AND tastes AWFUL (IMO)

Now for some good fried tofu (that doesn't stink... literally) jiachang doufu from Sichuan is pretty good (albeit spicy) and in Japanese restaurants I often order a "starter" of Agedashi Tofu. Good stuff.

go to mong kok and where they have curry fish ball on that corner reeks thick. like toxic gas.

i would bring almost to the level of pepper spray or tear gas if it was more irritable.

Curry Fish Balls! Oh yeah baby those are good. REAL good.

Did you try the "Siu Mai on a stick" thing? I really like that stuff too.

no i wanted to but the heat supprressed my appetite, just felt fooded out some days.plus some places looked a bit risky. i might have been a bit paranoid.

i was trying to find that street market where theres a live seafood street restaraunt right in the middle but i couldnt find it again.

i think its tsim sha tsui. some markets looked same so i got mixed up. wish i had a tracking gps for hk

The live seafood restaurant, was it open-air? If so it might well have been Temple Street, but this is only at night. The food IS in fact quite good there, a bit touristy, but the atmosphere isn't bad and the food is honestly quite good IMO.

Yeah, be careful in HK, it is a gourmet's kinda place but not all risks are worth taking. I only eat at outdoor stalls if my aunts and uncles say its safe.

yes, there were tanks of live seafood and and it was right at an intersection of 2 market streets.

We said we wanted to go back there for food one night but could not find it all around jordan to mong kok to prince edward.

i just don't know where it went that's why i suspect it may be at tsim sha tsui.

either that or i missed it on temple street and tung choi (ladies market)
