Well, the bloom is off. When she was a 14 year old prodigy, there was a certain buzz about her. But, now, she's 18 year old player in a long line of other young female golfers. And, she's not even the top femal prospect among these young golfers.

Plus, Wie and her family is pretty much reviled by many in the golfing community. They don't play well with others. These managers and agents probably got sick of dealing with her family, and figured it wasn't worth the hassle when she wasn't even winning.

My friend was telling me some time ago about how he felt really sorry for a lot of prodigy celebrities, because the whole wonder and source of fame revolves around their talent(s) at such a young age. As they get older, the novelty of them being a "prodigy" obviously wanes and even if their abilities measure up to the greats in their respective industries or trades, the appeal is at the very least greatly diminished.

too much pressure. She's probably gone. Korea still has a few more women golfers though.

Wie seems to be like a sinking ship. Anna Rawson seems to be emerging as the next it girl of women's golf.

Hopefully this is a lesson on awarding merit rather than hype.

Well, at least Michelle Wie has her Stanford education to fall back on...

^ What sort of education is she pursuing? To get into what field?

Hopefully this is a lesson on awarding merit rather than hype.

Wie wasn't just hype - at 16, she placed in the top 5 at 3 of the 4 majors in the LPGA.

Basically, she never should have tried to play last season w/ her bum wrists (probably due to the pressure of having big-time sponsors) and she has struggled since then.

i guess we have different definitions of 'hype'. To me, she's kind of a bust. Getting the money she's getting and not producing, yeah, I would kinda call that hype.

^ I'm not saying Wie wasn't over-hyped, but not too many golfers on the LPGA can claim finishing in the top 2-5 of 3 of the 4 majors in a season.

When I asked about her age I meant that in jest. She's only 18! She has time on her side. Hopefully, she can turn her golf career around. If not, more power to her for getting all those endorsements. I have no problem with Kournikova getting paid either. Heck, I would love to be overpaid for the job that I am doing.

As would I! If only someone would have the decency to exploit me, too. Exploit me!!
