Excellent video essay which is relevant to the issues today in the middle east.
It taught me some true history from a non biased viewpoint about french to japanese colonialism up until after the American war and the real reason for war was to gain a foothold on the Asian Territory and market because Asia was viewed as competing Capitalists and not just the stereotypical "Evil Commie" stereotype used dehumanize the enemy and to recruit soldiers.
It was not the north vs. the south vietnamese as the US would like everyone to believe but the vietnamese trying to eradicate the foreign occupiers who used a minority of vietnamese that benefited from colonialism.
The vietnamese people were fighting for vietnamese indepence from any foreign control. But the americans viewed them as a proxy army of USSR and China.
warning is a bit long but very truthful and informative but is the best summing up of the short history of events leading up to the US defeat
