especially women and elderly?
i think it's because the short ones cant see over the dash coupled with mechanical retardation (inability to operate complex machinery)

How about it's because that most Asians in the USA and Canada are immigrants that didn't grow up in an environment where driving was common ? So, they move to the "West" and rush to get a license and never take the time to improve their skills.

Um, bad driving is not exclusive to Asians.

they give us such a bad name. there was a scandal in richmond bc about a driving school selling licences by taking bribes

true rc it's just i notice its more asians and east indians and old people that drive slow.
why are all your topics so....what's the term i want to use.....cringe-inducing?
where i live, majority of bad drivers are white men and women too busy yakking on their damn phones. it's true. i did a survey.

Craig hit the nail on the head. Asian immigrants who give us the rep for bad driving have not been driving since age 16 like the rest of us. You put these "great" American drivers in Asia and have them navigate through tiny streets between cars, bikes, pedestrians and they will pee in their pants. They will realize then they are not very good drivers themselves.
if you can drive in hk, you can drive anywhere.
LOL holy shit, this is just laughable,

heh, or it could be i'm an agressive driver.
i read that reticulator article and it seems quite interesting, reminds me of when a girl told me we're a product of our environment.
thanks for the site btw , it seems pretty useful.

every time i see someone pulled over by the cops or involved in a car accident, it's always a white person.
every time i'm driving along a curve, it's always a white person who cuts into my line right in front of me, narrowly missing my damn bumper, because they have trouble staying in the lane.

Basically, if you're a minority and you do something stupid, the entire race is labeled in the same fashion. That's where it comes from.

aren't you always the one complaining about other races keeping the yellow ppl down? wtf are you doing perpetuating stereotypes?

around my area, i've noticed alot of the bad drivers are mexican.
i've witnessed around several incidents of mexicans stopping at green lights. they think you have come at a full stop everytime like a stop sign.
no i notice there are bad drivers of all races but i just seem to notice the really slow sketchy driving or parking by the asian fobbies around hereCould it be that you live and/or drive in an area where there is a relatively high population of "asian fobbies?"
If I'm driving through Chinatown or the San Gabriel Valley (Cali) and someone is driving like a moron, more likely than not, he or she is going to be Asian. If I'm driving through East Los Angeles, the bad drivers tend to be Latino. Overall, the vast majority of bad drivers I've encountered tend to be white. I wonder why that is.

Snow Ninja-
Not trying to be condescending at all here, but I've noticed from your threads and you've said so yourself that you have a lot of anger issues. I think that you take some of your own personal issues and anger out on Asian American issues and Asians you see around you, such as your sister, IR couples, old women who can't drive. That won't really solve your anger or your problems with identity unless you deal with your emotional baggage first that seem to go way beyond just being Asian or let you be helpful to Asian America/Asian Canada.

the first time i heard about asians being bad drivers was in this joke. i did not get the joke because i never heard about asians being bad drivers before. i always thought asians were good drivers, eg the advanced touge culture in japan.
the worst drivers are drivers with cellphones going on.

i as whipping around this curve on the outside and this idiot in the inner lane for no reason right in front and cut me right off driving half my speed. i went around and looked and it was an asian man with glasses oblivious as usual that i was even there. I don't even think he realized even after i sped past him.
these people need to look around properly before changing lanes.
damn AND he was a four-eyed asian????? shiet, that fucker better get a thicker pair of coke-bottle glasses cuz you ain't having that.

here's probably what happened; as you were "whipping around the corner" you probably came up too fast for the guy to notice or react as he had already signaled and was already changing lanes. we've all done it, but you shouldn't blame the other guy, otherwise learn some defensive driving. drivers in china seem 100x better than the ones here. a large part of that is a lack of ego on the road. also the fact that not everyone owns a car (seriously, some ppl here in N. America should not be on the road)

Typical scene in Crystal Mall, Burnaby, BC
Scared-looking middle-aged Chinese (I assume) lady trying to back a minivan into tight Chinese-designed parking space. Dents one car, goes back out. Tries to back in again. Hits other car. I chuckle and drive off.
Cut them some slack, man. I'm from Vancouver too, I see what you see all the time but there's alot of Asians and East Indians here who don't have the culture of driving that we do here, so naturally they won't drive as well.
Also, there was this survey done by reader's digest back in 1999 or something where they rated the best and worst parallel parkers in the world:
Best: German men, 80% on first try
Worst: Singaporean women, only 15% on first try.
As for the elderly, really what do you expect. Old white people drive the same way, REALLY painfully slow. So its not just an Asian thing.
P.S. The Crystal Mall parking lot freaking blows. Really parking at any Asian-designed mall (Richmond or wherever) just blows. They have no clue how many people drive minivans and SUVs here.

i know what you mean,
watching some parallel parking and inside richmond malls is ridiculous, the drivers are oblivious, sketching side to side hitting things like you said.
the aberdeen centre, you cant even turn the corner somtimes.. i guess they were tight on design space.
and they all have parking staff , direcxting traffic LOL

maybe not a conspiracy but possibly a generalization, anyone who drive like that does annoy the heck out of me tho, evrybody does that but mostly the people i mentioned around here.

I admit I'm a pretty bad driver when the roads are busy. I get way too impatient. The road just looks like one giant line-up to me.
You can say the same for African or Hispanic immigrants who have never driven a car before coming to the US.
I'm sure Saudi women (starting off) aren't great behind the wheel either.

You need to get out more then. Like hang out in places other than BC. Try LA. The "bad drivers" there may speak a different language than what you're used to.

a conspiracy? like asians got together and decided to trick society by driving poorly? not sure i understand the first post which explains the topic of this thread.
but if so, i highly doubt it's a consipracy. i don't think i ever conferred with any asians - aside from my dad - about how to drive.

Granted since I don't hang around most groups, I'm not really in a good position to know all their actions, but I have known white people getting other white people to take the driving exams for them in other states, etc.
i'm asian and i drove off with the skill of an F1 pro the first time i got behind the wheel of our family's old chevy

Basing all this junk off your observations from such a narrow scope (as in, from just your own observations, and only your own observations from British Columbia) is a pretty junky way of making such a blatantly incorrect generalization that it's just enervating to try and read anymore into your posts.
Try living in Nor Cal where seemingly no one understands the concept of the "fast" left lane that should be for "faster" moving traffic than the soccer mom in her oversized SUV/Van.

I concur. This topic is quite skewed. I've never heard of Asians being such bad drivers. The same goes for every bad driver from any background. Why does race have a direct correlation with how one drives?

I think you see a lot of crappy old drivers because they started driving at such a late age, or the whole driving culture thing wasn't even in existence yet throughout much of their lives. I highly doubt that people who have driven their entire lives really get that much slower or less coordinated even as they age into their 60's. Case in point, my friend's dad, who is pushing the mid 50's, still drives like a maniac.

Who stays on the fast lane constantly anyway. I just got use to driving zig zagging from 3rd and 4th lanes.
My comment on the topic would be drivers come in all races, but I know immigrant new drivers are the worse.
I remember a white guy driving on my right side swerves in to my lane nearly hitting me if I didn't swerve out of his way. Naturally I honked at his dumb ass and he honks back. So my road rage kicked in and I yelled at him. He yells back saying someone breaked in front of him, what am I suppose to do asshole fuck. So I cursed him out saying you BREAK you idiot #@#@#@!!@#$$%%!~!, hitting him or hitting me IS THE SAME SHIT! After that, my friend on the passenger side became tone deaf.

Most people from out of state do. Just watch the "fast" lane next time, and you see all the out of towners watching the rest of us do the bob and weave through traffic.
In the last 4 days, I've had about 8 separate incidents where someone just decided it was their turn to go ahead and turn at the sign, against the red, right at me. Friggen morons. I've got to aim my headlights on my lowered Civic higher so I can appropriately retaliate in annoying fashion.

THIS MORNING, theres a beamer in front of me on hwy 1 in the fast lane (left)
she slows right down and makes me slow so she can proceed to go into the right lane then exits at the 200 street exit.
i can see you doing that if you almost missed your exit but i looked over and she was asian and i think she was oblivious to me behind her.
If that was me i would speed up and pass but weak drivers don't like to accelerate quickly or speed even if it annoying to everyone else.
they would rather wait for the slow traffic right to pass her first and in the process bring traffic behind her even slower than the slow lane, so she has an opportunity to lane change. Damn people nowadays. so fucking clueless..
The other day, this guy was driving 55 miles an hour in the fast lane. He was white. So what?

200 street exit? Isn't that in Langley or something?
Also, that's the price you pay for Vancouver being such a "multicultural city".
Hey, I've seen bad drivers from other ethnicities (Eastern Europeans who drive like maniacs and honk at buses to get them to go faster. I know because I was in that car with my Russian-Canadian friend, who immediately apologized to me as it was his dad who was driving and said that's how Russians drive supposedly) and they all go through it because they're all new immigrants. my mom used to drive real slow but not anymore, give them time. Its just that Vancovuer gets a constant stream of immigrants, hence the driving problems.
BTW, I know some really good driving instructors (true driving instructors, not the crazy HK guys we have in Richmond LOL) here in Vancouver who are Asian, but yes in case you're asking they're all men.
I love Vancouver

That's because you live in SF. People don't follow any rules at all in that city. On another note, I hate SF taxis with passion. They think they own the roads. I remember I was driving on Geary towards JTown when this taxi behind me and goes around and cuts me off then break for some people calling for him. I was like WHAT THE HELL. I yelled at him with vengeance and I guess I scared his customers away and the taxi honk like crazy at me yelling while I drove away.
