A long, mostly unplanned vacation, the type of vacation you'd probably only be able to plan between jobs and not crammed into the designated two weeks. I like the spontaneity that comes with backpacking but not the hostels and subculture. So my vacation would involve extremely light packing and motorbiking from snorkeling spot to snorkeling spot and staying in boutique B&Bs.

Anytime where I get to pamper myself for longer than usual. Maybe that means backpacking through somewhere and maybe that means going to the beach for a few days. Hong Kong is my usual vacation destination here. I can enjoy luxuries and company of old friends for a few days and feeling carefree and being completely touristy.

ditto. with my entire family. we did that a lot when i was little - traveling in packs, i mean. 5 families w/ kids, etc. it's just so much more fun with a crowd.

I'm trying to convince mine to go, but they really don't want to cause they think it will be messy. I'm already going to be in Shanghai in early June... so I am like, why not.

Anywhere that involves me to get my passport stamped and lugging my 75 liter backpack. Dream vacation for me would be a round the world trip, whilst seeing all the 7 wonders.
i am competing with my sister to see who can get the most passport stamps. so far i think i'm winning, but not by much.
vacation....why do my dream vacations always involve me being by myself? do i REALLY not like people? what is wrong with me?

Probably you haven't found other like-minded people as you to go traveling. I prefer traveling on my own since you get to meet other travelers.
Another thing that is good is that you don't have to think about others around you but yourself. Ok, it sounds selfish but at least you will get to enjoy your holiday even more.
i had a chance to do that this summer....traveling alone to france.
but i was too chicken shit.
and you're right about the not worrying about others part. most of the time when i'm by myself, i'm a lot happier.

any type of vacation is a dream vacation, instead of being stuck for 1 week at the in-laws during xmas time, because my hubby caught pneumonia at arrival.
sometimes i think having white in-laws are better than having chinese, and i'm chinese. yeah, flame me.

^ Great. I had to follow that.
Ideally, I'll go for a week at a nice beach somewhere or some place I haven't visited. Lately, I have been going on a long weekend trip to big cities trip to SF, NYC, etc while visiting friends and family there. That weren't too bad. I actually had a lot of fun doing that.
