chestnut defeats kobayashi 66-63 hot dogs. success!
USA! USA! USA! USA!
yeah yeah kobayashi had jaw arthritis, wisdom tooth extracted blah blah...a win is a win. a true champion overcomes adversity. michael jordan still won the big game when he played with the flu in game 5 versus the jazz in 1997 and eventually won the nba championship.

i was just watching a re-run of this. at 39 seconds left, the commentator actually said something like, "if Chestnut wins, this will be the greatest moment in the history of American sports!"

That's kind of funny and kind of disappointing. I'm assuming it's because we're taking back what's "rightfully ours?"
*On a side note, I DO NOT get the logic behind placing punctuation within quotation marks, especially in situations like these. MLA can suck my diiiick!

Oh dear God I wish I could scarf down 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes. God. But I could never ever bring myself to do something like this.

I am wondering why "Hebrew hot dogs" did not do a contest like this??

It was tongue in cheek, and supposed to be sarcastic. The whole IOFCE was originally started as a joke.

I was at Coney Island last year for the 53 hot dog record (at the time). The announcers for the contestants are absolutely hilarious. They build up each contestant like they are the next coming of Christ or something, with phrases like "four horsemen of the esophagus"
66 is just crazy and gross. I do love that the best guys at this are relatively skinny (Kobayashi is one buff mofo nowadays though).
