It wouldn't make a difference either way if you embraced them or not. If they are mixed then they are mixed. You could say that they are one of us, but again I would argue that there is no us.

Well I think it's quite unfair to say "you're not with us!" because some 'hapas' might be born in an environment that was a bit segregated from the Asian side of their identity...so they are just used to being more like their other side.

I lean towards the "forget them" option, at least in terms of whether I consider them as one of my own people or not. Sure, Kristen Kreuk and Michelle Branch are hot, but so are lots of other N. American mainstream media figures. I haven't got any more cultural similarity to white-cultured hapas, or for that matter white-cultured Asian-Americans, than I do to the average white person raised in America. Whether or not they "acknowledge" their Asian side or not, or go out to Asian-American media events or not, or decide to "explore their heritage" by reading some Amy Tan books, isn't gonna change that fact.

I don't think everyone is wording the answer correctly. Forget them? Why? Because you only like movies and music with Asian people being portrayed in positive ways?

I think it might be better to simply say that you don't take any more notice of them.

I don't know who half the people you are talking about are anyway.

Does it matter if WE embrace them? I highly doubt they care. I don't know any of them, so I don't know if they identify with Asians or not... until I know that, I couldn't give a fuck.

I dunno. I think everyone wants a piece of Tiger and want to force him to choose a 'side'. I feel for him. He even has a press release explaining his ethnicity. He shouldn't have to choose or prove anything.

Hey, Tiger Woods is my hero. He's the only famous Hapa who identifies himself AS a Hapa, instead of choosing a side (like Halle Berry, for example). Plus he made it a point of aknowledging his Thai heritage (and White, and Native American,and...) when everyone was touting him as the first Black PGA champion.

Whoops, sorry, Halle Berry is White and Black, not Asian at all. I keep forgetting that "Hapa" is not the same as "biracial".

Adam Sandler has written a "Hanukkah Song," in which he "outs" a number of ethnically Jewish celebrities who aren't immediately identified as Jewish, celebrities like Robert De Niro and Jennifer Connolly (who are both half-Jewish). He performs this in his movie Eight Crazy Nights. Maybe someone should write a "Hapa Song."

is she part asian? anyone know what, specifically?
(and yeah, i did look on the internet, but all i could find is that she's welsh)

No. Maybe try getting info from a paper that doesn't regularly carry headlines like HEADLESS CORPSE FOUND IN TOPLESS BAR :P

i think her looks come from the "black irish" side of her family. i guess a long time ago, some spaniards settled in ireland either by choice or shipwreck and the people who had the darker coloring were called "black irish". unless, of course, she gets her coloring from the welsh side of the family. :P

I believe the Black Irish are descendants of Irish people and the Spanish sailors who were shipwrecked there after the English navy defeated the Spanish armada.

How about Ray Munns, an MTVjay who I learned was 1/2 Korean yesterday and only revealed his Korean-ness backstage when he was never on camera and had a thing for Suchin Pak (uggh narsty).

No, that's my Japanese first name and my mother's maiden name. Yu = yuyujiteki no yu, hei = heiwa no hei; Carreau is a slightly mangled spelling of a French name (it should be Carreaux).

it's just because she was so cool in an era where all other news and tv personalities were outdated or boring. No she wasn't terribly attractive, but she was a rebel. That whole channel was back in the day.

I don't know who Jay-Z is, so I can't answer. However, I have noticed that most of the people I've met or seen that are half Filipino or Indonesian seem to be able to easily pass as White (except if their skin color is dark).
