so I'm staying in midtown manhattan, the Belvedere, which is on 48th and 8th. I'm stuck with the parents mostly so we're just trying to wing it until Friday when a family friend is getting married. I wanna stuff my face with pizza but what's some good other stuff to eat (specifically Chinese so they don't guilt trip me)

also where should I go? I would like to check out Brooklyn and hopefully get into a fight with a gang of charming Italian kids, but I don't know what else there is to do there cept play stickball

all the good dim sum is in flushing now if you want dim sum. if you wanna eat in chinatown, go eat at big wong on mott. the place is famous for roast meats. order the sam bo fun.

go hang out in union square. you can also look at the hippy protesters over there. it'll be just like you were in berkeley again.

let me know if you go picking a fight in brooklyn, i wanna laugh at you while you're curled up in the fetal position on the ground and getting your face kicked in by a gang of guineas and guidos named vinny, sal and vito.

Make sure someone's there getting it all on tape.

I'm hoping to catch a youtube of Sherman smiling and waving at the cameraman before getting mugged on camera.

That would be awesome.

Much man <3, Sherm. =P

I.M. Pei also eats at big wong pretty regularly if you're into architecture.

I'm not in the city right now, but around 48th and 8th, walk a block west to 9th and you'll find a plethora of restaurants. If you want Chinese, try Grand Sichuan on 9th and 51st or so. For pizza in midtown go to John's on 44th and 8th. The better dim sum is in Flushing, so take the 7 train from 42nd and 7th to the other end in Flushing. You can take the NR train down to Canal Street to get to Chinatown. For really good pizza, try Grimaldi's in Brooklyn, Lombardi's in SoHo or Patsy's in Harlem. If you want to stick to 9th, I'd recommend the following restaurants from South to North: Tony Luke's, HK, Hell's Kitchen, Say Cheese, Empanada Mama, eatery, Fluff. I'm positive I'm missing a bunch of places.

Mario Batali has a place on 44th named Esca. Le Madeline on 44th is also very good. There's an italian place on 47th that I forgot the name of that I used to like. Amy's Bread on 9th and 48th is excellent for sandwiches and cake and bread. There's a diner on 44th that was the place where Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld used to meet to discuss new plots for Seinfeld.

Good luck and enjoy.

For Korean, the main street in Manhattan is W 32 St, between Broadway and 5th Ave.

There are more places in Flushing, if you make it out there, but you might need a car (or walk to Northern Blvd, then take a bus) to reach some of them

you're very close to Restaurant Row - 46th St between 8th and 9th Aves

If you and your folks are willing to splurge a bit of $, Churrascaria Plataforma on 49th St (between 8th and 9th Aves) is a nice Brazilian all-you-can-eat restaurant

I like the East Village - lots of variety and interesting places there, and prices are usually slightly lower
Lots of Japanese (among other Asian) places on St. Mark's Place, between 2nd and 3rd Aves

If you like Indian food, check out "Curry Hill" which is centered around Lexington Ave and 28th St. There are some more places on E 6th St, between 1st and 2nd Aves.

You can find pretty much any kind of food you want, somewhere in the city

What about WaHo? Do they have Waffle Houses over there? They're not exactly five-star either, but I remember going to one in TX and daaang it was some good stuff. Cheap too, but satisfying. Never really liked IHOP. Not sure about Denny's.

there's a lot of shit to eat in NYC.

in terms of ramen, i've been to minca in east village (i think). damn tasty. but apparently, all of the good chinese shit has moved out to flushing for some reason.

there's also a pretty good asian buffet place - i forget the name but they actually have quality shit there.

You want him to go to chain restaurants in Times Square to get the exact same food he could eat in the Bay Area? Idiot.

I hear that the Micky D's in NYC are different than the ones in the Bay Area.

I think they do like you do and say, "Here's your food. Idiot." I want to record that on my digital camera and save it for my memories.

Chances are, if we're visiting there, then we're only interested in quick bites in somewhere familiar, so that we can move along to taking a zillion photos of the next tourist attraction.

And I don't mind snapping a zillion pics of what the locals might think is commonplace. Sure, they may say, "Idiot. What you've never seen the Brooklyn Bridge?" And I'll humbly say, "No. My friend." And if they come to the Bay Area, I'll ask if they want me to snap a family pic next to the Trans America building or something, because I realize its new to them.

Because truly, eating at the times square mcdonalds is exactly like taking a picture of the one of a kind and only in san Francisco transamerica building. And new York restaurants are never tourist attractions upon themselves, even if they were featured on the food network or other TV shows or if they have celebrity chefs like the ones I mentioned.

Negative karma? Haha. Idiot.

Exactly! It's the Times Square McDonald's. So much more fabulous.

When I go to NYC next, I'm going to snap pix of the store fronts of the one's I eat at. Caption: "Been here. Ate that."

Lethal is almost like an Asian American Anthony Bourdain. He really knows his stuff & he’s a bit of a food nazi. lol

But seriously, what happened to Lethal & Faithless?
Food is supposed to bring people together like those ‘90s food genre movies (e.g. Eat Drink Man Woman). I guess if it’s just 2 dudes & no actual food in front of them... said dudes are gonna fight. Lethal, no more creatine for you!

Next time Faithless is in town, we should all check out Camille Becerra’s Paloma. Simple ‘New Urban American’ style menu. You can have your Mickey D’s fries in the cab, Faithless.

Sylvia's is pricey. Not far away is Charle's Southern Skillet - a small place that has a great all-you-can-eat southern buffet.

For mid-town try Daisy May's BBQ. Great beef short ribs!

46th and 8th, go to the Halal Pizza place that's open 24 hours. They also have a bakery there that makes great donuts and crullers and cakes.

I also miss the gyro cart on 48th and Madison - Rafique's. Get the chicken and lamb on rice combo with extra white sauce (tadzyki sauce for all you purists) Add a Pepsi and it's under around $5.

There's also an indian place between Old Navy and an Irish pub on 33rd street around the Hotel Pennsylvania across from Penn Station. tHE FRONT OF THE ESTABLISHMENT IS aMERICAN STYLE FOOD (MEATLOAF, CHICKEN, HOTDOGS, ETC.) tHE BACK IS AN INDIAN BUFFET. Great combo plate for $7 - the curried lamb on brown rice with some spinach and chick peas is great. On some days, they have lamb brains which I crave from time to time - just the zombie in me - Brains... Brains...BRAAAAAAIIINSSS!!

I miss those places. Nothing like them here in DC.

Charles' Southern Style Kitchen always gets great reviews & the prices are low. Real Southern/Soul.

There's a new traditional Texas barbecue place on W 26th - Hill Country Barbecue Market. I think they've been open a couple months. Excellent & authentic but pricey.

Cong Ly's pho rocks. And it's next to the $15 bus to Boston.

And I gotta mention Mo' Pho' in Fort Lee, NJ. Isn't that where David Letterman get's his pho?
