Does anyone else watch "So You Think You Can Dance?" If not, Hok, a.k.a Hokuto Konishi, has made it to the top 18 and looks like he might make it to the top ten. No, he's not American but he is a visible Asian male on an American show, popular, and though he has an accent it's a British one. I daresay he's becoming a sex symbol (despite his hair).
You can youtube search him if you want. I think it's interesting because if anything he's presented as a normal, sexualized, male.

He is awesome. I saw some of his buddies dance during the auditions last season. I didn't think Hok was the best BREAKDANCER of the group. I think it was that guy that did like he was walking during a backflip. Hok can probably learn other dances the best.
But despite all my praising I would bet money he WON'T make it to the top.

GL to him. Honestly what we need is more APIAs wowing everyone. Winning seems to place just as much a role in how they're received, especially after the show but yeah. Sigh...R.I.P. (for now?) Harlemm Lee's career.

Haha. He reminds me of some of my cousins that grew up or studied a great deal in the UK and have those funky British accents. I found it especially entertaining while playing heated matches of Goldeneye with them and everyone started yelling.
"Oh blost...why kont I seem to find a bloddy grenayde loncha~"

Funky to you, hot to the [American] ladies. Don't take my word for it. Check out the comments on his youtubed vids.

^ Oh no doubt. It's just that he's a guy. I found the accents of some of my female cousins hot too. I mean, before I found out they were my cousins. Then it just became eww and creepy from there. Honestly.

Hmmm... yeah he does have a British accent, but that's because he actually grew up in the UK.

i think hes there so the show wont be called racist, considering how many good asian bboys are out there. his female partner was talking about maybe having a crush on him. considering she was pretty good looking, no way in heck is america going to let an asian guy get away with this. voters are against him so lets see how much longer the judges can keep him on.

He may more popular than his partner. They've never been up for elimination so the judges haven't been keeping him on past the "Top 20" round. They're getting enough votes.
Top 10 will be announced next week.

Unfortunately, despite kicking everyone's ass in the preliminary competition, Hok is disqualified for not having the proper work visa, as he's in the U.S. as a student.

That was last season. They made a big to-do about his work visa during the audition rounds. Unless this is a new revelation in the past two weeks? I haven't had TV for a couple of weeks so I'm out of touch until I finish moving.
he's not hot to me.
his dancing is though.

It's quite funny to know that he grew up in UK - his accent sound like a hybrid between an Aussie and a Brit...

As much as I want him to succeed. An Asian guy dancing with a good looking white girl in front of America is a big no no. Hes sooo screwed.

What makes you think that? To my knowledge they've always been safe, i.e., they are popular enough week to week to not be up for elimination. Moot point anyhow. Sometime soon the couples are disbanded and they start switching around partners and they earn votes individually instead of by couple. That should be telling.

He just danced with that girl again. Girl praised him "He is Japanse, talks british, cooks italian." He danced broadway tonight and got shitted on by the judges.
I can't imagine what would happen if a foreigner wins. Shows like these are fantasies for Americans. American Idol viewers have fantasies of being on the stage and being the people they are looking at. This show is no different. Whites and blacks would not be able to do this looking at an Asian man. If this was a female at least there would be eye candy.
Even if he does get the votes, I think they would still rig it for the sake for the shows future.

Uhhh, did you see who won this last season's Dancing with the Stars?
His partner was hot, too. So I'm not sure if ya know what you're talkin' about.

I am assuming you are talking about Ohno?
He doesn't look Asian at all and thats the difference.
Not hard for the viewers to relate to him.

I'm still failing to see how that relates to how he dances.
So he's an attractive Asian guy who can dance and went into the competition as such . . . .
as compared to Ohno who didn't know how to dance PRIOR to his show, but won it . . . .
and so you think that because Ohno "doesn't look Asian at all" is the reason why he won on his show and that Hok would lose on his . . . .
all because Hok (in your opinion) appears more Asian than Ohno.
Yep.
I can't say I agree with your statement there.
I'm trying my best not to bang my head against inanimate objects while keeping this post as objective as possible. It's pretty difficult.

cloud's just skeptical. i can understand even if i do like hok and still hope he makes it really far. asian or not, i don't think he's the best dancer there. but he should have a career in dance after.
