Non-Asian related, but the last paragraph in this article annoyed me. Sorry, can't post links yet

paragraph:
US rapper Xzibit should blame his representatives and not Rove McManus for what led to his no show on the Network Ten's Rove program on Sunday.

Xzibit, who is on tour in Australia, was due to perform a rap duet with Canadian crooner Michael Buble on the light entertainment show.
But the performance didn't go ahead as planned after Xzibit walked out before the show, unhappy with the arrangement.

The rapper has claimed the way he was treated by the Network Ten show was racist in an obscure post on his MySpace website entitled, "Rove the Racist".

"The gopher of the show came to me with some idea of a 'rap off' with a lounge singer named Micheal Booblay (sic)," the post attributed to Xzibit said.

The post however didn't refer to any specific racist comments, just that Xzibit's request to perform solo wasn't agreed to by the show's producers.

"Xzibit's representatives knew the nature of the proposed segment involving Michael Buble and Xzibit rapping to one of Xzibit's songs," a statement from Roving Enterprises said in response.

"They had agreed to perform on that basis, but once at the studio on Sunday, Xzibit made it clear that he was not going to perform the segment as agreed."

Not long after Xzibit's inflammatory post today his fans began a chorus of support in the comments section of his site before other MySpace users defended Rove.

"Xzibit and his representatives proposed performing a solo piece, which we could not accommodate as we already had a confirmed music guest, and as a general practice we do not have two music acts on one show," the Roving statement continued.

The Xzibit post claimed a Rove producer said his material would not be suitable for the target demographic of Rove.

Roving Enterprises wouldn't buy into the argument preferring to say: "We attempted to negotiate a suitable compromise, but Xzibit chose instead not to perform."

Or in the words of Xzibit: "I got up and thanked her for the time and wonderful hospitality and went out the front door hopped in my shit and rolled out". Meaning, he got into his car and left the South Melbourne studios.

As ludicrous as the situation was, and as amusing as Xzibit's manner of speech is, the writer comes off as trying to assume a smug position of power over the rapper, implying difference and superiority in nationality, race, culture and class based on a few words.

Anyone else sees elements of all that or have I been studying Arts for too long :P

Well, I didn't catch any of this locally in the news, but the thought of Xzibit on Rove is akin to John Denver hosting TRL. Rove's style tends to be very middle road, watered down, non-controversial and safe.

I wouldn't doubt there may be a little smugness in the journo's writing, but it would have more to do with the fact celebs and their antics are taken as nothing more than light entertainment.

As for the incident itself, I doubt there was racism involved, more just a sense of 'doesn't fit'. The statement above just sounds like a corporatised statement that might have come out of the PR or HR departments.

Rove tends to get the big name visiting celebs on his show because he hosts the flagship chatshow on one of our biggest channels, despite the fact he's a crap interviewer.

Compared to Conan and Leno, he' as Sunday School as you get.

Visiting Hip Hop stars tend to be less exhalted just because the local market and culture are more pop, rock and indie, so maybe Rove's reps didn't treat Xzibit the way he might have been in another country.

For the record, I own all of Xzibit's albums and he is no. 2 in my books behind only Jay Z. I think Rove's a lame-ass embarrassment to his timeslot and the nation, so i wouldn't stick up for him if I thought he was racist.

It's not so much amusing as it is vulgar and unclear. Maybe Aussies don't know that "my shit" means car.

I think you have a smugly racist attitude to the author and host because they are probably older White men and you think they should be more submissive and deferential to your black rapper hero.

Xzibit also has a racist arrogance born of a sense of entitlement that many black celebrities have because of the intense worship they receive.

He expects that White man to worship him as a god like figure and not the mediocre, vulgar rap clown that he is.

"Racist" in this context is code. It just means anybody perceived as a threat to the black male ego.

No more no less.

Look at the absurdly worshipful camera angle form the article

Nah, just spotting inequities objectively as I see them. The last line had a condescending tone and my condescend-o-meter was off the scale. It was a reaction to a colleague who proceeded to rant about 'stupid black people' after reading the article himself, the dear ignorant man.
