I watched it over and over again about 18 times because of the rap music.

They should make a part 2 with people like Hines Ward and Manny Pacquiao.

Puh-leeze. Tiger Woods more Asian than anything else?
Hines Ward? That's going too far. Dude's mother was treated like SHIT for having a half black baby...

So now all I have to do to get widespread acceptance from the Asian community is become famous?

K. I'm right on that.

I have to agree. After living a life of being shunned by Asians, why is it that they are so eager to accept mixed people as Asians once they become famous? I mean, part of me is happy that these people are at least getting recognized as Asian, but another part sees the hypocracy that there is in accepting them. So yeah, all we have to do is become famous then. But then again, it still matters if we look it or not.

Russel Wong for instance gets to be Asian... Dean Cain apparently does not.

Maybe its the Asian last name?

What's the proazn standard again? You're Asian if you have an Asian last name unless you're not Asian or you don't look Asian (to his eyes) or some crap like that?

hey man, Hines Ward was shunned by blacks too. The cornerbacks he faced against called him 'chink'.

you're asian if people think you're asian or you consider yourself asian.

Lookism is really what it comes down to despite anyone's self-identifications. Tiger Woods considers himself (self-identifying in interviews) more influenced by his Thai mom and got flak got the Black community too, he does look quite Thai though, to me anyway and tried to make people deal him being multiracial. Hines Ward looks unmistakably Asian too, but in America one drop of Black is Black. I doubt anyone was giving him or his mom any love before he became a famous athlete.

Anyway, dude that Cung Le guy is dominate in that video! Holy shit, Sanshou champion taking down these big white guys like pinatas. There's a roll model for Asian guys and Asian athletes in general.

Hmmm, being called chink...or being ostracized from Korean society.

Which one do you think is worse?

I'm not denying that he was made fun of by blacks, but now alluva a sudden, Asians are tripping overthemselves trying to claim him. He was shunned by Koreans here too. And they know FULL WELL that back in Korea, if he wasn't famous, he'd be treated like shit.

ABC - Yeah, I know lookism. It sucks.
I thought that he simply said he refuses to be called black. He is multiracial. That's where that cablinasian thing came from.
NOT in America only, back in Korea he was just black too....until he became famous...now he's the symbol of the preserverance of Koreans. (How he overcame his "bad" black blood, which is what the message was basically) Now he's the symbol of how good Koreans are. Now he's the symbol of a multiracial Korea.

....Yeah, I was just a tiny bit pissed, sorry for derailing the thread.

Yeah, that Cung Le guy is awesome.

I can see where you're coming from. I've just always seen him as an Asian guy. That's why I mentioned him, but you do bring up a valid point.

I did Wushu before in college. Wushu is a non-combat form of Kung Fu that is for primarily performance. So a lot of wide sweeping kicks, punches, and jumps. It really requires excellent excellent physical condition maybe moreso than other martial arts. I wasn't that good at it because I didn't have the time to devote to both physical training and the sport, but it put me in good shape.

San shou/散手 is the combat form of wushu so to speak that mixes several types of Chinese martial arts developed by the Chinese government that's known for it's spectactular throwdowns.

Well the reason I say Tiger is more Asian than anything else is because by blood his is. According to his Wikipedia page...

Tiger Woods is one-eighth Chinese, one eighth Filipino, one-quarter Thai, one-quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch.

If you believe ethnicity goes by the Father or you believe in the archaic American 1-drop (black blood) standard then you can say Tiger is Black, cause you know the majority of the public & media will see him as such.

But by blood, Tiger is an Asian Man and the greatest golfer ever.

Sorry to hear that BetheReds. I consider all mixed Asians to be Asians as long as they do so themselves. I would even consider Whites & Blacks who were raised/born in Asia and speak the language to be "More Asian" then AA's who grow up in the states and deny their heritage. There are those who have Asian blood and those who have Asian soul. Both are Asians but the ladder is more important I think.
