1) sometimes it's simply not available nearby, and even if it was,
2) processed/prepared foods are a hella lot more expensive relative to local food available at the market. there's usually a minimum base cost involved in preparation and packaging that it's just not possible to go under.
in the US, it's the opposite: when you're working two or three jobs, it might be that you don't have the time to prepare stuff from scratch. organic (even just plain fresh) foods are more expensive oftentimes.

hahaha dong family aka the dongers and rofl at the aboubakar family and what they eat, it doesn't seem to be a lot.
