Was just looking for observations on this generic topic. I noticed a comment (by LethalWeapon, I believe) where it said something like applications as his law school went up 20%, 40%, 40% at his current school in the last three years, respectively. I have to admit, I only have tunnelvision aimed at a small subset of the majors (not including law) and was just curious as what things were like elsewhere and how divergent the situation was.

My $0.02. I was under the impression that applications for CS have gone down noticeably as of late (at least at my school). However, I had a friend that tried to contact another school for cs graduate school (let's just call it one of the crappier schools in silicon valley) and he was told they were swamped. Is my impression incorrect, or are many assuming that applications are up so high that they are avoiding some places and shooting low ?

It could be that all those now unemployed software engineers are deciding that rather than being unemployed and searching for a job, they'd go back for their MSCS or MSEE and try to ride out the recession while in school studying what they know and enjoy best.
