I just found this out, but apparently Avril does multiple recordings of her own songs and records herself singing in other languages. I'm not sure about her other languages, but the Mandarin Chinese version of "Girlfriend" is IMO SOOO bad as to be laughable. She doesn't even make sense, I mean, she said "I am not my (own) girlfriend" (我不是我的女朋友...?) in the first sentence, which just sounds garbled. After that I can't even understand her accent.

does she do this for ALL her songs? I can understand her trying to appeal to a wide audience, but I don't know, i think the only people who listen to her understand english anyways, so I see no reason to do this. NO REASON.

Damn I was about it post that. Took me a while cause her accent's very unclear.

But she should seriously stick to English, these versions in other languages just sound.... weird.

bad mandarin is only funny when it comes out of the mouth of an abc. a white chick trying to speak mandarin is hot no matter if she's good or bad at it.

Nobody seems to react negatively when the Asian popstars try to make english language songs, despite those usually sucking ass (with exceptions)

Whos reacting negatively? I think its kinda cool. Unless she really butchers the language then I can understand why someone would be pissed.

I'm really annoyed when they put drops of English that don't make any sense in their songs. But are successful in this way, but most aren't.

The first few posters reacted negatively, though I see that most of us don't seem to think it's a problem.

The drops of English here and there don't really bother me that much, but I can see why people might find that annoying.

And yeah the Chinese one sounded like it went through some kind of screwed up mixer.

I tried translating the first verse of this song into Chinese: (just for fun, not a serious translation)
你真棒我想要你你真好味道

就是! 我就是你媽的公主! (I love this line the best! :biggrin:)
我看你喜歡我你知道我是對....(的 was cut in order to fit the rhythm)

I tried to make it fit the rhythm of the song so its not "correct" Chinese XD XD
