saw this yesterday. while the silver surfer was definitely awesome, i found the rest of the movie lacking. i especially rolled my eyes when he said he had to destroy worlds to save the one he loved. *gag* omg.....does every comic brought to life HAVE to have a love story angle???? i thought the silver surfer was kick ass until he said that one line. i want my action movies to actually BE about the action, not some frou-frou "feelings and emotions" barf-o-rama. there's already enough of that dreck on tv and girl movies.

I saw FF:ROTSS the other day, and I found its frou-frou moments actually touching — surprisingly so. Those of us familiar with the Silver Surfer’s backstory from the comics (I think that I may still have my old coverless issue of Silver Surfer #1) expected the barf-o-rama, and I think that it added to the movie.

My one complaint about FF:ROTSS concerns the clothing. Okay, the first movie established that (three of) the Fantastic Four’s blue costumes could conform to their powers because they are made of a special material, and Reed, Sue, and Johnny were wearing them at the time that they were struck with radiation. Consequently, Reed’s outfit can stretch with him, Sue’s can turn invisible, and Johnny’s can burn without becoming burnt. Fine, mythology established.

But in the new movie, Reed is wearing these civilian clothes that stretch with him. Where did he get them? Also, Johnny wears a few civilian outfits that burn with his body. Where did he get those as well? The reason that this bothers me is because, while the male members of the Fantastic Four can find these unlikely civilian clothes that can conform to their powers, the female member of the group apparently can’t. And her inability to find such outfits inevitably ends up with her being naked in public.

So, while Johnny’s civilian threads can “flame on” with him in the opening scene, when Sue unexpectedly catches his power, she burns off her civilian clothes, leaving her — wait for it — naked in public.

Now, I don’t mind the idea of Sue Storm — especially when she’s played by Jessica Alba — being naked in the movie, however implied or off-screen the nudity might be. I don’t even regard her instances of public nudity as humiliating to her (I personally regard these moments as stealth celebrations of nudism). But the double standard bugs me a bit — Reed’s civilian clothes can stretch with him, Johnny’s can burn with him, but something about Sue’s clothes will turn her into a horseless Godiva — and it makes the scene(s) of her public nudity seem especially contrived when it didn’t have to.

But since the boys plop down their box-office money for scenes like this, I suppose that I’m the only guy complaining.

i have no clue what you're talking about burning hot suits? stretchy suits? naked jessica alba cuz her suit burned?

i have a suit that's hot and it fits well so i guess it stretches with my body movements made by prada. it also got women naked a few times.
