The call was first played on “The Dog House With JV and Elvis,” a midmorning show on WFNY, on April 5, the day after Don Imus made his comment about the Rutgers women’s basketball team on WFAN, another CBS-owned station. The call was then replayed on “The Dog House” on Thursday, a week after Mr. Imus was fired by CBS Radio.
In the skit, a series of apparently unsuspecting employees of a Chinese restaurant are berated by a caller who tells one woman he would like to “come to your restaurant” to see her naked, especially a part of her body he refers to as “hot, Asian, spicy.” The caller also attempts to order “flied lice,” brags of his prowess in kung fu and repeatedly curses at several employees.
what exactly does this have to do with natasha yi? guess who she's MARRIED to? why mr. JV himself sellout whore? nah...

All i know about Natasha Yi: hot import tuner pics & she said she didn't know Playboy was a nudie mag. I don't really expect much from her, know what I mean? (Not that I have anything against race queens:wink:!)
The real issue: 2 DJs wanted exposure after the Imus scandal.... they targeted Asians, knowing that CBS Radio would only give them a slap on the wrist.

Host JV ('Jeff Vandergrift ') is the "leader" of The Dog House. He was known as a flirtatious party drug user when The Dog House began on Wild 107.7, but had mellowed by the time he started dating his girlfriend Natasha Yi in 2003 and married in 2006.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natasha_Yi
Natasha Yi (born in Boston, Massachusetts) is a model and actress who gained national prominence in 1999, when she appeared in Playboy Newsstand Specials and was voted one of Reader's Choice Top 10 models. She is Korean American.

Write to the places, pass this around to activist sites or other places like that and try to get something going. You guys sound like you've already lost without trying.
Writing her about being "a sellout whore" isn't going to do any good but getting on the people who are playing the show will and when they write back make sure you post that letter around again (espically if they say something out the way or try to cover it up) and get more support.
I know it isn't so easy, but I mean it's a start.

The emasculation/denigration of AMs and the objectification/sexualization of AFs goes hand in hand.

Early this morning, there was this radio talkshow host that had a couple of representatives from an Asian American group that has been protesting to CBS (I think) about JV.
The Asian advocates were aware of NY being the wife of JV, but didn't want to make her the focus. She was secondary to their concerns about JV and the parent company he worked for.
I called in to lend my support to that. I did add, though, that maybe she should be asked how she can stand to live with someone like that.
PS: The talkshow host said that he wasn't aware of the term, get this, chinaman. He didn't discount its affect and history, when the Asian advocate pointed out it's history, though.
I added that what JV and his partner did was just as much a slap in the face as when Asians are confronted with that sort of racism in person (like school yards, etc.). So, to hear it on the radio is just an extension of that.

Natasha Yi is letting herself being used as a shield against racist charges by her husband. JV has a history of anti-Asian racism and poking fun at Asians and for her to defend her husband is a smack in the face to the very community she built her career off of. She is the epitome of a sellout and I would put her in the same camp as Michelle Malkin.

Read the entire thread. There's a link to an email she wrote in response to Asian American protestors, whom she refers to as a "special interest group." Nice little tactic. In the email, she basically used all the predictable rhetoric and talking points you'd expect from a non-asian apologist. And I suspect some of it wasn't even written by her.
And one of the most widely used definitions of "whore" is someone who "sells out" or abandons principles for personal gain. In Natasha's case, the use of "whore" is accurate. She's "whoring" herself out in favor of her husband and the white majority, and readily making herself a pawn for those who downplay racism.

Funny how you made THIS issue into a simple case where asian men are whining about our women betraying them.
My post was to explain why some of us denounce her actions towards protestors, because some here still don't see why she's a "whore." I really don't care that she's not dating an asian guy.
The issue is people in our own community who shamelessly undermine our efforts for change. This I think is a REAL problem. The "sellout women" problem is one that has been taken into the forefront and blown out of proportion by internet forums and stupid quirky videos titled "Yellow Fever." Hence, some asian guys quickly rush into any thread wherein an Asian woman is referred to as a sellout to call out whiners and make certain that people see them as more "indifferent" or "thick skinned," and hopefully, more attractive, than the crybabies.

My post was to explain why some of us denounce her actions towards protestors, because some here still don't see why she's a "whore." I really don't care that she's not dating an asian guy. This accomplishes what? You have no personal connection to her. Her life decisions effecting you so much that you feel a need to call her a whore and then defend calling her a whore, makes you look like a bitter whiner.
The issue is people in our own community who shamelessly undermine our efforts for change. This I think is a REAL problem. What efforts to change exactly? A handful of asian women's choices in life, who have no relation to you besides race throw a wrench into all the efforts of the Asian American community? Pretty sad the "movement" is so frail. If indeed this is the case, it's only because people like yourself let it effect anything.
Hence, some asian guys quickly rush into any thread wherein an Asian woman is referred to as a sellout to call out whiners and make certain that people see them as more "indifferent" or "thick skinned," and hopefully, more attractive, than the crybabies. It's about being a grown ass man, I could give two shit's how attractive I seem on an internet board. I'm such an asshole at times I've probably done more repulsing than anything.
Here's a point. Throughout the past few years, being here and popping in from time to time on boards like modelminority, all it looks like is bitching, and at first accomplishing nothing. I start to realize that the bitching has come to accomplishing something, overshadowing real issues and stunting real progress.
I swear Asian American Indie films which probably have the most positive portrayals for asian male roles get less word of mouth press on Asian American sites then some "sellout asian" actress is now dating "some white asiaphile asshole", or some onscreen af/wm fuckin'. This often brings to light films I might have not even heard about. Kudo's to those guys for promoting those films.

so she's a whore for defending her husband against a bunch

and why are you assuming that whatever she says in public is

CALL TO ACTION:
Recently, CBS twice aired a racist radio segment on radio.
JV & Elvis on "the Doghouse" taunted Chinese restaurant employees,
including calling Chinese food "flied lice" and "old dung" and ending with
"Tell that hot Asian girl answering the telephone, I'd like to tap her ass."
What an insult! Right after Don Imus was fired for insulting the African
American community, why does CBS think it is ok to insult Asian Americans?

This accomplishes what? You have no personal connection to her. Her life decisions effecting you so much that you feel a need to call her a whore and then defend calling her a whore, makes you look like a bitter whiner.
She doesn't have to be a ex-girlfriend in order for me to have an opinion on her actions which DOES have a negative effect on the Asian community. Not sure where you were going with the "personal connection" thing. Her "life decisions" (specifically, the decision to defend her husband and put down protesters, NOTHING ELSE) does affect me to the extent that I need to call her a whore and then defend my whore calling. However, calling someone a whore doesn't take much effort, if that gives you a better picture of how much it ACTUALLY affects my day to day life
As to what it accomplishes...it's to explain my position to some here who disagree. As you've seen, I haven't made a dozen unprovoked posts simply screaming "off with her head." I tried to provide a link to a despicable email of hers and was surprised that some here actually defend her regardless. But in the greater scheme of things, it accomplishes nothing. But since I'm rather new, please answer this and I'll take it into consideration if I ever post again. What is this forum section titled "rant" made for and what is it supposed to accomplish?
What efforts to change exactly? A handful of asian women's choices in life, who have no relation to you besides race throw a wrench into all the efforts of the Asian American community? Pretty sad the "movement" is so frail. If indeed this is the case, it's only because people like yourself let it effect anything.
Again, you're so engrossed in the idea that asian men who complain about her do so for the mere fact that she married a caucasian man. That is the "choices in life" you were referring to, right?
Please tell me you've actually read the email.
I don't LET it affect anything, because I CAN'T. I don't get to decide the effects of her public opinion regarding the segment and of her husband's actions, because I cannot control the predictable reactions of the American public and the supporters of the shock jocks, who use her opinion as a member of the Asian community in order to strengthen their ill-conceived "cause" and to divert OUR cause.
I don't think the general opinions in Internet forums are an accurate reflection of reality. Most Asian Americans are apathetic. THAT stunts progress, not the endless rants of a subset of the community who frequent modelminority and other forums.

so she's a whore for defending her husband against a bunch
of asians who is of no importance to her, her life or the
success of her marriage. why is she a whore for defending her
family?
and why are you assuming that whatever she says in public is
a reflection of her private life?
it goes both ways. she might be defending her husband in public
but we don't know what's going on at home.
or she can be speaking out against her husband in public but
giving him the thumbs up at home.
like, really. who really cares that she's defending her husband, of all
people. attack him, not the woman he's married to.
natasha yi=giant whore?
i don't see what's shocking about a woman defending her husband,
is what i'm saying. i guess no man ever stood up for you. ever.
Wow, that last line is really pathetic.
I'm tired. Hear it from someone more articulate than myself then (sorry, can't post link yet).
An Open Letter to Mrs. JV and Those Two Asian Girls on “The View”
Dear Natasha Yi (aka Mrs. JV of the JV & Elvis radio show) and Those Two Asian Girls on “The View”:
Shut up. Seriously.
I know that community-building is all about building a consensus amongst diverse opinions and fostering pride amongst individuals based on common interests and working towards a common good and blahiddity-blah-blah-blah. But why do I sometimes feel like I’m speaking to a brick wall? Why do I sometimes feel that I’m trying to uplift those who simply want to be kept (kept down, kept oppressed, or just plain well-kept)? Why do I feel like I’m working towards improving the lives of those who actually prefer their place inferior to their White “benefactors”?
When Rosie O’Donnell made her non-apology about her “ching chong” jokes earlier this year, Asian Americans were elated for about 15 seconds as Rosie cited her hairdresser in helping her to understand the pain of such “humour”. And then you had to ruin it. 15 seconds of exposing the pain of racist humour and then the camera panned to you, Two Asian Girls, nodding and laughing like chimpanzees, delighted that your keepers had tossed you a banana. You excused Rosie’s bigoted remarks, countered her sophomoric attempts at humour, and facilitated her non-apology. Indeed, by your vapid grins, you invited further jokes of that nature; you declared to the instigators of this offense that our community not only forgave racist humour at our expense, but indeed crave it. In 15 seconds, you undid weeks of Asian American activism.
And then there was the “shrimp. flied. lice.” incident of last week. You’d think that after African American groups achieved the dismissal of Don Imus, Asian American groups would have at least determined the possible influence of grassroots race activism. When JV & Elvis’ Dog House radio show re-aired a segment so chock full of anti-Asian statements I hardly know where to begin, we should have been almost unanimously behind their dismissal.
But that’s where you come in, Mrs. JV.
Fallout Central wrote you a letter requesting an explanation as to what you planned on doing about Mr. JV’s apparent ignorance of Asian Americana. I consider it a fair question; after all, we assume that what he says on air would be a reflection of what he thinks about off air. At the dinner table, do you chide him for his perpetual slurring of r’s and l’s. Do you set the record straight when he bolsters his own faltering manhood with references to the “rice pickles” and “tiny egg rolls” of your Asian brothers? Have you sought counseling for this man, who disrespects your race and ethnicity so much so that he feels comfortable in deriding it repeatedly to thousands of listeners?

subject Re: Your husband’s anti-Asian antics
These ’special interest groups’ do not represent all of us. They are twisting the story and making it look like JV is a racist and has hatred toward Asians. This is so ridiculous! The prank call was a joke. The actual call to the Chinese restaurant was nice and pleasant. He split the track and added a computer voice with over the top Asian jokes. If the person or people that have headed this lynch mob campaign against JV and the Doghouse, they would’ve known this. Again, I want to state that no mean call was ever made to the Chinese
restaurant. It was a very respectful call and the humor was added later with a computer voice.
They poke fun at everyone and all races! It was a joke. The media has never once mentioned how much he’s helped the Asian community. He was a voice for Asians when no one else cared, he’s given out of his own pocket so much money to battered Asian women, he’s helped out the Asian community in so many ways. They never mentioned any of that. It’s interesting that they failed to mention that his producer of 10 years, Lance Otani aka Hollywood, was the one that came up with the idea for this bit. Out of JV’s 15 years in radio, he has had producers, phone answerers, and guest bookers that are of Asian decent almost the entire time. These Asian Americans were a constant part of
creating the programming.
They are targeting JV and The Doghouse because of the whole Imus thing. These interest groups are taking away our freedom of speech and taking away one of the most important gifts we have in life…humor. These ‘groups’ are the ones that are racist and hateful! I’m getting all these threatening emails saying that they wish me dead, would like to piss on me, that they wish Cho would have shot me instead of the Virginia Tech students, and I am a disgrace,
whitewashed wanna-be. Real nice, huh? What the heck did I do?? The media is taking one side because it’s the media. I WOULD NEVER ASSOCIATE MYSELF WITH SOMEONE THAT IS RACIST! I’m all about empowering the Asian community. But if we can’t poke fun of ourselves than we’re taking life way to serious. My guess is 99.9% of the world has made a joke about someone because of his or her differences. Does that make them a racist or a person of hate?
JV turned his radio show into an all spiritual show for a year, a few years back. His two main points were to have love for all people but don’t take life too serious. You have to be able to laugh at our subtle differences. He is a comedian for god sake! And all of his listeners know that. Should Bobby Lee (an Asian American) from Mad TV be targeted? Should we also demand the head of Dave Chappelle? Should Carlos Mencia be silenced?
Should we eliminate all comedy including movies and television when they do racial humor? Some people would like that. Some people like when others are poked fun at, but when there are jokes about their own ethnicity they lose it. I see those as shallow people. Again, JV is a multi dimensional person. His friends are of all colors. His causes have helped people of all color. But it would be racist to eliminate certain groups from his comedy. His comedy is not hateful. He pokes fun in a playful manner to bring a smile to people’s faces….not to divide us and discriminate us as human beings. These ‘interest groups’ need to find out people for who they are before passing judgment or joining lynch mobs that don’t have a clue as to who they’re attacking.
This lady that is the president of this Asian American group has no clue what she’s talking about and I am embarrassed as an Asian American that she says she represents us.
Natasha
-------------------------------------------
Wow.
Now, I’m going to be respectful as I write this. I’m not going to take the easy yet morally ambiguous route of picking apart your grammar, mocking your belief that TYPING LIKE THIS ENSURES INCREASED CREDIBILITY, questioning your general literacy or the quality of your childhood education, or wondering whether someone whose on-screen appearances consist almost exclusively of being a showgirl on The Price is Right can, in good conscience, be considered an “actress”. However, your words do demand a response.
First of all, it doesn’t matter what the original call was like. Whether the pranksters were polite in speaking to the restauranteurs is irrelevant. The concern here is not about being rude to a Chinese entrepreuner; the concern is about the segment that was aired (twice). That segment was rude, racist, and sophomoric. It promoted and perpetuated anti-Asian humour that emphasized misogyny, buffoonish caricatures of Asian culture, and the emasculation of Asian males: all stereotypes that have hurt and oppressed APIA men and women throughout American history.
Second, I do not care if your husband has given money to battered Asian women. This is neither documented in the public eye, nor relevant to this particular situation. You cannot purchase the right to dehumanize another group of people; no amount of philanthropy justifies bigotry. The karmic scales do not balance out in the end; those who your husband offended will not have his racism erased by a small pile of chump change. And besides, it seems to me that your family might do better to save your money: it’s sad to see that you don’t seem to be able to afford clothing. I’m about to start a donation drive on your behalf.
Similarly, I don’t know you and I don’t know JV — so arguments that you would never associate yourself with someone who is racist or that JV has multicultural groups of friends bore me. Again, this is an irrelevant argument: those who surround themselves with a diverse group of people can be just as racist and prejudicial as those who self-segregate. The problem is a lack of respect for people who are different, a belief that one is so privileged that they neither need to concern themselves with treating another person with dignity nor can actually hurt or offend them, and a security that they will never have to face consequences for their actions. Some of the most racist people I have met, for example, are involved in interracial relationships.
As far as racial comedy is concerned, I would be just as happy to see folks not engage in race-baiting for the sake of a laugh. Sure, there are some who can do it well, but they are few and far between those who participate in one-dimensional stereotyping for attention. The punchline of racial humour is always the difference and inferiority of a person of colour — tell me why minorities should stand for that.
Of course, censorship is not the course of action. You’re right: Mr. JV should have the right to say all the racist, fucked-up things he would like. And I have the right to petition CBS to see that he and his pal’s employment are terminated. Freedom of speech does not imply freedom from consequences.
But the true task at hand is your statement that you are all for “empowering the Asian community”. Well then tell me, Mrs. JV, what have you said or done lately that has helped to empower our community? Is it your role as “Club Girl” in Cradle 2 Tha Grave, “Body Double” in Scorpion King, or “Sorority Girl” in VIP? Is it your appearances in calendars with titles including ”Island Eyes”, “East West”, “Women of the East” and “Mystique Magazine”? Do you have a “Community Activism and Awareness” section in that provocative “Access VIP!” section of your website? (Only $19.99 per month!)
Truly, Mrs. JV, if you are interested in Asian empowerment, than why do none of your press releases or contact links include information about issues like Edward Said’s Orientalism, the Model Minority Myth, domestic violence, alcoholism, mental disease, the glass ceiling, Asian fetishism, or feminism as it relates to our community? Why have I not seen you at the political press junkets, the conferences, or even blogging about issues of Asian empowerment? Hell, even a link to some choice political APIA voices from your site might give you some credibility in making that statement.
Hell, if you don’t want to do that, you can help the cause by doing, quite literally, the least you can do: not sabotaging it.
But ultimately, Mrs. JV and Those Two Asian Girls, it is women like you who give women like me a bad name. You facilitate and excuse anti-Asian racism and anti-female sexism. You facilitate bigotry, prejudice and ignorance because of your apathy, narcissism, hubris and ambition. As an Asian American, you embarass me. As a woman, you embarass me.
You may not feel that “that lady that is the president of that Asian American group” represents you, but you’re not much of an alternative.
Sincerely,
Jenn

To applehead,
In case you're only criticizing me because you can't help but see sexist overtones in this thread. Many asian male bloggers and contributers to the DogHouse forum in support of the shock jocks, and the Asian male writer, who, according to Natasha Yi, was responsible for the sketch, are in my opinion, "whores" too.

yes, it must be mentioned that Lance Otami is a BITCH ASS SCAB
F him
after hearing the radio segment again, god damn, JV must have some sorta white man imperialist racially exoticized "gonna conquer your women"mentality towards asians with his "small egg roll" in your pants comment to that chinese restaurant worker.
i'm sure in his mind asian men can't satisfy their women anyways, so no wonder asian women want white men so much. I guess white men are just racially dominant and more masculine, and those frisky exotic geishas are just begging for a white guy. ain't that how he bagged Natasha Yi?

Well, I think you are right that Yi's response is a different matter than the usual AM vs. AF tirade. It's just that the thread was never about the segment or her apologist response, just about the fact that she's married to JV. Can't really blame Big Lew for reacting to the knee jerk reactors.

Nope,
"Why don't Asian girls date ASian guys" and "why do you see more AF/WM couples than AM/WF couples?" are quite different from "why do some Asian Americans make it a point to publicly approve racism against Asians, thus diverting progress in activism."
You are completely right. The issue is because she is defending a racist. Her action makes it harder for the AA community as a whole to condemn the racism. Her gender is irrelevant, as I have been saying.
Unfortunately, because she's Korean chick with big fake knockers married to a racist white guy, it got largely side tracked by people who turns it into another one of those annoying WM/AF whine feast.
But, just because it got side tracked, doesn't mean the original problem just disappeared, she is still a sellout and counter productive to efforts to eliminate racism by defending him.
Nope,
"Why don't Asian girls date ASian guys" and "why do you see more AF/WM couples than AM/WF couples?" are quite different from "why do some Asian Americans make it a point to publicly approve racism against Asians, thus diverting progress in activism."
Again, you're so engrossed in the idea that asian men who complain about her do so for the mere fact that she married a caucasian man. That is the "choices in life" you were referring to, right?
I don't LET it affect anything, because I CAN'T. I don't get to decide the effects of her public opinion regarding the segment and of her husband's actions, because I cannot control the predictable reactions of the American public and the supporters of the shock jocks, who use her opinion as a member of the Asian community in order to strengthen their ill-conceived "cause" and to divert OUR cause.
mzh - while I wouldn't have called Yi a whore (either for marrying a WM or for publicly defending his actions), she definitely does deserve criticism from the Asian-American community b/c her public defense of her husband (and that of other like defenses) gives legitimacy for those who argue that Asians (seemingly, as the exception for minority groups) should just "lighten up" and for the continued use of Asians (and AMs in particular) as a source of stereotypical "humor" (which, btw, has been done for the umpteenth time - at the very least, couldn't they have at least put a different twist to the same old lame "jokes").
Now, I'm not necessarily against the use of humor revolving around (negative) stereotypes AS LONG as there are positive or alternative portrayals to help offset the continued reinforcement of these stereotypes - however, we are far from this stage (and until alternative imagery becomes more common in mass media, the only real option is to stop the continued perpetuation of the negative stereotypes).
Big Lewser is so hyped up on his deluded, self-importance (where he bashes anyone who talks seriously about these issues - which is vastly different from "whiny, Asian males" who complain about not being able to get a date, etc. - and carelessly accuses those who partake in a serious discussion of being the "typical Asian male loser") - that he, unbeknownst to him (due to his addled mental function) is doing exactly what he accuses others of doing.
I don't think the general opinions in Internet forums are an accurate reflection of reality. Most Asian Americans are apathetic. THAT stunts progress, not the endless rants of a subset of the community who frequent modelminority and other forums.
Comparing the debates here to those at mm (which is off the deep-end) is sheer folly (and if anyone has contributed to the "mindless rant/insults" style of postings as is commonly found on mm, it's BL - how ironic!).
Hey "genius" - AA indie films appeal to a very small audience (and that's a small audience within the Asian-American community).
How the majority of Asian-Americans and rest of America view themselves/Asians is shaped by the mass media and not indie films (much less Asian-American indie films).
I'm not saying that AA indie films shouldn't be supported, but such films don't reach the audience that needs to be reached.
---------------
As a total aside - I have to say that Yi has horrible taste in WMs.
Not to be totally superficial, but couldn't she have picked a more handsome WM as a lifepartner? Damn, her husband is FUUUGLY!!!

You people here are just sick. First of all, there is a sticky in this forum that asks for "no personal attacks" and "friendly and intelligent conversations" and then you guy entitling a thread "natashi yi = giant whore" and then writing 6 pages of insults. Are you kidding me? You are claiming JV & Elvis are hateful for making a prank call that anyone can see is comedy and then you guys go tearing Natasha apart calling her names like "scab" and "whore". YOU people are the haters and racists. Why does race have to be so important to you, who cares if she married a white guy, what does his race matter to her? Nothing, just like her race mattered nothing to him either. Anti interracial marriage is racist. Yet HE is the racist and hater right?
You guys are so retarded if you think that prank was hateful. You know it wasn't. Are you gonna say you never laughed at a joke that involved race? I guarantee you have all laughed at racial jokes before, asian, black, jewish or whatever. And notice the term "racial joke" not "racist joke". A racial joke involves race but a racist joke conveys hate. Have you ever laughed at a joke about a fat person? a short person? tall person? a dumb person? I guarantee you have all laughed at at least on of those in your lifetime, there is no doubt about it. Does that mean you hate those kind of people if you laugh or make jokes about them? NO!
I don't even think you guys know the meaning of hate. As a man of middle-eastern descent I know the difference between hate and comedy. With all this crap going on in the middle east, middle easterners are the butt of every joke now. Any comedy show that comments on current events will make middle-eastern jokes. I hear it non stop. Do you see me complaining? NO. Why? Because I am not retarded like you guys and I can tell the difference between comedy and hate. I experience hate first hand often. When was the last time one of you actually experience hate in your life face to face with someone? And I mean real hate, not someone telling a joke or lightly bringing up a stereo type. I am talking about true hate. The kind of hate you guys have for non asians because you are all sick racist bastards.
So you guys turn on any asians that show support for The Dog House and call them sellouts and scabs. I bet you guys still supported Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia tech shooter still though. I guess he did you guys a favor and helped take out some of the racists(because according to you guys, all white people are racist).
STOP LOOKING AT PEOPLE ON THE OUTSIDE AND START LOOKING AT THEM ON THE INSIDE! RACE MEANS NOTHING. YOU GUYS ARE THE REAL RACISTS FOR GOING ALONG WITH OLD TRADITION AND SEPARATING PEOPLE BY THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN
HYPOCRITES ARE WHAT YOU ARE!
You call her a giant whore. Why? I find that more hateful, sexist and direct then what JV and Elvis did. They are a comedy show. They make fun of every race, color, gender, even themselves. As to what Mr. Lick said they didn't make a mistake! They were doing what they do everyday. You don’t like it turn it off. IM sure if I so to an all Asian channel and listen or a channel that has an Asian DJ 1 day eventually he’s going to make an Irish joke. Will I get pissed off and call for him to get fired? No, I got thicker skin then that. Would I go crying to politicians? Defiantly not. I would laugh and probably admit that there is some truth to the joke or prank call. Like there probably was in JV and Elvis's prank call. I think yall should stop talking shit about people you don’t even know. JV has done so much for people in need in the past. He swam from Alcatraz to show despite people telling him its way to dangerous to raise money for a kid with cancer. He also ran across the golden gate bridge naked to raise money for someone else. These people that you have taken off the air because you can’t take a joke are known and loved by many people around the county. They have helped many people around the county. JV's wife is 1 of the kindest people I have met in my time and you bash her. We all know it because you are jealous of her. You either wish you looked that good or that you wife or girlfriend looked that good. Don’t let jealousy or a stupid joke influence you feelings for a grate talk show. I bet that’s the only thing you ever heard from the DOG HOUSE and that’s y you are mad. I bet you would never of heard the joke if it wasn’t brought to you attention. I think all of you should grow up and get over yourselves. If you want to argue this anymore please stop by our forums you are more then welcome to come there and say what ever you like. We will not ban you, criticism is welcome. takinabreak.com/doghouseforums/index.php

yeah i agree, being a comedy show, they should be allowed to be racist and sexist.
Yes, let asians take over mainstream media and subject white people to decades of anti white propaganda (with all the matching history of crimes to go with it), the mighty white men will show us asians how to take a joke and how to have thicker skin.
It's surprising that people resort to name calling when Natasha defends the person who's being racist and sexist to her and everyone else who resembles her.
It's surprising that white people think they know what should be offensive to groups they don't belong to...

Alright, this has greatly devolved. I'm going to do a couple of things here.
One, change the title so a woman is not called whore. Two, less calling of women whores in this thread. If you want to take on Natashi Yi, do so as a critique as Jenn (aka moderator kitty around here) did in her open letter. Third, well maybe third I don't know yet but it's probably going to involve hurt feelings and pushing some of the lesser used moderator buttons on my screen.

One comment on the latest to post who are most likely white and know Natashi Yi or are that show's fans, I'm purposely letting those stand. This subject could have been handled differently by original posters, concentrating on attacking the racist segment aired on the show and yes, questioned an AA involved no matter how tangentially but it could have or should have been done without first calling her out by a sexual slur.
So, for now, they stand. Try not to rise to it too much if you want to have more of an internal dialogue amongst AAs about the segment and its affects. As you can see one of our one-hit wonder posters already brought in the tragedy of the VTech killings. Damned sick to do so but when you're desperate and willing to sink to likening by race like that.
Let’s not make this a raciest thing. Let’s look at it for what it is. A prank call. That’s it. Look at their website doghousefans.com there are many prank calls. Most of the prank calls are to other white people. Basically what you are saying is it is o.k. to prank call people of your own race but when you prank call an Asian or an African American or a blue man from mars you can't push the boundaries or your being a raciest and should be fired. Come on wake up. What you are all doing by calling for them to be fired is in fact further dividing us. You are encouraging more hate. Like I said before if the prank call wasn’t brought to your attention it would never have been a big deal. You obviously don't listen to the show or get the shows humor. That’s great I respect that, but I listen to the show and I get their humor and now I won’t be able to listen to the show because some stupid prank call was blown out of proportion. Now I may have a little mixed feeling toward Asian Americans because SOME of them can’t take jokes. And I’m sure SOME asain American are gonna look at SOME white people differently now. All this whole thing did as I said before was further divide us. That’s not what we need. You don't like the show don’t listen. me personally I don’t like HOT 97 I don’t like some of the stuff they talk about on there shows I think they push the lines allot but I don’t bring it to politicians attention I turn the channel I don’t listen to it. Why can’t you do the same?

I hope you read my post with an open mind. I see that the phone prank call has clouded some of your judgment since you’re still fuming with anger.
I hope all of you have listened to the audio rather than just going by what others have said. Also, may I suggest doing research before you make any drastic decision or judgments. I have read the first post and might I add that the truth was skewed. “repeatedly curses at several employees” … the caller only spoke to two people. By saying several that’s just exaggerating the prank phone call to make it sound worse than it really is.
Not sure if you all knew of this but the prank phone call was made 7 years ago. It’s not a new call. Plus, the caller was made by an Asian American. The only thing that JV did was replace the caller’s voice with a computerize voice. Within those 7 years no riots were caused against Asian Americans, no rampage, no burning of houses, no lynching, or anything of that sort. I would have understood if that audio did such thing, that would be a problem, but it did none of the above.
For example, “In 1995, Sharpton led a protest in Harlem against the plans of Freddy's Fashion Mart, a Jewish-owned clothing store, to expand into a black neighborhood. Sharpton told the protesters, "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Three months later, an armed protester forcibly entered the store and burned it down, killing himself and seven others.” I remember watching this on the news as well. The Dog House never caused anything like that.
I am a listener of the Dog House and I am confident to say that they didn’t mean any harm by it. I listened to the audio a couple of times and not once have I heard a racial slur. Unless, the racial slurs are “Asian lady”, “Chinese man”, and “hot Asian spicy Ass”. I think the words you are mad at wouldn’t be so much racist. “Spicy ass”, is not racist. There are foods that are spicy, such as Mexican food and Indian food. I don’t recall the two employees on the phone sounding offended. The guy laughed in the audio when the caller mentioned Kung Fu. If the guy had a problem with it he would have simply hung up the phone.
The problem I had with the first post is your judgment on NatashiYi who’s an innocent bystander. Why would you pass judgment on a woman simply because she’s married to JV? She didn’t make the prank call and therefore JV’s private life should remain private. Not sure if you have noticed but some of you have become what you hate. Some of you quickly judge NatashaYi because of her line of work. Do you know her personally? Unless, you have met her, you shouldn’t say mean things just because she doesn’t agree with you. I have met NatashaYi myself and she’s a very sweet person. So please do not call her a whore just because you do not agree with her opinion and her line of work. Hitler was a man who never did drugs and was faithful to his wife but look what he ended up doing. So please, again, don’t judge a book by its cover.
“We would be in no position to judge unless we had lived sinless lives. Still, we humans tend to prefer applying ethics to other people rather than ourselves. We rationalize away our guilt but not that of others and our double standard itself renders our own behavior inexcusable.”
No matter what, someone will always be offended by something whether it may be in politics, religious beliefs, race, television and etc. It is inevitable. It is also impossible to make everyone happy. You would live an unhappy life if you tried to make everyone happy. I’m sure your way of humor may be offensive to someone. It happens. The same way not all Asian Americans agree with what’s happening with JV and Elvis (and defends JV and Elvis) but unfortunately their views are being ignored. That’s not correct. We should hear both sides equally. To request for their firing it’s going out of line.
I’m sure you’ve heard this many times. Just simply change the radio station. I’m sure many of you have never heard of JV and Elvis until this whole thing came up. You are deciding for others and telling us what we can and cannot listen to. To many, JV and Elvis make us laugh and make our day a better one. I spoke to a man who’s Italian and is offended by The Sopranos but his brother loves the show. So, all he does is change the channel and let others enjoy it, instead of quickly trying to take the show away. He respects others opinion even though he may not agree with it. Plus, he understands not everyone thinks the same.
I’m only speaking to you in peace and giving you my opinion. Trust me when I say I understand because I’m a female Hispanic and we don’t have a strong voice to defend us. A lot of stereotypes people (especially the media) have on Hispanic women are slutty home wreckers that have a lot of babies. Trust me, there are comedians that makes fun of us, our music, our accent, etc. But we laugh it off. We know who we are and what we are not. Not all of fall into the stereotype and the reality is that there are a few that do.
Take care!

Let’s not make this a raciest thing. Let’s look at it for what it is. A prank call. That’s it. Look at their website doghousefans.com there are many prank calls. Most of the prank calls are to other white people. Basically what you are saying is it is o.k. to prank call people of your own race but when you prank call an Asian or an African American or a blue man from mars you can't push the boundaries or your being a raciest and should be fired.
yes.
the only reason they don't regularly prank call black people and make similar jokes as they did toward Asian people is because they know the black community is more powerful in the context of social activism and they'd get into more trouble. it's not that they make fun of everybody, it's that they say and do things they think they can get away with.
Come on wake up. What you are all doing by calling for them to be fired is in fact further dividing us. You are encouraging more hate.
no, that's what they've done. if nothing is done about them, their listeners will think it's all just jokes and fun to prank call Asian people and make racist jokes. should people wait till they're saying chink this and chinaman that and laughing it off as a joke before we stand up and make a statement to say that it is not OK? there's a difference between acceptable speech and racist speech. the first amendment will let them say what they want, and that's great. but people also have a right to demand their boss to take action against them, and any repercussions they garner from their actions is only a testament that there're a number of people out there who do not think what they did was acceptable, because nothing would happen to them if it was just a few armchair activists sitting at home and complaining.
Like I said before if the prank call wasn’t brought to your attention it would never have been a big deal. You obviously don't listen to the show or get the shows humor. That’s great I respect that, but I listen to the show and I get their humor and now I won’t be able to listen to the show because some stupid prank call was blown out of proportion.
good, i hope they get fired, too. it's the 21st century. people need to know it's not OK to make fun of Asian people for their stereotypes and the way they talk.
Now I may have a little mixed feeling toward Asian Americans because SOME of them can’t take jokes. And I’m sure SOME asain American are gonna look at SOME white people differently now.
as long as you know it's not OK to make fun of Asian people, i don't care what you think of us. and i'm pretty confident in saying that most Asian Americans won't look at white people differently - we already know that a lot of you think it's funny to make racist Asian jokes.
Why can’t you do the same?
because they're dumbasses, and dumbasses must be stopped.

Looks like there's a good possibility that the show will be canned. Fanatics are getting nervous.
Here's a tip: Never say "don't judge a book by its cover." It immediately exposes you as someone who's never had a genuine dialogue about race.

Do I care if you post my picture? No. What will happen if you do? A bunch of Asian Americans are going to rip on me? Is that what you’re saying???? And how is that different then what JV and Elvis did? If you ask me it's worse because it is more blatantly direct to point out 1 person and rip on them. Not like the Dog House did by calling some Chinese Restaurant in the middle of no where that has no idea what the results of the call was and probably don’t give a damn because they know it was a JOKE.
By the way the Dog House was on the bay areas version of Hot 97 and don’t have a problem making fun of African Americans. Nor do they have a problem making fun of any other race like I stated before. They make fun and use Irish stereotypes all the time but I don't get pissed off about it. I bet that every single person in here has used another races/cultures stereotypes in a joke before. The only reason it should affect you is if the stereotype really reflects yourself. Maybe just maybe your tired of hearing you suck at driving but deep down inside you know you really do and thats why your mad at the prank call. Come on you are all being way to serious.
As for you not being able to access the forums or join them for that matter try again you must be doing somthing wrong. I’m just a fan of the show nothing more. I’m a fan of talk radio and I don’t want to see it go away. But if people like you keep up what you are doing there will be no more talk radio because no one will want to say anything because they will be afraid no matter what they say it will offend some1. It is truly sad to see that this it was radio is coming to.

and really ironic of irish mcdrunk to lament the state of "radio". have you listened to the old radio programs from the 30s and 40s? now THAT was entertainment. there was no tv or internet. nowadays, we have all kinds of crap shoved in our faces: tv, internet, radio. it's just really tiring to hear and see RACIST garbage all over the place. and you know what? i make no apologies for calling you irish mcdrunk because you came into our forum blasting us and the gloves are off. boundaries have been crossed.

That’s cool about Stern. He has made fun of Asians before why is it o.k. for him to do it but not the Dog House. i really don't give a shit that he made fun of asians. i think the only funny jokes are the ones that are racist and sexist. i just like kicking motherfuckers when they're down.
however, you seem to not realize when it comes this genre of "shock radio" there's always gonna be critics and the fact that you're defending dog house so bad makes you have a stick so far up your ass just like those that are criticizing him.
stop fellating JV and Elvis and just accept the fact that there will always be critics in this genre of entertainment and that the fact that these two guys dug their own holes and has to deal with the reprecussions. these guys with the possible exception of stern are a dime a dozen anyways.
they of all people should know that if they're gonna dish it, you damn well better be ready to take it. taking it also means any backlash and any reprecussions that may come of it.

I used to listen to Stern a lot years ago. And I have to say I have never heard anybody degrade themselves as much as he does. He is always pointing out every negative thing about himself now and when he was younger.
He's definitely in a league of his own. Then again so is Phil Hendrie who is a kind of genius.
But like Stern always said radio is the lowest rung on show biz. Most radio guys are completely talentless and incredibly ugly on the outside and the inside.

If they came out and said "you know what? Yeah we made stereotypical jokes about asians. yeah we made racist-sounding comments. yeah we had bad taste. but we thought it was funny, and our listeners thought it was funny, so we're sorry we if someone was offended, but that's what we do" I'd be like "ok, fine, I respect that, I don't like it, but I respect it."
Instead, they try the bullshit "you don't have a sense of humor" line, or the "my wife is asian, I can't be racist" line, or the "we had an asian make the call so we can't be racist plus we have lots of asian friends!" line. All of those are just weak excuses for backpedeling jackasses who can't take the heat.

Yes or no question ... Are you a long time listener of the Dog House?
Actually, they have done various prank phone call and they were not only to Asian Americans. Also to African Americans, Spanish, and other races. They call companies as well. Basically, what I’m saying is that they don't single any one out. Just as stand up comedians makes fun of everyone, JV and Elvis do the same.
They also make fun of themselves. There are also callers who make fun of JV and Elvis. The guys laugh and just go along with the caller. They know they are not perfect and make fun of each other.
Someone also mentioned something about wanting them to make an apology. On Monday, before they went for suspension, JV apologized. He apologized in the beginning of the show and he also apologized before they signed off.
Not sure if you all knew of this but the prank phone call was made 7 years ago. It’s not a new call. Plus, the caller was made by an Asian American. The only thing that JV did was replace the caller’s voice with a computerize voice. Within those 7 years nothing has escalated into riots, rampage, burning of houses, lynching, or anything of that sort.

JV and Elvis have not been charged with any crimes, and they could stand in the middle of Time Square and yell "nigger" and they would not be charged with any crimes. their free speech is indeed protected. what's happened here is that CBS paid them money to do what they do, so it could make a profit with their show. and CBS has decided that for the time being, it would hurt its image more than the profit is worth.

a couple of points:
I listen to JV and Elvis at work, and the are absolutely the most entertaining show on the radio. I am also asian, but thats besides the point.
I havent gone through all the replies, frankly there are too many, but i havent seen any body stick up for the show, so i will try and give my 2 cents. Most in this forum probably doesnt care, but i would like to shed a new prospective any how.
1) Being a minority, you can tell when somebody when somebody's comments are racist, if they are truely ignorant, or if its just in good spirited ribbing. Now JV and Elvis prank call was a mixture of ignorance and good spirited ribbing. I've listened to them long enough to know that JV and elvis are good people and are only joking.
2) Yes I can understand that its still some what racist comments, however this is more a reflection of society. People will joke around, and continue sterotypes indefinitely until the sterotypes are no longer true. That is a fact of life. Just because you complain and want to get a radio program fired, doesnt mean it will solve or even help remotely solve societies racial problems. JV and Elvis were suspended, to me that was more than fair and it serve as notice for them and the rest of the world.
3) The anger in this thread is misguided. Yes the prank call deserves all the anger, however, the radio program doesnt deserve nearly as much if you truely believe that in their hearts they are good people. People make mistakes, and this was that.
Doghouse. WHAT?

thanks for posting this. i don't necessarily agree with everything that was said in the podcast, but i definitely agree with a lot of it. one thing that sticks in my mind was the point that was made about Sarah Silverman - why was there even a debate about her use of the word "chink"? it's a racial slur. if she had used "nigger", there would be no calls for discussion, just condemnation.

1. That's how you teach people not to do stupid stuff. They do stupid stuff, you punish them. Then the next time they will get smarter. Ignorance is not a defense in court of law. Now they will think twice about making fun of Asians.
2. Bullshit. A few stereotypes may have factual basis, but a lot of them are due to mass media, generalization, or mis-conception. After all, how many Asians actually know Kung fu.
3. I don't know them personally, so I have no idea what kind of people they are. But I do know their action further perpetuate Asian stereotypes, and damage the Asian image at a very large scale. I don’t care if they are Buddha or Jesus in real life. Their action did more damage than them “being nice for a long time” will ever fix.
I doubt you are even Asian, or any other minority, otherwise you would not say shit like this.
a couple of points:

Hey, Sherm. I just noticed you're the first Bay Area forum denizen that dropped a line in the thread, so I'm gonna pass something to ya.
Did ya listen to the Doghouse when it was here?
I forgot why they even got canned in the first place off Wild 94.9, but, admitting that basically means I'm going to Google it later.
As some of the trolls posted before, most of the Doghouse's shtick IS racial/ignorant humor. And I'll admit, I laughed. I thought it was wrong, but I laughed.
Makes me wonder though, I know Wild was drowned with calls when the Dog House was on the air here, but I never heard too many complaint calls. I'm thinking they never got past Hollywood, and the couple that did, were cussed out or ridiculed to the point where either the listener would hang up or they'd hang up on the listener.
Having listened to them for years while they were here (I was young, impressionable, and not allowed to touch my friends' radios for fear of getting smacked in the face for "touching a Chinese man's radio" [Har har, Rush Hour 2.]), it doesn't surprise me that the prank call happened. It was their own stupid fault for doing it so close to Imus' craptastic ending. Whatever. They reap what they sow.

Take care!
What does it matter if he is or isn't? Who can decide what is offensive for a person or a given group?

I nearly fell off my chair when I read that Yi is married, but this to "JV," guy? most disappointing...:frown:
I mean even my sister who isn't a model or anything like has a white-boyfriend who is much better looking, very friendly laid-back dude, and he even personally knows James Kim (pretty fly for a white guy).
As an asian male I don't have a problem with WM/AF relations, I just feel more sorry for Natasha Yi because if she can't find a decent white dude her standards are rather pathetic.

ooh, tim wise talks about this in the chapter "Loss" from White Like Me -- he basically says that the problem isn't that white people aren't mostly decently, but precisely because they are. Being basically decent people allows them to brush off their involvement with race; now jv and elvis aren't white, but I think you can apply this same theory here with an "essentially good nature"

I was a little out of the loop about all this. The link did not work. I finally got to hear the clip on You tube. Who's that behind that computerized voice? Those bozos who call themselves JV and Elvis. Not only is it obviously racist, it is really really really lame, idiotic, annoying, disgusting, to say the least. It's weird why people would take the time to talk to that... The employees of the Chinese restaurant were obviously focusing on getting an order, ignoring whatever the fuck the computerized voice was babbling, without realizing that there exist some people who really have too much time on their hands to make stupid, racist prank calls like this. I can tell from the way the employees answered the phone that their business and their livelihood were really important to them, so important that they were basically just tuning out/ignoring the racist crap that the caller was spewing, while the caller and some listeners were doing nothing productive, wasting time as usual by putting down people and calling it funny. I mean, good comics make fun of themselves, or in some cases, tease others in a good way. Good comics basically laugh with instead of at the target. Bozos make fun of others by putting down other people, laughing at other people's expenses instead of their own. How much simpler can it get? I don't understand why those bozos had to spoil all the fun by not calling more people like us and see how they would be blasted right then and there.

No problem, regardless of whether or not everyone agrees with everything they have to say, they're doing some interesting things over there, applying knowledge to create change. I can respect that.
