Recently, a group of us went out to a restaurant to eat. Upon leaving, one of the young gentlemen held the door open for all the ladies. 8 of us altogether. 6 just walked through, 2 of us said "thank you". As I was one of the thankers, and know the guy for a while, he was talking saying, interesting how only 2 of the 8 said thanks. What gives?
I don't know about other ladies, but do you guys open doors, etc, for women?
If not, you suck. IMO  I'm not kidding.
If so, For all the women out there who take it for granted "Thanks"
Get any thanks?
(BTW - for any of you whiners that can't get AA women, try ^, it works unless they are calous, ungrateful, feminist b's, then who wants them anyways?)

no, the bitch got hands. if she doesn't have hands, whether i open the door for her or not is the least of her problems.

people just generally don't have manners anymore. regardless if it's a man or woman walking through, it's just common courtesy to hold the door open, just as it's common courtesy to show appreciation by either nodding or saying "thanks."
women for some reason have decided to take this for granted SO even though I usually still keep the door open, I will say something if they don't say "thanks." It's just the complete aspect of disrespect that annoys me so I'll allow myself to say something like "ungrateful bitch."

I always opened the door for people, gender non-specific, unless I felt like being a total ass that day, and then I'd be a door opener for women only or lil kids.
Seems being polite and acting like a general dork got the attention of a friend of a friend this weekend. I'm not saying being polite works all the time, but it did this wkend. How long was I supposed to make her wait again? LOL

i think at times some people are too polite to a fault. i have a friend that even though someone will hold the door open, he'll step behind and re-hold the door. it gets annoying because if i'm holding the door open... JUST WALK THE HELL IN. seriously... don't you get it?!?!?!
Augh!!!!

I find that you can hold open a door for a lady 9 out of 10 times, but they'll only remember that one time you don't. I do it to be helpful, not to be a gentleman. Most girls aren't even lady enough to deserve it.

Hahaha. Augh. I do like your friend sometimes when I'm dead tired, and not thinking, it's reactionary for me to reach for the door, even when someone else has it. I know, it's retarded. >_< Just means mom beat those manners into me somehow.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I used to rate this girl in the category of "kicking my ass before I got any ass". As it is, she's definitely more friendly/touchy feely about me, but getting ass is a different story. >_< Whatever.

Can being a gentleman these days be considered a form of Chauvinism?

Can being a gentleman these days be considered a form of Chauvinism?Yes it can. However, if that annoys or irritates you, perhaps you need to look at the people you are voluntarily associating with. Lots of different people with different personalities and beliefs. Personally, I prefer being in an environment where I'm not accused of being a "chauvinist" if I hold the door open out of "common courtesy".

I used to hold the door open for girls....
...then I came to Japan.
Japan stripped me of any sense of being a gentlemen, it raped my sensibilites.
Never again, will I hold open the door for anybody. Even old ladies.
In Japan, the old ladies are the ones that will elbow you aside, or stick an umbrella in your stomach to get you to move out the way.
In Japan, I held the door open for some highschool girls and they just glared at me.
In Japan, people hold the door open *just* enough for them to get through, even if you are 2 steps behind them, slamming the door in your face.
In Japan, I held open a car door for a girl and she looked at me like...

i think it depends on who is on the receiving end of the gentlemanly act.

Nah, this is one of the only times in Japan I didn't feel singled out because of my ethnicitiy(s). (which is good sometimes. see - datable girls (^_~))
It happens to EVERYBODY, Japanese are just plain assholes when it comes down to stuff like that. Don't let that "Everybody is nice and has good manners in Japan" myth fool you.
My Japanese friends/family have similiar stories, and I've seen it happen firsthand to them. Truth be told, I got off easy compared to them. They actually get it worse since they ARE Japanese, they're expected to know not to do that sort of stuff. I've seen a little old lady cut my friend off while he was walking, step on his shoe, she almost tripped, so she glares at him, asks him "WTF ARE YOU DOING?! MOVE OUT THE WAY!!", then hits him with her cane for good measure...before elbowing another teenage guy out the way.
I get some slack for being a foreigner.
Japan scarred me forever, that's why I don't hold open doors anymore.
If anything...the JAPANESE robbed ME of all innocence.

Hmmm.. some of that post reminds me of Hong Kong people too.
Don't even say thanks when you hold the door open for them.
^chinese people just look at you weird if you hold the door open for them. that's why i just let it slam in their faces.

I hold the door most of the time. I think it's common courtesy. But I see that women appreciate it more.
But there are times, I'll make a sharp turn away from the main door and go through that. Now, if some person needs to go through my door still, have at it.

hey it's not like i am on the net to practise my manners.
but unless the person has two hands full, it's better to give them an inch.
nobody cusses me for not holding the door open for them. the appreciative will thank me for doing so.
but i'd do it for my date just to make a good impression.

on a somewhat related note: from my experience, asian women are the least likely to say thank you when i open the door for them. white women are the most likely to say thank you.

Whoa, that's weird.
I was holding the door for the entire fam, and here comes this Asian woman walking through the same door. No thanks from her. :frown:
But I'll chalk it up to her having no ass or personality, first, rather than consider it a pattern.
