First Look at Jet Li in The Mummy!
Source: Rob Cohen
October 23, 2007

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor director Rob Cohen has posted yet another update on the anticipated summer 2008 film, including the first photo of Jet Li (click image below for a hi-res version), word on what was just shot and soundtrack info. Here's a clip:

Today, I shot Jet Li on his black stallion riding into battle in his jade armor. He looked nothing short of an Emperor. He has been totally professional and warm to me and the entire crew, like the prince he truly is.

As to the music: guys, trust me. Randy and I have done two classic scores (DRAGON: THE BRUCE LEE STORY and DRAGONHEART) that continue to be used in trailers and commercials a decade and a half later. This will be an original score with new themes, played by the London Symphony Orchestra recorded at Abbey Road Studios. There will nothing “synth paddy” about it. It will be massive, thematic, and pulsing. I have great respect for Al Silvestri but this is a new, re-booted “Mummy” and it will have the score to match.

I know how this whole Oriental portrayal is going to go down in the movie. But he so looks like he's going to unload some supreme badass and kick his head clear through the next wall in the above pic.

I do I do, I'm letting my passive aggressive nature and frustration at working for 18 days straight (at two different jobs with two different sets of stress inducers) express itself through my angry-Asian man ways, both online and irl. It never used to be this bad. I'm hoping it goes away after May 1st. New job, new co-workers, hopefully better living stuffs. =)

So yeh. I hope he doesn't hook up with one of the "bad" Asian temptresses.

Me either. Screw it then. We should all as APAs set up to boycott this movie for it's 'orientalness' and asiaphiliac overtones in the shitty plot. While the makers of Mortal Kombat is suing the shit out of Universal Pictures over the breaking of copyright infringement laws over the insignas.

My favorite deez nuts was the Scorpion King with the Rock and Kelly Hu. It would have been #1 at the box office if it was'nt for the Star wars movie that also came out that year in 2002.

I remember watching a bootleg version of the movie with some friends stoned on weed and shit. (I don't smoke the stuff nomore.) That movie kicked ass.

I think that was the only movie out of the series I actually liked.

As long as it isn't the crappy Scorpion King CGI (Mummy2), it shouldn't be too bad.
Not Oscar material but should be fun to watch.

Could be Michelle Yeoh

Also in the cast, Russell Wong and Anthony Wong.

Plot:In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick and Alex O'Connell unearth the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin -- a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a wizard centuries ago.

The blockbuster global "Mummy" franchise takes a spellbinding turn as the action shifts to Asia for the next chapter in the adventure series, "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor." Brendan Fraser returns as explorer Rick O'Connell to combat the resurrected Han Emperor (Jet Li) in an epic that races from the catacombs of ancient China high into the frigid Himalayas. Rick is joined in this all-new adventure by son Alex (newcomer Luke Ford), wife Evelyn (Maria Bello) and her brother, Jonathan (John Hannah). And this time, the O'Connells must stop a mummy awoken from a 2,000-year-old curse who threatens to plunge the world into his merciless, unending service.

Doomed by a double-crossing sorceress (Michelle Yeoh) to spend eternity in suspended animation, China's ruthless Dragon Emperor and his 10,000 warriors have laid forgotten for eons, entombed in clay as a vast, silent terra cotta army. But when dashing adventurer Alex O'Connell is tricked into awakening the ruler from eternal slumber, the reckless young archaeologist must seek the help of the only people who know more than he does about taking down the undead: his parents.

As the monarch roars back to life, our heroes find his quest for world domination has only intensified over the millennia. Striding the Far East with unimaginable supernatural powers, the Emperor Mummy will rouse his legion as an unstoppable, otherworldly force...unless the O'Connells can stop him first.

Maria Bello? What happened to Rachel Weisz?

Maria Bello? What happened to Rachel Weisz?

Rachel turned down the role b/c she didn't like the script....

Who could blame her? This film sounds godawful.

And there's definitely a Yellow Peril vibe to the film's script.

Yet she can do Fred Claus no problem. =P

Word is according to the script, O'Connell will be fighting a full-fledged Chinese dragon in this one.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, oh man. Do Chinese dragons even breathe fire? Why do white people always attribute their own dragons on to ours? Not that they aren't cool, it's just white people dragons horde gold, kidnap women, and pillage the village, not to mention have a nasty 10D10 tail attack if you fail a saving throw.

Chinese dragons are good luck or some shit

As much as I hate to keep bitching about the yellow peril aspect, I do find it rather ridiculous that Jet Li's empire is gonna get beat by Brendan Frasier's nervous mugging and a gun

If anything, Chinese Dragons are more attributed to rain and lightning, and no, Chinese Dragons do not have three heads.

This movie is just going to be a kiddies, action ride. It looks fun but it's not Orson Welles.

Ok I went to see this movie with my date this afternoon. This movie sucks. Yes, there is WM/AF love thing going on, but that's not why the movie sucks. The story and plot are weak. CGI is second rate, especially the three-headed dragon. The icee coke I had was too icy.

It was good to see Russell Wong in a big Hollywood film again though. The man has aged since his Vanishing Son days.

Haha, it's a callback to the 19th century really. Dashing white hero, evil yellow oriental menace, stupid serialized plot.

I have to say the director isn't a total ass. He did do Dragon: The Bruce Lee story. However, he also did Fast and the Furious and this movie. I don't know what to say.

I don't think the script is written or chosen by the director, so he's not really accountable to begin with.

I also think you forgot to add dashing white hero screws asian trophy girl, though I think they already knew this would really stand out and so tried to lessen the blow by giving the trophy girl to the white sidekick (?). Have to admit it's pretty smart.

Though there's also an am/af couple in the movie mummy's so that doesn't make things equal but I think it's designed to placate the audiences when they market it overseas in asia.
