she's kind of got man-face going on in that picture though.

i wonder if people will complain about what Chow Yun Fat looks like. yeah he looks Fu Manchu-ish. but i think his facial hair, to the best of my knowledge, is accurate of what a Chinese pirate in the 1800s would look like.

Supposedly Yun-Fat's character and his crew are enemies of Jack and the rest at first, but then team up against Davy Jones and the guy that got his heart in the last movie.

I'll only watch this movie if CHow Yun Fat gets it on with Keira Knightly.
Or at least Johnny Depp.

Wow, I would have never guessed that was a picture of Chow Yun-Fat.
I wonder how close Ken Watanabe was to getting the part?

my theory:

Yun Fat-"ahoho! You are to be my WIFE!!!"

keira-"Bollocks I say! (thwack)!"

Yun Fat-"sigh okay..."

Been saying this one is the darkest and violent one of the three, so it may have to be rated Arrrrr.....haha. Oh, forget it. =P

It does appear to be a Jian/Gim (Chinese Straight Sword also known as as a Tai Chi sword or Scholar's sword)

The Liu Ye Dao (also known as a willow leaf saber) that chow yun fat is using looks way cooler though.

Oh yeah and she's not holding it correctly.

Jian's are typically one handed swords although there are some jians with a hand and a half pommel and even more rarely, two-handed jian's but these are usually more contemporary and not generally traditional.

Large two handed blades are usually used as anti-calvalry blades being unwieldy to use in combat. also Jian's were generally not used by soldiers but more by private civilians being more difficult to learn to wield with skill than curved blades such as the different types of Daos.

Jian's = Point/Stab/Slice, think Chinese fencing as in Jet Li's Fearless. Contact point is usually the upper area of the blade. with ricasso for defense and bottom as deflect/pivot point.
Dao = Slashing = think predecessor to the katana.

I was looking forward to seeing this film, mainly because of Chow Yun-Fat.

But I read that CYF doesn't have that great of a role. Read that while he wasn't an all out "yellow peril" stereotype, he character was sorta stereotypical and even marginal. :frown:

CYF deserves better, but I will reserve judgment until I see this movie.
