Chinese New year

I will be in Thailand for chinese new year. Do they celebrate it there? Should i get some red envelopes for my younger friends?

there is a sizable Thai Chinese population there. so i assume it will be celebrated in the neighborhoods with Chinese people. plus, there are a lot of Chinese tourists there nowadays. possibly more Chinese tourists than tourists from any other countries (excluding the sexpats...). i'm sure it'll be celebrated at least somewhere.

New Year celebration in Thailand is limited to a few predominately ethnic Chinese-populated northern cities according to my sources.

Yeah .... Chinese Lunar New Year coming on February 18 2007.
