actually, the fact that he was anti-communist, it made all the sense in the world at the time for the US to normalise relations with the PRC. the USSR was clearly a bigger threat, and the PRC and USSR had reached a point where they hated each other. this was during the Cold War, and a lot of international politics involved the US and USSR both jockeying for allies.
