I got a quick question to anyone that has experience weight-training.

Is it a bad idea to work all the muscles which are in the same muscle groups? For example, on Monday, working out the biceps, triceps, and shoulders. On Tuesday, quads, hamstrings, and calves.

The only reason I think this might be a bad idea is if I work out all the muscles in the same group on the same day, my arms/legs won't be able to function for the next few days.

That sore, unable to function feeling will pass as you work out more often. Within a couple workouts, you'll be able to function normally the next day.

Good to know.

However, is it a good idea to perform such a schedule?

Depends on what you want to do really. Bulk, strength, tone, endurance or maintenance?

My schedule is M/W - triceps, chest; T/Th - back, shoulders, biceps with cardio and abs every day as well. I do about 10-12 exercises each day with 3 sets each, basically working every muscle group to exhaustion. The one day of rest is plenty enough for me.

www.wannabebig.com

A lot of aspiring body builders go to that site. I learned so much going there.

banana-I think most people work out 2 unrelated muscle groups a day i.e. chest and biceps, back, shoulders and triceps, legs usually have their own day because they're the largest muscles, and if you want you can do abs on another day.

I'm personally after tone. What's a good schedule?

I'm looking for bulk.

Not practical joke bulk but bigger.

Higher weights, fewer reps.

This is where I drop a 50 pound barbell on my foot.

Anyone heard comments or reviews on the Selecttech barbell system from Bowflex?

I like this site personally: http://www.exrx.net/Exercise.html

Shows you different exercises for different muscles, several types of programs, a sample training log. All around good stuff.

biceps, triceps and shoulders on one day is a TERRIBLE idea.

IMO, shoulders should be worked by themselves, one day. You use your shoulders doing a lot of the exercises so to make sure that you get the most out of your shoulder work, just isolate it to one day.

I've been on the fence about working muscle groups, I've read where it's best to work complementary muscles, biceps and triceps, chest and back yes i've also read that it's beneficial to work chest and tri's, biceps and back. I've tried both techniques over the years and i'm not even sure anymore.

If you were so inclined, just do an upper body mixed with calves. Or if it's a leg day you can go light on the upper body, that really depends on how you schedule your workout. You want to wait a day between working out. What you can do everyday is run and/or AB work. You need the rest in between for your body to repair and restore itself.

I usually go to www.bodybuilding.com they have some good articles on there and you can read up on different routines and exercises.
