I really liked it. Every once in a while you need to watch those sappy romantic comedies to get a good laugh and kind of revitalize the idealist/romantic in you. Plus, the lead girl was hella cute. Anyone else see it?

if you ask me, it was a lil too long. they probably could've done away with 15-20 min. it was funny and all, but not all of it contributed to the plot or anything.

I think my fav part was in the subway when they were betting on who'd step over the line with which foot. hahaha, i can only to have any kind of relatinship like that.

off topic and sorry to bring back an old topic

i heard dreamworks purchased the rights to this movie
(so english version soon)

i heard there is going to be a part 2 but not sure
can anybody confirm?

i kno for sure the story continues after the end (if u can read korean or chinese its online somewhere)
and i kno what happens in the end (after the first movie)

my fave part would be with the soldier kidnapping bit
i think it went something thing like this
guy: let her go?
soldier: NO
guy: let me go instead?
ahaahaha

name romantic comedies or just.. good movies?
i don't think all of them have subtitles in english though.

well, i really liked "letter" a woman who receives letters from her dead husband. need lots of kleenex.
there's "jjim" about a man who dresses in drag to befriend his crush.
"change" about two high school students whose bodies get switched.
"promise" love story between a gangster(puahaha) and a doctor.
"bye june" about a group of friends.
"museum and the zoo" two roommates falling in love.
of course, there's "shiri". and "happy end" and "tell me something."
those are just some...

i was really hoping that "letter" and "museum and the zoo" would garner some international praise. they were really good movies.
"tell me something" has been part of a couple of film festivals here in nyc though.
yay!

There is this actor (don't know his name) - in the screenplay the two leads are writing - I think is very talented. He did get much screen time, but I've seen him in Nowhere to Hide and MUSA, just love his performance.

Did you loved it not because it's attraction at first sight, but how their love developed over time? I think that's the point of the movie.
it was so endearing how she was this messy girl who did just about everything to turn him off, and not intentionally, but they still fell in love.

is he a young actor?

US versions? there aren't that many. which ones are you talking about?
here's a great place to buy VCDs online
www.yesasia.com (http://www.yesasia.com)
they get their inventory straight from Asia, so no worrying about edited versions. but they do charge about twice as much as they would cost in Asia - but it's still not that much if you buy the VCDs. they also sell HK versions of Korean movies, which has english subtitles in it for non-Korean speakers like me. :P

you mean the quentin tarantino version? nah that's exactly the same as the original version. i haven't really noticed any editing in the US versions really. at least not with the older and more obscure movies. popular ones like jackie chan movies, maybe. hehehhe, is chungking express the only HK movie you know? :P i mean besides kungfu movies and jackie chan movies.

hmm... i think i will have to watch both versions again to see. i've seen both versions before.

i love HK cinema, but actually none of my favorite films are kungfu films or action films. my other favorite HK directors are: Ann Hui, Fruit Chan, Peter Chan. i have a list of films i made for iris (she's in HK right now). if you want it i can give it to you too. i think i still have it somewhere on my computer.

and you know, you live in NY. no need to buy VCDs online. just get them in chinatown. they're actually almost as cheap as people sell them in HK.

VCD - Video CD
it's a regular data CD and you can fit an entire movie onto two disks. the file size is the exact same as MPG, so there's really just a slight difference in format.
VCDs are extremely cheap, even the legal non-pirated ones. and you can just guess how easily it is to copy a VCD. anybody with a CD burner can do it. a movie on VCD in HK costs anywhere from $3 to $5 USD. a pirated one costs less than $2 USD. whereas a movie ticket could cost anywhere from $8 to $10 USD.

Why are you dissing Kelly Chen? I know she got messed up teeth. With the kind of money she's got I don't know why she doesn't go to a dentist and have them fixed. She has average acting talent. You should be dissing Michael Wong.

Kaneshiro Takeshi is mixed Japanese and Taiwanese. his chinese name is Wu Jin Cheng.

Karen Mok's last name is technically Morris because of her Welsh grandfather. her father, who is half Chinese and half Welsh is an extremely learned scholar of Chinese history and classical Chinese language. Karen herself is pretty much a prodigy. she can speak something like 5 languages and she graduated high school as one of the top students in the entire city of HK.

hmm ... did the Chinese subtitles seem strange? I'm just asking cuz the first time I watched it was this past semester, when my friend downloaded a version from the internet which had only Chinese subtitles. They were weird ... kinda ungrammatical, miswrote certain four-character phrases using the wrong word, etc. Do Koreans do their own subtitling for foreign releases of films? Cuz I know most Japanese movies released in HK are subtitled by Chinese people, same with English movies ...

whenever there's subtitles in any language, i always feel subconsciously compelled to pay attention to them and not listen. like i always read the chinese subtitles on soap opeas or the news. even when i don't understand the language of the subtitles, my brain will keep trying to read it, and then I miss out on what's being said. pisses me off.

Karen Mok's last name is technically Morris because of her Welsh grandfather. her father, who is half Chinese and half Welsh is an extremely learned scholar of Chinese history and classical Chinese language. Karen herself is pretty much a prodigy. she can speak something like 5 languages and she graduated high school as one of the top students in the entire city of HK.
yes, but unfortunately, she can't even stay on key during a concert. my roommate insisted on playing live recordings all term. ggaah. :gross:

her face looks kinda odd to me. bad proportion or something. Oh yeah and watching her and Hsu Chi in Xi Yang Tian Shi was kinda hard on the ears. I've always found Hsu Chi's accent in Cantonese to be especially annoying.

yeah I'm in a mindlessly critical mood today.

Yeah, Dreamworks bought the rights to do a remake for the North American market. Hong Kong is doing a remake too. IMO, they'll never live up to the original - Jeon Jihyun and Cha Taehyun chemistry and their facial expressions are unmatch.

yea My sassy girl is being brought over. The deal was worked out by the same guy that is credited for bring "the ring" to america (Roy Lee). Hes also bringing other korean movies to Hollywood including "my wife is a gangster" & "Il mare". Its in November issue of Koream (the one with Rick Yune-my husband-on the cover)
i have to admit that I like the american version of "the Ring" better--but i think that its because Korean TV/Cinema still has a bit of innocence to it and It makes scary movies...just not so scary. BUTTTTT it works in Romances/comedys. So i Think my sassy girl-k version will be best :-D

There was a Korean remake which was kind of more true to the book.
