Other people have been talking about Darfur for at least 3 years now... I'm not sure why it's suddenly getting attention from more prominent figures.

Manute Bol cares about Sudan. He started a Sudan Freedom Walk aimed at ending the genocide. He also has no money left from playing ball, he gave it all away to charities when he moved back to Sudan.

The Sudan produces some 500,000 barrels of oil a day (http://www.anba.com.br/ingles/noticia.php?id=10969).
