Jesse Bradford Gets Sassy Girl

Jesse Bradford has signed on to star in My Sassy Girl, Gold Circle's remake of the South Korean hit romantic comedy.
Yann Samuell is directing the movie, which is being produced by Gold Circle's Paul Brooks, Vertigo's Roy Lee and Maverick Films' Mark Morgan.
"Girl" tells the story of a small-town guy from the Midwest who thought he had his entire life mapped out until he falls for a reckless, brazen girl who turns his life upside down. Elisha Cuthbert already has been cast as the sassy girl.
Shooting will start in early November in New York.

So does this mean they'll keep the bitchslapping scene?

So we get to see Cuthbert throw up and stuff in the fist 5 minutes of the film. Nice.
So they story is set in NYC then?

Cool! I watched the korean version and the ending was sooo sweet. Can't wait to watch the American version.

I watched it about 30 times in Korean before I got one with English subtitles. It was like watching a different movie when I finally understood what they were saying.
But yeah, I liked the ending, but not after I understood from the english version who that lady was at the very end. For some reason, that destroyed it for me.

So far, I don't see this movie working as a remake. The original version worked because of Jun Ji-hyun, and its going to be very difficult to try to capture that same quality. Keep everything the same but change actresses and the movie could have easily fell apart. Plus, what made the film so succesful was that Korean audiences hadn't really seen a character like that before whereas I don't think such a character would be as shocking or refreshing to American audiences. Too bad, Jun Ji-Hyun couldn't reprise this role for the american movie. From her role in Daisy, we know her English is actually pretty good.
Instead, I think a much easier film to do a remake would be Too beautiful to Lie. While it didn't reach the same heights as My Sassy Girl, I think it would be more translatable into a Hollywood comedy. I could see the female as a jaded NYC type, going to return the ring to the boy's hometown, a small town in the Midwest.

Sounds similar to "Sweet Home Alabama."

The movie is actually about a female con artist who meets this naive pharmacist on the train, where she witnesses a criminal steal a engagement ring from the unaware pharmacist. So, she goes to steal it back but ends up losing a important bag she had in the process. Then, she goes to the guy's hometown to return the ring in exchange for her bag but the guy isn't there. Since she's an ex-con, she's afraid everybody will assume she stole it and throw her back into prison so she makes up some lies and it soon gets out of control as everybody in the guy's hometown soon thinks she's the pharmacist's fiancee and that the pharmacist has gotten her pregnant.
Its with the same actress who was in My Tutor Friend, but I personally liked Too beautiful to Lie more and think it would be easier to americanize it than My Tutor Friend even though MTF was the bigger hit in Korea. The movie isn't groundbreaking or a classic like My Sassy Girl, but I found it to be quite entertaining.

Is the plot from My Tutor Friend the one where the tutor is the daughter of chicken fryers or something like that?
I was told the title could be translated as My Chicken Tutor Friend or something too, and for some reason I have that particular movie in mind. Ugh. It was hilarious. =)
^that movie was funny....what's the name of the male actor? i think he's dreamy, and i totally wanted to stalk him after i watched (and cried through) "stairway to heaven". dammit....why can't guys like that visit my work every week?
haha....the first time my bf watched "my sassy girl" he couldn't help but think of me. and then i watched it. i didn't like the comparison. jerk.

I hate the MPD type comparison people give me from Better Luck Tomorrow when I have a Virgil moment or a Ben moment. I had people call me out on it. Eh. LOL

Are they keeping the title? As far as I can tell sassy went out of style back in the 90s

My Bitchy Girl?

"oh! drama queen!" and "pretty pretty princess" sound good too.

I think if you were to translate Yupgi Girl, it would mean Bizzare Girl.
Is the plot from My Tutor Friend the one where the tutor is the daughter of chicken fryers or something like that?
Yeah, that's the one. In one scene, she gets really pissed off because some bullies threw away and wasted some chicken she was delivering, and getting so enraged that she gives those bullies a good beating. I forgot, but I think the tutored boy comes from a mob family and that's why he's so good at fighting.
I have my doubts about successfully "translating" the film in the Hollywood re-make.
Anyway, "Too Beautiful To Lie" is a pretty funny screwball comedy w/ Kim Ha-neul.
Didn't get the allure of "My Tutor Friend" - "Almost Love" was a much better vehicle for Kim Ha-neul and Kwon Sang-woo.

I don't know if anybody saw it, but she kind of reminded me of Meg Tilly, IMO one of the prettiest women in Hollywood.

While KHN has nice features, somehow, altogether, she isn't what one would generally regard as a classic beauty.
Her persona, however, adds to her attractiveness.

I never saw the original except bits and pieces on Youtube. The trailer of the remake doesn't look as good.

Yeah, she doesn't look bitchy. There prolly won't be as much slapping in the remake. I think the director is playing it safe to American audience.

the girl doesn't seem bitchy enough and the guy doesn't seem goofy enough, compared to the original.

only if she reprises her role as Faith. because she was weaksauce in that other show she did and subsequently for which she turned down an offer to do a Faith spin-off series.

i'm tired of seeing Lucy Liu as the go-to Asian actress. give someone else a chance.

Agree on both. I don't know that many Asian-American actresses. Kelly Hu? Superman's ex girlfriend? That Jamie girl from the Real World? Magaret Cho? Bai Ling? Yuri?

I just googled all the names. Based on the image, the only girl that looks familiar to me is Nicole Bilderback. I remember her from Bring it on. Yeah, her character was bitchy. I think that'd work.

Eliza Dushku is fuckin hawt. Granted if it starred her she'd probably stake Jason Biggs in the face several times.
Hrm, this blond ain't half bad. But the film itself is too lightweight from what I've seen so far.

Jamie Chung wouldn't be able to pull off the pure bitch level needed for the character, I think. That and I question her "acting" anyways.
I was thinking Grace Park might be a good fit, if she can pull off the 'tude, but I've not seen much of her work besides Battlestar Galactica.
I'd been meaning to see the film she was in at the Asian American Film Festival, but I had to work the nites it was showing -sighs-.
