Candy from a baby artist sparks controversy

IT is a sight to break any parent's heart - a defenceless young child, sobbing uncontrollably after someone has taken away their lollipop.

However for US-based photographer Jill Greenberg the heart-wrenching photos have created a global controversy and a tidy profit.

Greenberg took photos after making two and three-year-old children cry by giving them a lollipop and then suddenly taking it way and snapping their tearful reaction.

And Greenberg, whose own daughter features among the 27 children in the series, said she was just capturing real emotions.

"It's just as valid an emotion as laughter and maybe less artificial," she said.

"To make a little kid smile for the camera is not as natural. They cry on their own."

Greenberg, 39, said her inspiration was a boy called Liam who would not stop crying during a photo shoot.

"It reminded me of helplessness and anger I feel about our current political and social situation," she said.

However the controversial series, entitled End Times has sparked worldwide outrage with some critics calling for Greenberg's arrest for child abuse.

The photographer's website has been inundated with up to 60,000 hits a day, a studio showing her work has been slammed and thousands of abusive comments have been raging across the internet.

Among the critics is San Francisco father Andrew Peterson who has called Greenberg a child abuser.

"She is a sick woman who should be arrested and charged with child abuse," he said.

"It seems absurd that any parent who loved their child would purposefully take the child to Greenberg's studio to then be tormented to the point of emotional outrage."

Greenberg is not upset by the dispute because her photos series is selling well - at $6000 each.

maybe someone should kick her ass then photograph her in pain and humiliation -- that'd be real emotion too...

Why are they naked?

And I think the photographer is expressing her pedophilia in a different way...

I honestly pity those children, who knows though, maybe they can pull a Bart Simpson and sue their parents for exploitation.
