Anyone else here a Deadwood [series on HBO] fan? I don't think I can express how much I love that show.

At any rate, what do you think of the characterization of Mr. Wu? Accurate representation of the Chinese Americanization experience in American Wild West? Or is Keone Young being underutilized? Has anyone caught the interview with him on the DVD extras?

Be aware of posting spoilers and use the spoiler tag where needed.

Yes to both questions.

I only saw like the last 15 minutes of one episode. Basically chinese gang goes to a opium den and chops some dudes up with a hatchet. They kick a hooker out (literally in the butt) who's with a john and then chop him up. Friend tells me it was cuz the dude burned a bunch of Chinese hookers...

It was the end of the power struggle between two gangs, yes. And please use spoiler tags. Luckily, I've already made it through season 2.

Of course it would've been nice if they dove a bit deeper into his background, learn a bit more about his motivations (other then money). Most of the chracters on the show are based off of real life people, I might have to research a bit to see if there really was a Mr. Wu who ran the local Chinese population.

Here's a wiki entry for the characters of Deadwood and who they were based off of: Deadwood (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadwood_(TV_series)).

There might be some spoilers in there so if you haven't seen all the seaons you may want to avoid it.

I liked the first two seasons...but after that somehow the show got a bit boring. Mr. Wu is memorable...though as to historically accurate I couldn't say.

BEWARE!!

BEEEEEWARE!!

Close your eyes! Don't look!

Okay, last episode of Season 2 he cut off his queue (braid) and made a public declaration that he was American now. I hope that means he gets more lines. I was disappointed with Li (i.e. "San Francisco cocksucka!") because Li was bilingual and he was a good foil for Swearengen. Thought he would get more lines.

In season 3, the show let the audience know how much Swearengen value Mr. Wu's importance. There was one scene where Swearengen made sure that his people gave the respect that Wu deserved. I am not gonna say more, but Mr. Wu character has become a major factor in the power struggle in Season 3 of Deadwood, which by the way just concluded on HBO.
