I was in Borders, and picked up this interesting graphic novel that follows the adventure of the last man on earth after some virus wipes out every other man on earth while nothing happens to the women. Its an interesting answer to the question of what it would be like if women ran society.

Here's a free copy of the very first issuse:

I may be totally missing the point, but it'd be awesome to be that guy. Even if women were to find you repulsive they'd have to carry on the race somehow, muhahaha.

u'd be extremely valuable but not irreplaceable. there's lots of frozen sperm in the reproduction clinics. and if there wasn't, the race would prolly be dead anyways b/c of inbreeding.

as for the story, i wonder what happened to hermaphrodites and transexuals.

it would be interesting if the last man was a non-white dude. but i guess they had to cater to the majority fan base.

If you've read the book, you already know that it's nowhere near as shangri-la as you would think. We claim we'd love to be the only male in a sea of females, but think about it. I mean REALLY think about it. There are times I get bugged by one woman, so 50 million would be kinda....gahhh.

I think practically they would put the last man on earth in a lab doing nothing but providing sperm in a cup.

In the storyline, there's a group of women known as Amazons that see what happened as a sign that all men should be wiped off. So, these Amazons then go further and destroy all the fertility clinics as well as any memorials dedicated to all the men died. They're pretty psycho, and even cut off their left breasts because that's what the original Amazons of mythology did.

As for transexuals, the Amazons also killed any of the transexuals where the women became men.

Too bad the bookstore didn't have the rest of the graphic novels. It would be interesting to see where the rest of the story went.

(SPOILERS A COMIN)^---what I found weird was the first chick who discovers him says "you're not my type"

her type is dead...

When I was reading it, I wasn't immediately blown away by it. But, as soon as I finished the first graphic novel, I knew I was hooked when I wanted to read the next graphic novel.

I think the message of the storyline is not to act as some guy's fantasy, but as a vehicle to show the inequality women face despite all the strides they may have had. In the beginning, the comic lists the statistics of how men still dominate society. And, the story illustrates that by showing the chaos in the government as there were no women in high level positions that could step in to run the government. It was a nice touch how the Republicans may have run both houses of Congress before what happened, but that they were mostly all men so that the Democratic Party then dominated government since they had more women representatives. Another nice touch was that the garbageman turned out to be a former fashion model which a women-only society had no more use for. She was bitching that she there was no use for the breast implants she just got before the plague.

Given such a message, its not surprising that this last man was not more appreciative of this, um, oppurtunity.
