Lol, I remember taking a special projects class on anime (yup, it counted towards my Asian Studies major). We had a guest speaker from Studio Gonzo who mentioned Afro Samurai to us and that Samuel Jackson himself called them up and said, "You know you're gonna cast in the movie, right?"

no, mcgruder had nothing to do with this. besides, this is sooooooo not mcgruder's style. as for looking horrible, i know it's matter of taste, but i despise the drawing style.

I was discussing this recently on a Black-centric board. We're just loving the fact that EVERYTHING the Japanese does concerning Black people HAS to have an "afro" in it somewhere. I guess afros are to Black people like kimonos are to Japanese. Nothing global-nuclear-war wrong with that outlook, but...this joint seems mad dated...like it should've been made back in 1989!

And the lead character doesn't even have a real afro, it's this wonky bush shit.
