Our outreach plan for Anna Guo has been expanded to enlist anyone who can help. If you'd like to help, you can get a free yellowworld.org email!

1) choose a type of org, such as domestic violence shelters, chinese clubs on campuses, etc.
2) do a search under google for orgs under this category
3) get the email addresses of each org
4) email them using the below standard email
5) make a list including the name of each organization and its email and send it to achtungbaby.

************************************************** ************************
Standard Email:

[starts here]

http://anna.yellowworld.org

Dear [name of org or representative],

My name is [name], and I am writing today to bring to your attention the case of Anna Guo. I would like to ask the help and support of your organization in this matter.

On May 5, 2002, 14-year old Anna Guo was attempting suicide by slashing her wrists with a knife when five Ventura County (California) police officers arrived at the home of her foster parents. Instead of rescuing the suicidal girl -- or at the very least, calming or disarming her -- officers responded with deadly force, firing three shots into her abdominal area, the last bullet striking Anna's side after she'd already crumpled to the floor.

In order to cover-up their negligent misconduct, the District Attorney's Office charged Anna with felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon, in hopes of providing officers a reasonable defense for the shooting of a girl, barely five feet tall and surrounded by two other officers. Anna's trial will take place on December 16, 2002. She is currently detained at Ventura's Juvenile Hall and is still recovering from the gunshot wounds.

We at Yellowworld.org ask your organization join us in our letter writing and petition campaign to request the district attorney to drop the charge against Anna until further investigation of police misconduct is made. Information and a sample letter can be found at
http://anna.yellowworld.org. Please feel free to email us at webmaster@yellowworld.org or kasie@yellowworld.org if you have any questions.

Sincerely yours,

[name]

hey, janet.

are you going to be emailing the campuses themselves or the organizations in them? or professors of certain classes? maybe you can narrow your group down so that we won't have too much overlap.

:luv: thanks.

that's an idea too--if anyone wants to take on the task of emailing every sociology professor in a certain state or something...

At the suggestion of Mama Kasie, I'm covering Chinese or Chinese-American campus groups.

edit: it's more groups than i doubt, just doing a google search. So i will most likely narrow it to major NY and CA schools & upenn &uchicago. so far i have chinese/hong kong/taiwanese/singaporean groups fr mit, rochester ny, washington.edu (dunno if tats state or st louis), northwestern, u hawaii, columbia.

Chris, can you work out with ChinaLama who'll be taking what...? Also, PM me what user name you want to use for your YW email...

Just to give everyone an update: Kasie and I met informally with attorney Mike Yamamoto, one of the top criminal defense attorney's in the country, to pick his brain and get some ideas on strategy. We'll be meeting again with CACA this Sat to discuss the protest.

If any of you can help -- and I mean in whatever capacity -- it would be helpful. I dunno if I can handle this much longer...!

hey, Chris. I'll have a list drawn up by hopefully mid-day tomorrow (dunno if i'll meet AB's deadline of 8 AM PST). Can you take on Chinese community orgs outside college? And if you're not too busy, maybe colleges outside NY, CA, Northwestern, Washington U., Hawaii U., Penn, and UChicago.

thx dude.

BTW this just occurred to me. Although I'm not gonna backtrack, for ppl doing college orgs, it may be a good idea to not only click on the org's "official" email (or barring that, the president's), but also click on advisor's email. perhaps some profs will care and they'll spread the word.

I'll try to get the list to you by tonight.

would you mind sending the standard email (posted on page 1 of this thread) to all professors of asian american studies in california. would you also keep a list of the names of the professors and their emails and forward that list to ab?

would you like a yw email account? if so, contact ab via private message.

It's freaking hard to get the e-mails of the people that I am looking for. They are usually just a list of names. I'd have to go to each one of the Uni to get a list and maybe e-mail addresses depending on their site. How should I go about getting the e-mails in a less time-consuming way?

so far, that has been our only method of contacting the orgs--unless we know somebody from a specific organization...sometimes, on google - i'm able to find a list of all the orgs and that makes it easier--the emails aren't listed, but the sites are, so i'd just go into each one and hit back to go back to the list.

it's a pain, i know...

please try to do what you can, but don't let it get in the way of work or spending time with your friends/family. california-based organizations are the most important.

for everyone else, please help us out if you aren't already. the more people there are doing this, the lesser the workload per person.

we're not getting any real reponses from these groups, though, it seems....although as i mentioned, there are a huge number of asian teens from wales, pennsylvania signing...so maybe what we're doing is working...

if someone can do this, that would be great. i'm currently working on something else for the project (to be disclosed later)...it would be great if someone can volunteer to contact the latino community.

this is actually very important b/c the latino and african-american communities of ventura county have called on the police in the recent past (2001) to train their officers on racial sensitivity. they may be very interested to learn about anna's case.

Hey! I got a reply from a professor! Here is what he said:

"Hi, Jensen. Thank you for informing me of the Anna Guo case. Do you have any more information about this case? Your website has no information. Please advise."

He's a PhD & J.D from csulb.edu! I assume that he wants to know the nitty-gritty of the case since the basic information is already on the site. What should I do now? Give his e-mail address to AB or KC?

hey ren,

there's a statement of facts and summary that were just put up on the site today. maybe you can have your professor look at that. there's also a lot of info under archives listed on the right hand side (i think we should make that more noticable for people). but definitely give him our emails if he wants more info. we'd be glad to talk to him.

OK, I had some personal issues and had to take a step back, but reading that story about the cops in Ventura and suicides has gotten me enraged again. Whatever needs to be done, I can help out.

Oh...the story referred to in this (http://forums.yellowworld.org/index.php?act=ST&f=5&t=3921) thread about the Supreme Court looking at the police miranda rule comes out of Oxnard (Ventura) Police misbehavior while questioning someone.
