Apparently, these people think that windows desktops need to simulate real life desktop. In my experience, my desktop is too messy and leads to me not being productive because I'm flipping through so many papers. I would go crazy if any OS used this. I would literally, tear my computer apart.

That would be a lot of fun for a short while, then incredibly annoying.

Another example of crap software expanding using fancy graphics to use up all the available memory and processing power (and thus leave none for the actual applications you want to run), without actually increasing the amount of work you can get done with it. Windows already takes up hundreds of MB of RAM, what the hell are they trying to do, force every desktop to come with 1GB standard just so you can read e-mails and open spreadsheets at the same time?

What the hell ever happened to an OS that could run in 640kb???

Oh yeah, that site design fucking sucks. Why do they need to use Flash for every goddamn button and image, even the static ones????

Nothing makes you happy does it :)? Yeah, i'm not going to defend the totallycrap.com web design. Their main page sucks even more. It's mostly text, and when you don't have much time, you really don't feel like reading.

But yeah, I don't know what they are thinking with this. It's mind boggling

That's true. Maybe they shold implement it into some game or something. Like an office simulation game.

So guys, you heard about that new Windows Vista? I heard it's got this 3D interface called Aero...

Let the Japanese do it. They can make being castaway on a deserted island fun for hours, as seen in the game Lost in Blue for Nintendo DS.

for people who like simple, minimalist window managers, I recommend fluxbox: http://fluxbox.sourceforge.net/

I don't think this particular 3d desktop would be very computationally expensive. Considering most if not all 3d objects are just boxes which contain no more than 12 triangles, and the physics engine is only used for collision detection and resolution between these boxes only when the user is directly manipulating objects on the desktop. Some of the special effects such as foldering a window may increase the polygon counts, but only by a very small amount. I would get this window manager if it was available on linux.

Pros:
- Desktops are virtually halfway to this point already with 3D icons
- Tech application might be the natural evolution of "natural" computer interaction towards other beneficial things in the near future
- It does seem like fun...at first
- Why stop at your own desktop when you could reach out in a virtual 3D world and mess with someone else's?

Cons:
- Too distracting and inefficient for the workplace; seems more compatible for casual, at home use because of the "natural mess" file factor
- Loss of extremely fun and personalizing desktop wallpapering ability
- Mo' memory, mo' memory, mo' memory...
- Why stop at your own desktop when you could reach out in a virtual 3D world and mess with someone else's?

Careful who you put your faith in now. They're the ones who also bungled up that 500-person "orgy."
