I just got an ipod and whenever I connect its USB 2.0 port into my computer's USB (2.0) port, the entire computer instantly freezes.

I'm pretty sure it's not the ipod's problem since I've had troubles with USB flash drives too (with the same freezing happeing so I'm suspecting there's something wrong with the USB ports).

any ideas on how I can fix this?

Could be a problem withe USB drivers on XP. May want to do a troubleshoot on them. You could attempt to buy one of those 4 port USB hubs and see if you can plug stuff into those, even if it is originally plugged into the faulty port. That worked for me once.

Are you sure that your comps USB ports are 2.0? if its a few years old they might not be, or you may need to go to microsoft updates to get the right driver.

the two ports in front are 2.0s.

there's a few in the back which are USB.

Also, go into your Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and make sure there are no "?" for any devices.

Make sure your USB 2.0 feature as well as your "Plug and Play" OS is enabed in your BIOS.

As someone also said, go to the Windows Update site via IE and make sure you install everything.
