On November 19th, between 4pm-9pm at Saint Louis University, Asian Students In Action will be hosting our first Lantern Festival, which showcases the diversity within Asian and Asian American culture. To encourage intercultural communication, educate, and spread awareness about issues concerning international and domestic students, we will be displaying over 100 lanterns in the Cook Hall Atrium (business school). A couple dozen students will have the opportunity to paint their own lanterns and take it back with them. Chopstick demonstrations, origami demonstrations and contests, sushi demonstrations, 3 poetry readings (in English, Vietnamese, and Korean), and a song sung in Tagalog (a native language of the Phillipines) by the President of the Filipino Students Association, a duet by two guitarists from Washington University, and 2 other guitarists from Webster University and University of Missouri-- St. Louis. It's best to come between 6pm-7pm. More info? Call 314-977-3979 or 314-977-2820.

yeah it's just you. :) My parents own a restaurant in st.louis, and a lot of people ask me over and over how to use those friggin things. Of course, the people who go to my parents restaurant are not the same people who go to my school, but i'm sure i'm bound to find many people who don't know how to use'm.

they might know how to use them, however they're far from "expert class." I like it when I see white people that say they know how to use chopsticks, but when they do "use" it, they look like lil babies. They usually resort to putting the chopsticks together and trying to scoop stuff up, or stabbing the meat...

hehehe....

i need to make a lantern.

We just added a student who is willing to play the violin and another person here to read a poem in Mandarin. The booklets are almost done.... *sweating* to finish. The whole damn school knows about it.... I'm excited but nervous... eek!

oh that's cool! do her studies actually have anything to do with asian cultures? or is it just an interest of hers?

It's just an interest of hers... She joined to learn more about the way we think... perhaps.

Chopsticks. Darn.... I know how to use them, but not the way my parents do. Every one of my family relatives who are from asia tell me I'm holding my chopsticks wrong. ::sigh:: I guess I'm just not down with the culture. Or maybe it's cuz my parents got fed up after the millions try to make me sit down and eat with those darn things. I was a problem kid. :D
