Please nominate your fave cooking show and I'll make a poll out of them. Then we can discuss. Just name what you like. It'll be interesting to see the range of interests.

I like Alton. His humor is flat at times, but at least he's entertaining, and, most importantly, he explains everything, including the why, which is above and beyond other cooking shows that skips fifteen steps.

i really like ming tsai, because his show is entertaining to watch.

i like new scandinavian cooking because the dude always cook outside and in some new scandinavian location.

both are very mediocore cooks, however, with entertaining shows.

I don't care for Flay either. He does seem full of himself. Also, he should have gotten his ass kicked by the Iron Chef, during the Iron Chef competition, but lost cause the judges were all western, and had western palates incapable of truly enjoying the nuances of pure asian cooking.

i know!!!! and it was hilarious when the iron chef said he was disrespectful cuz flay jumped on top of his chopping board when he won.

That one show on PBS, Lidia's Cooking or something like that. No one cooks like an old lady from the "old country."

Probably original Iron Chef, because of the HILARIOUS dubbing and the crazy and sometimes nonsensical dishes that come out of kitchen stadium. INK FRIED RICE? Come on!

My favourite episode was the cocky Japanese guy who said that no restaurant in Japan could match up to his high standards, then went out and beat Chen Kenichi.

Ming Tsai is second, he is really talented and can cook both Asian and western style.

What happened to Yan Can Cook????!!! :D

There was one running on PBS for a while on the weekdays, that had an elderly grandpa sort of guy with salt and peppered hair (more salt than pepper) with glasses and a mustache, who used to cook some awesome just hodgepodge homecooking, that went a little ethnic at times (like doing greek food, italian food, chinese food, etc). The recipes were simple and the show kept me entertained as a kid.

It came on PBS right before "Wild America" with Marty Stouffer (sp?).

i voted for ming tsai cause he's cute.

but my real vote goes to a show that's not listed. does anyone watch the jade channel (tvb)? there's a show called "beauties in the kitchen" where hong kong's hottest actresses and models are chosen to have cookoffs (usually 3 or 4 girls at a time) - usually cooking fish, octopus, crab, or something equally difficult. guest judges are usually other famous celebrities - who actually have to try each dish and rate them. it's pretty amusing watching the celebrities puke all over the place. i guess the idea is that beautiful women have no cooking skills.

Gawd I love the original Iron Chef. I also love the Downtown parody that was made after the last episode.

Before I left LA, I was watching the Dotch Cooking show. That show had me drooling at some of the dishes that were featured.

Flay is a one note player. He approaches every challenge by putting corn, or mango salsa on it. He only won in the original Iron Chef competition because the Japanese never thought to put corn in recipes. What was that quote from a judge, "Corn. That's so exotic!"

I love Beauties in the Kitchen - too bad that is over.

I liked Ming Tsai better during East Meets West - I never got into Simply Ming. For the record Rachael Ray cannot cook (I know I spelled her name wrong).

Giada is so pretty - even as heterosexual girl I like watching Giada [sigh].

I heart Iron Chef - pure cooking madness and I don't have to rely on the "celebrity" name of the chefs because I don't know who they are!!!

I actually like Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman and Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. Both are not so much as a cooking show, as it's more of a local flavor/taste the cusine travel show. And it's awesome.

Did I add Nigella Lawson?
There was also cooking with Korma.
I also used to like watching this one on SBS by the brits where three housemates have a competition cooking. Can't remember what it's called.

ace of cakes is pretty cool cuz they are really creative with the construction of their custom cakes.

also, i love to watch that one show with gordon ramsay, not the competition one, but the one where he makes over crappy restaurants. it's awesome when he yells at everyone, including the owner.

Christina Cooks is my new passion. Nothing but vegetarian, healthy dishes. I won't be eating any of it, but she sounds so soothing. And Giada DeLaurentis, the midget with massive cleavage as well.

andrew ate the armadillo in mexico (among a slew of other
disgusting insect related food items) and tony ate the porcupine
in vietnam.

the armadillo part actually showed them preparing the whole
armadillo and that got me queasy.
but i really enjoy both shows.
especially tony's jabs at rachael ray.
he's hilarious.
