Insecurity about your race is more of an unconscious allusion of insecurity of yourself.
Judging from your posts, and your blog.
I dare say you have quite a bit of low-self esteem
and just appear to be in denial and rationalizing/deflecting it onto your ethnicity.
ie..
Im think I'm ugly.... omg korean girls are so pretty.
i must be ugly because im filipino.
then you start to think of other things you dislike that you can associate with your heritage.
filipino language is so blah. (maybe cuz your familiar with it) korean is so wonderful (maybe its because its different/exotic?) grass is always greener on the other side.
I think you need to come to terms with yourself (easier said then done.)
but it'll come with time.

Elvie's Turo-Turo. Maybe the best damn Filipino restaurant in the city. Everytime I go there I find myself wishing I'd grown up with this kinda eatin' instead of the fast food crap I automatonically wolfed down dern near every day. If you don't like your culture, you can take McDonald's and I'll gratefully take yours!

A first rate Turo-turo in the East Village that features many Filipino foods such as mongo (lentil stew), chicken adobo, pinakbet, and longaniza. Elvie is actually there every day.

Quick, somebody rush AmplifiedGirl a copy of America Is in the Heart by Carlos Bulosan (http://www.learner.org/amerpass/unit12/authors-2.html), STAT!
P.S. AmplifiedGirl: That’s a pretty smokin’ cinnamon-skinned, raven-haired babe in your avatar. How do you know she’s not Filipino?

Sexualizing her avatar will make her embrace her ethnic identity?
AmplifiedGirl must have chosen that hyper-sexual-female image for her avatar because she feels some affirmative connection with it. (I didn’t choose her avatar for her.) If she sees something positive in that image, and she can connect that positive thing with being ethnically Filipino, than that could possibly help her feel more positive about herself.
I’m not saying that AmplifiedGirl has to get herself all dolled up and look like Tia Carrere to make her feel better about being Filipino, but if being Filipino can include the positive qualities that she associates with her avatar, that might help her feel better about her heritage and herself. (I hope that AmplifiedGirl is not some white dood posing as a Filipino female on-line.)
By the way, Kim, the avatar under discussion is clearly of a hyper-sexual, eroticized figure, even if it might be the figure of some guy in drag. My question is: How can you “sexualize” something that’s already sexual.

but do they serve balut?
I believe they do, but I've never ordered it. Or if they don't have it, I know of a place that does. It was profiled in the recent February ish of GQ in this article about "alternate" ethnic delicacies in NYC and the writer had an order of balut. If I had the mag on me right now at work, I'd know for sure.

Hello amplifiedgirl...i'm sorry you wish you weren't from the philippines. That's an unfortunate position to be in, having unhappiness with your country of origin.
BUT.
There is hope.
Thank god you've arrived at this moment. I know exactly how to help you out.
You see, we had this chap a little while back by the name of Nickaroo (http://forums.yellowworld.org/member.php?u=5083) who also had an interesting dilemma. He wanted to bang his filipina wife and have children with her...but didn't want his kids to have any filipina blood! Now this was surely a crisis of the UTMOST importance, and we quickly scrambled (http://forums.yellowworld.org/showthread.php?t=23980&page=5) around to help him remedy his conundrum. Sadly, he left before he could tell us the results of our advice, but you can help him out! As a filipina who doesn't want to be filipina, you can fulfill all his dreams of having an exotic, willing, sexy, "cool" love-slave without all that culture, ethnicity, and responsibility, and understanding that comes with interracial love!
Apply now! Go go go!
btw, just to note, that was a joke.
In all seriousness...yes, the Philippines are a bit of a "mess" these days, but that's no reason to turn your back on the country! It's still a beautiful country with amazing people, great food, a vibrant culture, and yes yes yes NON-DICKHEAD men also.
Ironically, growing up, I kind of wished I was filipino because all the cool asian kids were the filipinos. Us chinese (even chinese with philippines born parents) were the dorky asians, while the filipinos could dance and rap and wear cool clothes.
Anyways, thats somewhat irrelevant. My advice is learn to embrace yourself, and screw everything else. So you think your country is a wreck, it's alright, they'll pull out of it and you can be proud to be filipina again!

OH hey guys, i just thought i would like to share a thing about myself in this thread-- i am an adopted korean who was born in korea... but i dont think i like the country korea... in fact, i've grown to really hate it and the korean ppl that live there... cuz my country rejected me, and when i visited my birth place... all i ever experienced there were koreans who acted racist, rude, and insensitive fucks towards me... so yeah, korean ppl, korean culture... i just find that they have NO redeeming positive value and worth to me... so yeah, dont make me have to love a country and its ppl, its culture thats i dont consider mine to begin with that i wouldnt want to appreciate in any way in the first place... yeah, FUck my own race and my ethnicity... and the country where i origionally was born in... cuz what positive value do ppl of korea have in the first place, but zero...
like OH... MY... GOD...
i swear, this type of shitty attitude other korean adoptees have just makes me wanna SCREAM??!!!! like seriously, WTF???!!! when other kads go on their NON STOp ranting how they hate korea, korean ppl and its culture... that just gets to me... the world is an imperfect place where ever you go... theres good and bad... like god...
i feel so pissed at the moment...
perhaps i should be more empathetic, more understanding with ppl who encounter negative experiences... but i just find it TOO hard to accept such opinions when they take out their negative experiences-- and end up placing negative judgements on a whole population of ppl like that... insulting my korean friends in korea, insulting my korean friends here in the united states, and insulting me... to me, there is NO WAY i would want a person like that representing me as a korean or korean adoptee... that type of shit infuriates me...
god, i would so like to start a forum flame war...
but i'm not allowed to...
and i guess it wouldnt be worth it for me...
i guess its why i like returning back here...
the self hate--o rade isnt so deep here...
we are able to define who we are,
without self hating our race and ethnicity...
yeah, okay...
i think i'm finished now...

due to their negative experiences...
like in my mind...
i wanna say... WTF??
that doesnt make every koreans...
unfriendly, unnaccepting and such...
and the culture having no positive value
and what not...
i dont mind ppl expressing their
negative experiences...
but i hate when they project that...
onto a whole population of ppl as being negative...
its like due to their constant
one sided negative views of koreans...
i wouldnt want them to represent me...
i was just trying to impersonate them...
in my first paragraph..
shouldnt talk negatively about her...
its her train of thought i kinda dislike...
yeah, that rant just came out...
due to such ppl pissing me off like that...

Amplified, please don't speak in such generalities. Generalities are wrong, no matter the race (even if it's yours).
Some of your points are valid. The Philippines government is generally corrupt, no doubt. But it is YOUR duty to change it.
You hear that? You.
I'm half Filipino, and, honestly, I get annoyed when some Filipinos put it and its people down. My family is intelligent, talented, and good looking. (Ok guys, I had to brag to build up my case.) We are proud of what Filipino heritage we have, and my mom regularly cooks Filipino dishes and supports Filipino culture/entertainment.
Sure, the Philippines is corrupt. A lot of the brain drain in the Philippines stems from the dissatisfaction with the government.
But reforming your country starts with reforming YOUR outlook. You need to love your ethnicity and appreciate what it has accomplished. You need to RESPECT yourself and go about with dignity, unlike those Filipina prostitutes.
And YOU need to make it a point to play a part in positive change, no matter how small....be it in student movements or whatever. If you don't like it, fix it. Simple.
Interesting story: my relatives in the Philippines have a long history of being involved in politics on the local, state, and national level. They weren't all in the same political party, but my immediate grandfather was in the equivalent of the American Republican Party--a fact I despise. Basically, he represented the status quo. My mother is the only Democrat in her family and very progressive. We CHOOSE to have the more positive outlook; we choose to be socially-conscious; and we choose to constantly push for progression.
Filipinos in the Philippines need to determine their fate and determine the course of their country. They need to reform the educational system, infrastructure, government, etc. You know, the Japanese and Taiwanese were able to completely reform their country in a matter of years. It just took strong leaders and conscientious citizens. Citizens who were aware of their position and who relied on each other for motivation to get out that situation. Filipino need to rely on each other for support in reforming everything in the Philippines. They also need a good leader who won't bend over backwards for corporations. We don't have the population, resources, or geography to gain power in the same manner as China or India. We have to be ingenuitive and creative in our journey to economic, political, and social liberation.
(Wow, I realized I'm ranting.)
The culture of the Philippines is unique. Truthfully, our culture is a synthesis of cultures. Filipinos are generally part Chinese, part Malay, part Spanish, and some even part American. Because of our location, we've always been a major trading post....accumulating the cultures of several places.
But that conglomeration of cultures IS our culture, and it's something that makes us extremely unique. Definitely something to proud of. Just because we don't have our own homogenous culture like the Chinese or Koreans doesn't mean you should refute it. Honestly, I think the Filipino culture has many qualities that are much more admirable than other Asian countries. I won't get into that; I'm biased, and I don't want to start a flame war.

hey tapestrybabe... what's the deal with this whole side rant? first of all, i believe it is YOU who initiated the closing of those rants of mine. if there was something you wanted to say, you should've said it in context. because when you spoke to me, you actually said some really nice and appropriate things that were seemingly of friendly discussion. i'm a little shocked to see this here from you... esp after you even private messaged me info on how to represent korean adoptees with my art. i guess it's easy to jump on someone's back when they're not necessarily looking... *sighs* and i guess you missed the whole point of anything i already said in there, defending that i am not like that absurd paragraph you wrote a couple back...
anyway, ON TOPIC and to the original poster: sorry to hear you're feeling this way about yourself and the country you're from. hell... america's going through so much political BS that I'M embarrassed when i travel to say i'm from america... but hey, you are NOT all the negative parts of your country, just like nobody is all of a place they reside in. maybe you should consider seeking out some of the positive aspects of your country and celebrate/highlight them? if you're worried that everyone only sees the negatives, stop dwelling on them and show them the positives. the thing is, you will always be from the phillipines... there will always be things to bother you anywhere you go... so it's best to find ways to make peace with yourself and maybe try to shift your own perspectives a bit.
good luck.
I'm not an adoptee so I don't really know what it's like but sometimes I wonder if some of the negative feelings towards Korea and its people comes from the adoptive parents... I knew a couple of Korean adoptees growing up and I distinctly remember one of their parents talking about how horrible Korea was and how it was only through the power of Almight Lord Jesus that this child was taken away to the Holy Land AKA America, etc.

of course its not the same thing. i dont have an inferiority complex like that girl. such a complex is a sociological-psychological problem.
all i can do is think my closest experience which is feeling foreign in another country. i had a homestay with a filipino family before. my homestay family was very cool and i learned many detailed things i never know before. they took me to many events like a member of the family, they even gave me a filipino name, so i didnt feel like a "guest". like i even had do "la mano" custom to homestay grandparents. that was cool! but outside of that family other people in the city called me "ang hapun" (the japanese). i didnt understand what this meant until later. interestingly to myself, i tried get a tan because i wanted to look like everyone else. i managed to pass as a filipino sometimes because sometimes people would talk to me in tagalog. but mostly they could tell i was japanese. plus my crappy tagalog didnt help. interestingly i tried to tell everyone that 2000 years ago the Ryuukyuu ancestors in Japan may have came from indigenous people of Taiwan and Philippines according to some Japanese archeological theories. Interestingly, some people laughed at that. I didnt have an inferiority complex, but it was a feeling of wanting to be accepted as part the group of everyone else. though im definitely happy to be Japanese and dont want to change like that girl does.

It's no different from how some APA's like to make fun of FOBs.

I'm not an adoptee so I don't really know what it's like but sometimes I wonder if some of the negative feelings towards Korea and its people comes from the adoptive parents...
i would say there are a-parents out there...
who would end up trying to prevent
their kid from learning their cultural background...
due to thinking they're not really korean (or whatever ethnic
background they are)...
i'm not saying all, but there are a- parents
like those that do exists...
anyways, just to clarify...
i over reacted in my long winded
previous rant...
sometimes i guess its difficult
for me to step into someone elses shoes...
but for some, that feeling of rejection
from ones country is real...
for some, its hard to reconcile the feelings
of being given up for adoption...
on top of having to face such racism, rejection
amongst other korean nationals...
pride in ones origion, its ppl, culture...
is something some adoptees may not end up
wanting to fully embrace...
just wanted to clarify myself...
since i know a lot of other kads lurk here...
and i guess what i'm saying...
sometimes i have to step back and remind myself...
when it comes to the asian adoptee experience
were not all the same, but we vary so much...

Waitaminit...what's the point of being around them if you're just spending all your money/cash on yourself? Can't you do that alone?

All guys here are dickheads. But japanese and korean guys are dickheads too! I guess dickheads are everywhere! :( but the most numbered of dickheads in asia are filipino! haha . I wish i am not a filipino!I would love to get born again in a different race!
Wow u are one f-cked up individual.
Please....I too wish u weren't filipino.
I wouldn't trade being filipino for anything else.
Filipino culture has gone too liberated??? since when, the country is f-cked up right now because of individuals like u who don't care about fellow filipinos. Please don't hate on a culture that u never practice.
Filipino culture is deeper then you think.
Just take a look at the proud Moro and T'boli people to see what filipino culture was really like, before the Spanish came.
Ha ha u are one sad individual...
