Do Pacific Islanders consider Indian people Asian?

I in fact, am East Indian, and was living in a community where there weren't that many Asians, So I was considered Asian. Recently, I moved to a community where there are more Asian people, but the school I attend now does not have that many East Indian people. However, half the population is Pacific Islander Asian. Up until now, I condsidered myself Asian, and was proud of being Asian. When I went to the new school, I quickly found out all the Pacific Islanders didn't consider Indians Asian. In fact, I got told by one of my Pacific Islander friends that her Pacific Islander crowd doesn't consider Indians Asian. Also, when the term "Asian" is used, most people don't consider Indian Asians. This is making me question my identity, and I am pretty confused now about whether I am "Asian" or not.
