AAJC Demands that CBS Reprimands Radio Host for Mocking Asian Americans
Washington, DC, Jan. 27, 2006 – The Asian American Justice Center (AAJC) today expressed outrage over the insensitive and racist segment in the Jan. 24 radio show of Adam Carolla mocking the Asian
Excellence Awards, which will be aired on AZN Television this Sunday, Jan. 29.
“Adam Carolla demeaned the work of Asian American actors, directors, and producers and perpetuated the stereotype of Asian Americans as foreigners,” said Karen K. Narasaki, president and
executive director of the Asian American Justice Center (AAJC).
“Unless Adam Carolla is strongly reprimanded, and the station and CBS Radio apologize, we will be forced to ask advertisers to withdraw their support of his show.”
The Adam Carolla Show, aired through CBS Radio’s 97.1 Free FM (KLSX-FM) in Los Angeles, referred to the Asian Excellence Awards as a joke and repeatedly used the sounds “ching-chong” in recreating a segment of the awards, which were actually done in English. The Adam Carolla Show is aired in 10 West Coast cities that have the largest Asian American populations in the U.S.
The Asian (AX) Excellence Awards honors Asian Americans in media who have made a difference in the United States. The awards will also pay a special tribute to the late actor, Pat Morita.
AAJC is encouraging people to call or email the following CBS Radio executives:
• Joel Hollander, chairman and chief executive officer, CBS Radio, tel: 212-846-3939, email:
joel.hollander@infinitybroadcasting.com
• Dana L. McClintock, senior vice president, CBS Communications Group, tel: 212-975-1077,
email: dlmcclintock@cbs.com

AAJC’s affiliate, the Asian Pacific American Legal Center of Southern California, and other organizations like the Korean American Coalition of Los Angeles, and the Media Action Network for Asian Americans, have also criticized the Adam Carolla Show.

Adam Corolla has always had something against asians. On Loveline he would throw out snide little attacks against asians out of the blue. I don't know what his problem is maybe he's just a tremendous asshole who seems to get his kicks out of making fun of asians.

yeah, i've always thought he was just another insecure person who got lucky because he makes other people unashamed for their immaturities.
i also feel that for awhile, people in america were afraid of being condemned so they went overboard on being 'politically correct'. and then came the crew who raged against that whole thing and went as 'un-PC' as you can get, just to prove how macho are cool they were, that they were the nonconformists. they all suck. ;-)

There's a difference between being un-PC and being a 19th century racist.

Actually, I finally got around to listening to the clip... I can't believe in this day and age that he'd actually air a clip of "Asians" going "ching-chong-chong..." That was just unnecessary.

Corolla has made a career out of smack talk. You notice even his character on Drawn Together takes jabs at Asians on a constant basis.

is it just me, or does adam corolla have naturally squintier eyes than most asians? maybe he got teased that he was asian when he was younger and now he's taking his revenge! haha, kidding! too much serious talk earlier on ;-) but seriously, that clip is offensive to me, and i usually let a certain amount of racism slide if it's equal opportunity bashing–like david chappelle... when you know that he's making a point of how silly it looks to be racist.

Wow! How dissapointing. I never got a chance to see him on the man show, and I really liked his Adam Corolla Project on TLC. But I've totally just lost my respect for him.

That's the point though, Dave Chappelle is making it blatant that he's making fun of racism while this guy is straight up just being a racist.

Definitely wasn't an accident, if he ever formally apologizes. If he truly felt he had to go there in order to get some laffs, it's usually the start of the ending due to lack of imagination.
Whatever the reason, someone needs to pull this sucker's card like right now. That's some stupid-assed grade schooler shit right there and even at that age, you'd get your wig knocked back for saying it.

I used to think it was just a one-time issue with him if he would randomly spout off about any race in general.
"Damn Asians!" "Damn Mexicans!" "Damn Arabs!"
However, he seems to have an ongoing issue with racist statements against Asians I'm thinking that it's something deeper such as a full blown racist against Asian people.

Meh. Adam Carolla again. He was always annoying and Banana is right, he seems to have a beef with Asians in general.
Does anyone else think he looks like a neanderthal?
I'm disappointed to find out that he does one of the characters on Drawn Together.

Can this be? An apology from the mouth of Adam Carolla? Yes. Though it seems far from sincere. On Wednesday this week, just after 8:00am, Carolla apologized on the air for the "Ching Chong" skit, with the following remarks:
A quick of business to take care of. An apology to the Asian community. We did a bit a few weeks back that offended many people. It was unintended to offend these people. We do a show here that is a little irreverent and sometimes we cross the line and we definitely crossed it this time. And it was not meant to offend. It did. And for that we sincerely apologize to the good people of the Asian community. So we apologize and we thank you for your support.
I've got an audio clip of the apology here (.mp3, 1.49 MB). While the clip lasts about a minute, the apology itself only takes up around half that. What do you think? Sincere? Sounds pretty half-assed to me. No doubt, a directive from the suits, in order to quell the threat of ad withdrawals. Carolla and crew will probably lay off the Asian jokes for a little while, but sooner or later it'll back to business as usual... In the meantime, the damage of the "Ching Chong" schtick has been done. That's racist!

This is completely 100% unfiltered racist crap. I can't believe I actually liked Corolla the few times a listened to Loveline.
^ yeah, same here. but then i stopped cuz his whiny, nasally voice really annoyed me. honestly though, when i did listen to him, i never heard him say anything racist about asians.

adam corolla was never funny. he would say outrageous stuff, but constantly was inept at telling jokes. he tries hard to be like howard stern, but goddamn is he retarded at jokes. even craig kilbourne has his moments, and that guy is unfunny.
