We had a good group today, about 25 of us. Went upstate NY to shoot each other up with paintballs. This was my first time, and I had a blast.
We had three different sessions. First one was capture the flag, in the woods. This was by far the most fun. There were rock walls to hide behind, logs, a rock hill to snipe from and lots and lots of trees. I even captured the flag on the second game winning the game for our team Woo-hoo! Then we went to an Urban location with 2 story buildings and lots of smaller buildings. That was cool too, but a little more boring since people got pinned down and were too scared to move. Lastly there was the speed round, where we were stuck on a small field with wooden structures to hide behind. They were small, so you really had to crouch to stay protected. All in all, it was a great time!
Has anybody else ever played? What'd you think?

Haven't done paintball, but have played LaserTag in a group a few times. It's a little pricey to play around here, that's the main drawback. In general, there are too many wimps that just hide in one spot to avoid any action.

Oh yes indeedy, but I don't often like the environment or the people. I heard one place had what they thought was a replica of a Vietnam village or something. If I go with a group I know well I have a great time.
Hey, what part of upstate NY did ya go to? :o

We were in Newburgh, about an hour and a half north of NYC. We had a group of 25 people with us, so we all knew each other, it was a good time. Some of these guys were no joke, a few had those automatic ones that kept spitting em out as long as you held the trigger. They had ammo packs, holsters, customized guns and visors., I mean, you'd think they were gearing up for a real war.
Those paintballs can sting, and if it's cold, they won't break, they just hurt more!
oooh.. paintball. :)
most likely those customized guns weren't fully automatic, but probably just had a really short trigger pull - like 1-2 mm. I could churn out 7+ shots a second with the Automag I used to have. Those days of competitve paintball back in college made me really trigger happy. I think I once churned out 800 shots in a recreational game - damn those ammo packs. Oh well, accuracy by volume ;)

Sure thing! Maybe we can start a new event? YW paintball! By the way, I'm an idiot, this should have gone to the sports section, but it seemed like the party section was so quiet...
NY has a ton of great schools, I actually went to SUNY Albany, which is upstate. It's funny cause, it's surrounded by a lot of open rural areas, then boom, there's the city in the middle of no where. Hard to believe that this is the capital of NY!

Albany was ranked as the #1 party school in the nation a few years back. Hehe I went up there in when I was in college to party. Dang, they be the wildest up there.

Yup, that's when I was there. It was nuts. They've cracked down on the greek system, but it hasn't really slowed the partying down. I was prez of my frat one year, we were ranked 3rd best fraternity on campus, 1st best to party with.
I played in High School (88-92), in the Guard once (94) and a little in college (97ish). I own some paintguns, but they've been collecting dust for about 5 years cause I haven't played in a long time. I like it alot. And a lot of the soldier would rather use paintballs instead of the stupid blanks and laser we use now. I may bring the guns here cause I can afford to indulge again ;)

when i went i didn't get hurt much because most of the balls popped on contact liek they're supposed to. when one didn't pop it hurt like nutter. But that wasn't as bad as when my friend, who was right next to me when it happened, got shot cuz he came out with a huge lump on his forehead that looked like an unborn twin.

I used to go paintballing very often. I essentially stopped my senior year of HS because I could no longer find the time for it, and it was getting quite expensive along with my girlfriend(s). It's definitely a blast, though.

i love paintball especially when played in the woods.. my mum used to pack me up really tight so that no skin would show. i had the whole thing, the googles, suit, and 2 paintball guns. i still have em now. it's considered a weapon here. had lots of trouble trying to bring it back and in through customs. but yeah, i now use it to shoot jerks in the nuts

Yeah, I kick ass in the woods. In the urban settings I keep getting creamed, but when I can slink about in the underbrush, I rock. It's too cold to play now, but I'm looking forward to playing again in the spring. I was thinking about getting my own gun and gear, but it's mad exspensive, and I can't afford to waste any more money on yet another hobby. Besides, I won't get time to play if I can't tear myself away from this damn computer and YW.

ehh well it's usually good to go with a group man
unless you really want to play free for all with strangers
with team games it's better to know your teammates personally
first and foremost you need gear or you can be cheap and ill equipped and rent
avoid any guns over the $200 mark until you've gotten fairly good
you need loaders, barrels, and whatnot
with the protective stuff you can just rent
with ammo ehh just about any will do unless you are really going for top notch

I've done it. It's a lot of fun, good for team-building exercises and that sorta crap. The time I went though was with a group of friends, about 20 guys or so. Our first session we were divided up with a bunch of other backwood nuts who had paintball machine guns, I kid you not. Our next session we were able to have an area all to ourselves. It was kinda funny because somehow everyone got killed -- except for me and my friend on the other team. We were sorta stuck behind rocks about five feet opposite of each other, like some scene outta Police Squad, and my gun jammed. Apparently, one of the rules of paintballin' is that you can "capture" your enemy without shooting him, so with a loud cry, I got out from behind my rock and charged him.
Got nailed in the side of my head.

I personally didn't see any of the guns up close. I just remember hiding behind a tree and hearing the sound of someone's gun discharge automatically, followed by screams.

yeah scream are a given
in this case you should rely on stealth and accuracy
try not to fire too much cause each shot gives away your position
either move around quietly and try to get behind them or have a good camping spot with sufficient cover
having a few paint boms/grenades can help too
err do you have your own equip?

So the Vietnam vets went up against you and your asian friends? Didn't that make you a little uncomfortable? Were they trying to hurt you guys?
yes. we looked like little smurfs in sweatshirts and jeans. they were in army gear. it was in the woods. AND the majority of us were girls- freshman year in college. they were old men - probably in their 40's to 50's.
before going in, the referees would check the pressure on each person's machine gun (basically theirs, b/c we just had lame shotguns). as soon as the referee was finished, though, they would turn the pressure up on their guns (i'm not sure if i'm using the correct terms)...
anyhow, when you surrender, e.g., raise your arms, the other side is supposed to refrain from shooting. during the first round, we all surrendered one by one b/c we were so damn scared. despite the fact that we would have our hands raised above our heads, they would shoot over and over. they broke my friend's finger.
during the next rounds, some of us were angrier and more aggressive. i even cheated...going out of boundaries to get to their fort. my friend kat and i were just about to take it over when we felt two guns held to our head. we looked at each other and thought, "shit, we should surrender." and so we did. and were shot point blank in the head several times. those bruises lasted a while.
the referee sucked. our guns sucked. the place sucked. we were about to give up our savings to purchase machine guns on the spot to take revenge on those guys. ...but we left early instead.

that shits not cool..
things like that really piss me off....
I wouldn't have just shot them
I would have bludgeoned them with the paintball rifle
over and over
take their 1000 dollar POS "look i have a big dick because my rifle hurts people"
gun and break it in half.
shooting over and over like that isn't right at all
I swear i would have had their blood on my hands if it was me
where is this place by the way.
I think me and my friends need to show them a few things.
