I have seen Kairo. Totally unscary, and the DVD jacket art seems unrelated to the film. Shinji Takeda pops up for a totally pointless cameo too.

It was alright. I got the Kairo VCD a while back as a 3-for-1deal. It was a bit murky to follow, but kinda kicks in at certain points. There's a lot of hoo-hah over it now, saying it's the scariest thing out, but it was actually made five years ago, before the current J-horror wave...and the people over here dragged their asses on distribution. There was supposed to be an American remake in the pipeline but I think it got nixed.

One plus about this joint is that it doesn't do the spooky-girl-with-long-stringy-hair thing. Also Koji Yakusho makes a cameo.

Just got back from it. Not hardcore scary, just unsettling scary, if that. Ends on the typical "end of the world" type thing that most japanese horror tends to do. They must be obsessed with that.
