"Celebrity boxing did monster rating numbers a few years ago. It now appears a proposed Joe Rogan vs Wesley Snipes fight could do the same. There was buzz of this rumor on several forums today and MMAWeekly.com has had this confirmed in the past hour. MMAWeekly Radio Host Frank Trigg talked briefly with Joe Rogan this afternoon to see if there was any truth to the rumor."It's 100% true..." Rogan told Trigg via the telephone. "I want the fight and now it's up to Wesley Snipes to accept." Snipes is a black belt in tae kwon doe and has trained in martial arts for years studying Karate, Kung Fu and Capoeira.
Rogan was a four-time state Tae kwon do champion before pursuing a career in show business. Rogan earned a black belt at 15 after just two years of training. At 19 he won the US Open Tae Kwon Do Championship, and later as a lightweight champion went on to beat both the middle and heavyweight title-holders to obtain the Grand Championship.Rogan also trains regularly with submission specialist Eddie Bravo.
Rogan said on the Underground Forum earlier in the day quote "As for Snipes motivation to fight, he wants to rejuvenate his action movie career..." Other motivation for Snipes is the fact that he owes millions of dollars in back taxes. Snipes hasn't had any new movie offers and needs to pay back taxes and hopes this kind of fight could re-launch his career. If you ask how they can afford to pay celebrities to fight, one of the possibilities that is out there is to give the Celebes a small percentage of the deal from the actual pay per view.
Rogan would not comment how much money was offered to him for the potential fight. The UFC had no comment about the story as they are preparing for this weekend's pay per view for UFC 56. At this stage only one party has agreed to the fight, but Snipes was very interested in the fight, as he is a huge fan of the UFC. In order for this fight to happen, Snipes has to agree to the deal as Rogan has already accepted the proposed fight. The other part of the equation is whether they both can pass the Nevada State Athletic Commission's official physical. If they can do both of these things, then this fight could happen sometime in 2006."

You know, I think I'd want to see that fight. I had no idea Snipes' career and financial situation was so far down the shitter. Then again, I didn't know Rogan was a badass.
Snipes should fire his agent for allowing him to do this. It's only going to put him in the Tonya Harding-desperate category. Which is part of the reason I would like to watch the Snipes-Rogan match.

my money is on joe rogan over nestle snipes.
i've hung out a few times with this year's welterweight runner up on spike tv's ultimate fighter reality show, luke cummo. i've heard from luke and his training staff that rogan is pretty adept in the ring.

Rogan's half-brother Bryan Callen is a fighter/martial artist as well. I think I'd put my money on Rogan. He looks like he can take hits. Snipes might have prettier moves but I'm not sure he could take more than one real hit.
Snipes trains (or trained) in Hapkido at the same studio as some of my friends (http://www.bongsoohanhapkido.com/). I'm not sure how advanced Snipes is but at least one of my friends there could probably kick his ass. Of course, boxing and Hapkido arts are two different things.
My money's on Rogan.

well my money would be on snipes if and only if the ring was poorly lit and as a result rogan can't see what he's swinging at unless wesley smiles at him.

Please. A black belt at 15?
Did he get that at Tiger Schulman's?

Wesley used to be cool. And an A-lister. I don't know what the fuck happened to him. *in granny voice* "I told you about messin' with them asian wimmen, boy!"
Oh wait, is this going to go down UFC style instead of boxing? That changes things, but Rogan still seems like he'd be a better wrestler/fighter on the ground.

I haven't heard anything about Snipes owing back taxes, but he once tried to file for a $7 million tax refund:

Poor guy, how is one expected to live on a measly $12 million (after taxes) a year???

He should have gone less the born-again Asian route and stuck with action movies in general. You know. Always bet on black, etc. I was hoping before he became geriatric and well, crazier, [Marvel's] Black Panther was going to make it out of development hell with Snipes in the role.
Oh yeah, and I hope Rogan wipes the floor with his sorry ass for Blade:Trinity. Way to tank a good series.
But he was also a good sport in To Wong Foo.

. I had no idea Snipes' career and financial situation was so far down the shitter.
There was an LA Times article that talked about how badly Snipes career has been recently, especially when it once seemed that he was going to be the next Denzel Washington. Instead, he lost his mansion to foreclosure and his former agent sued him for overdue debt, and the only news we were hearing from him was from a crack adict filing a paternity lawsuit against him.
One of the reasons it mentioned for his downfall was that Snipes had alienated his loyal following, african american women, with his public professions for asian women and turning his back on any black events. I know that Martino got bitchy with me for the suggestion that the private life of an actor will affect his career, but it does seem like that might have played a role with Snipes' career.
It seems to be common knowledge about his asiaphilla. I was watching a comedy bit last night with Method Man, and Snipes' love for asian women was one of the jokes. I could understand why african american women would turn their backs on him.

It's a toss up. boxing is different from mma-and from what i've seen of rogan's commentary he knows a lot more about submission than throwing punches.
