"Asians worship David Beckham"

I'm sick and tired of hearing imbecilic stories about how Asians treat David Beckham like a god. It's so embarrassing and brings back images of European colonialism in Asia. Who are these idiots who keep perpetuating these stories? On VH-1, I saw that Thai monks built a gold altar with Beckham's face on it. WTF? He's just a famous soccer player, and there are plenty better than he is.

Of course, Asians, like most of the world, have an unhealthy fixation with celebrities. This just may be a case of the West trying to portray Asians as eternally subservient, when in fact David Beckham is treated just like how any hot Asian star would be treated. I've heard crazy stories about fans and what they do to their Asian idols.

Seriously, it's not enough that celebrities (not just Beckham) are paid handsomely for being in movies, releasing albums and/or being professional athletes. After all of that, we place them up on pedestals, treating them like royalty and giving a shit what they wear and what's going on in their personal lives. Why the hell do we care about them so much? And then this trickles over to wannabe celebrities, who've never done shit worth celebrating, like Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. WTF?! It's sickening.

And I'm not really sure if Asians are more prone to have these sick fixations than others, but it certainly looks like it when you see shit on the news. Wealthy Asians do seem to be some of the biggest label whores that I've seen (which I view as a form of superficiality and materialism) so it wouldn't surprise me.

I think the British are the worst when it comes to celebrity worship. Just look at their tabloids, which must only exist because of public demand.

I think the fact that Beckham is white makes the whole idea of asian idolatry a notch more absurd than the celebrity obsessed british tabloids. It adds that taboo factor-which gets extra attention from certain people.

BTW, that story of that japanese girl licking every toilet in the hotel Beckham was staying in was just fricking gold. Now THAT'S a fan.
