Nowadays, with so many cell phones out there, you have virtually hundreds of choices. Which one did you choose? What service are you using? Have you customized your phone (accessories)? What complaints do you have?
I'll start, I'm on a Motorola, i90c. The service is Nextel. The only add-ons I have is a magnetic holder in my car, and a headset.
The service is pretty good, no complaints so far, the direct connect feature is pretty cool. It's a little pricey, but other then that I'm pretty happy.

i use a nokia 8390 pretty cool. battery stays up pretty long. only bad thing is that it's too small and too light. you might juss lose it without realizing it

Sanyo SCP-4700 (Sprint service), no customization. Add-ons, car charger and 3 earpieces (hands free sets), 1 for home, 1 for the car and 1 for work. I got the hands free sets before I got this current phone. Cheap phone, but I like the speakerphone option which is great for when you get a phone call when you're driving, etc.
I used to have phones from Nokia (switched service after contract was over), Motorola Star-Tac (busted after about a year) and Samsung (lost).

Nokia 8890. Comes with earpiece. I have three chargers (two I found from work, lol) and one extra battery. The only thing I don't like about it is that it does not have broadband internet for when I visit my friends' weekend house. It's a good phone but Cingular is not as good as when it was PacBell Wireless. Cingular used to be TERRIBLE. I might opt for another Nokia because I like the easy-to-use menus but only if I can get broadband and a wire to connect to my laptop.

i have 3 phones and 2 services.
service cingular: sucks cock and always drops calls
-Phone 1: nokia 8890: i have 4 batteries for this, 1 desk charger, 2 travel charger, 1 spare outer casing (OEM baby), ok phone hard to see sumtimes in daytime. #3 first 2 died.
-Phone 2: nokia 8290: ditto cept i got a travel charger, spare motherboard from a damaged screen phone of a friend, and sum nice water damage they say so they wont warrantee it, and the famous 8000 series vanishing screen. #2 first one died.
service verizon: better but not that great but least it works in my house.
-Motorola V60i: good phone light and pretty durable

I had previously lost a couple of the ear piece sets, so I just decided to keep one in my desk at work, to have one in my car, and another at my desk at my apartment. By keeping each earpiece set in one location I virtually eliminated any chance of losing it by simple things like it falling out of my jacket pocket, etc. I thought it would save money over the long run instead of having to buy the hands free set everytime I lost one.
Just got me a 8265 to replace my worn out 8260. It's not as cool as the GSM version, but it's nice nonetheless. I like the bright white illumination.
I'm with AT&T and have been for the past five years...

i remain stubbornly low tech and that's the way I like it. no PDA, minidisc player, or digital camera. up until 3 months ago I didn't even have a computer of my own. so I use a nokia 6185 (but at least with the thin battery, rather than the manufacturer-supplied block-like thing) back in the US. dark blue panasonic gd90 over here in HK - it has amazing functions like being able to both send and receive calls. gotta love the new modern technology. oh yeah and I can change the backlight color between bright green and bright orange. This phone is very popular in impoverished former Communist-bloc countries - just do a Google search (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22panasonic+gd90%22) on it, all the results are in Slavic languages.

Don't the Panasonic phones at least have the "polyphonic" ringtones (i.e., synthesized or sampled sounds)? That's one thing I wanted in my next phone. Guess I'll hafta wait... Why's Sprint get all the really cool phones?!

I know for some of the phones you could simply upload midi files directly from your computer. That basically meant unlimited free ringtones, with synthesized or sampled sounds. Too cool.
Now, I just want my Mario Bros., Ms. Pac Man and Inspector Gadget ringtones back... Anyone know any free sites to obtain ringtones for AT&T?

ah, the color screen phones.
the t68i from sony ericsson is a pretty decent phone. reports of it are across the board. its one of those phones i recommend to never drop or it may die on you. other than that, the clarity is good. it's a GSM phone too, so if GSM service (ie, cingular, at&t gsm, voicestream, t-mobile, etc) in your area is good, it's a phone to check out.
the t66 though, if you can find it, is even cooler in my book. it weighs 2.08oz, making it one of the lightest phones on this side of the hemisphere.
the t720... for verizon, is... okay. it's expensive as all hell and the battery life wimps out fast. but it has get-it-now (BREW), 3G support, and of course is beautiful...
but, it's still a cellphone, and color screens aren't a big deal in my book.
I use a Samsung SCH-A310 with verizon. Lovin' it. the polymorphic ring tones are kinda stupid now that i think about it, but in no time, with the USB cable, there'll be some sorta hack to put your own 'tones on. Mobile web on this phone r0x your s0x... it's making me interested in learning XML to write WAP friendly versions of my sites...
i have a sony ericsson t68i right now and i love it. :nerd:

I currently have a Motorola V60c with Verizon. Still have the SF number even though I live in Jersey now. I used to have Cingular in SF. It sucked bad. I had a Nokia 8190, but after about a year the display started freaking out. Not the blank display problem, but the display started scrolling. I'd go to, for instance, settings, and it would scroll left to right. It was very strange. Prior to that was a Nokia 6185 with Sprint. Before that was a Nokia 252 analog phone. Also used a Nokia 232 and a Motorola pre-Startac something or other. It was so long ago.
I've yet to find great service anywhere. And the phones in the U.S. are so inferior to the phones in Asia.

you know you can get korea imported cell phones from koreatown and have them set up with verizon, I would do this but I hate verizon.
I agree on the quality of phones here, I bought a prepaid phone from tokyo, it was 60 bucks, and blows the pants off of anything availible here, its only indiglo monochrome, has most of the useless features like downloadable ringtones, screen saver, desktop wallpaper, but its super slim, battery life lasts about a week inna half, I think its made by panasonic, it looks like the thinnest panasonic allure phone here, but thinner, and the buttons are are more eye candy friendly.

I doubt you'd want a vertu, even if you have cash to burn.
the concierge service doesn't mean much cause if you have that kind of money your credit cards (i.e. American Express Centurion Black Card, Visa Signature, and Mastercard World Card) would already have them for you and their conceirge service does all.
Having the vertu's concierge service is almost like a downgrade. You could just as easily get a nice phone and put a platinum cover on it and still look bling and be smart at the same time.
Yes, it looks good and is tasteful but why bother.

I think it has more to do with the prestige, to fake it would be like wearing a fake Rolex, true most of us wouldn't know the difference, but you would. The people who try to impress with money, wouldn't go with a phony no matter how smart it was.

Up until august, I had been using Sprint and was using this silver Samsung SCH-8500. It was pretty damn sweet when I first got it, cuz it just came out, and used it for over 2 years. Then I realized I didn't really need it, and killed my service. But I think if I kept with the service, I probably would still use it for another 2 to 3 years.
My lil' bro on the other hand... *shakes his head* has this really nifty looking phone by LG called the SPS LG5350. And he's looking to replace it soon with a Samsung SPS SCHA500. And b4 that, he had another mobile from Samsung that pretty much has all the stuff these other bad boys had, but decided to change it.

I personally wouldn't do prestige if it wrote the word stupid on my forehead
screw prestige
I want my gizmos and gadgets
besides the vertu is horrible on features compared to the new phones (for example no camera feature whatsoever, no color screen, etc.) that are always coming out in asia
why not get one of those imported in instead
as I said the concierge service of the vertus are limited in comparison to those included by the super credit cards I just mentioned
o sure the vertu has a nifty little side button to reach it
I'll just have American express in my phone book and voice dial them when I want to instead thank you very much

anyway, bunboy can you get t-mobile?
then we can text message each other. ALL DAY LONG!
the US is behind in that they're only introducing SIM cards now
that's how it's been in asia
that way you can switch carrier without having to get a new phone

After owning nothing but Motorolas and Nokias, I now have the Samsung S105. This is definitely one of the nicer color GSM phones out there. All flip-phone people would love this phone.

yeah my bro has the samsung s105, he loves it. i was gonna get it too, but you know, god forbid we both have the same phone. he's such a freak.
I also have the T720 from Verizon. Got it because of the $100 rebate. My problem with it is the speaker isn't loud enough. Especially when I walk around on the street in NYC, often times I can't hear the other person. Anyone else have that problem? Verizon definitely has the best service in NYC though.

The three cellphones I've had seemed kinda low when I was walking around NYC. They were all motorolas.
Thanks for the input quik.

Did you have the StarTac 7868? I loved that phone, even though by today's standards it's as heavy as a brick. But the overall quality was great.
Verizon currently has a trade-in rebate deal with the LG VX4400 that ends in a few days. I don't know how good this phone is though.

I don't know if anyone had mentioned this earlier but if you want to switch carriers between the US and Asia with the same phone then you want to look for a tri-ban phone. That way you can just replace the GSM chip and you're good to go.
Did I just say that?

Plenty of people in Chicago have it. 2 of my close friends have had it for about 2 months now, and sometimes my brother uses one 'cause he gets to use any phone he wants since he works at T-Mobile. My friends love it even though it isn't really convenient to use as a phone, but rather for internet, IM and texting.

I just got the Motorola V60 thru Sprint but cancelled it since the signal was too weak. I couldn't hear shit and the person on the other line couldn't hear shit. i absolutely hate cell phones.
i would go as far as sayin that i hate cell phones even more then i hate regular phones.
i mean, think about it.
before they put the internet, music, games, custom and/or funky ringtones, color screens, cameras, text msging, etc. they should make it so that a cell phone can effectively communicate with another phone.
eg: when you speak on a cell phone, you sound something like the following:
yeah.........ad.............s......you know...........so..............if..............the a............crusti..........am.......k?
what i hate even more about cell phones is that companies are taking advantage of the fact that cellphones have shitty reception, and are selling cell phone reception boosters.
GOD i hate phones.
phones of anykind.
they frustrate me.

I need a cellphone. I'm always out and about and my parents keep wanting to keep tabs on me. If I had a phone, it would be so muc easier than having them asking for friend's phone numbers all the time. I know that they don't want to pay a lot. I might be getting a job soon (hopefully, and if I do, I'll pay for it). But anyway, what are some good deals? Good plans? Good service?

Nowadays, with so many cell phones out there, you have virtually hundreds of choices. Which one did you choose? What service are you using? Have you customized your phone (accessories)? What complaints do you have?
I'll start, I'm on a Motorola, i90c. The service is Nextel. The only add-ons I have is a magnetic holder in my car, and a headset.
The service is pretty good, no complaints so far, the direct connect feature is pretty cool. It's a little pricey, but other then that I'm pretty happy.
It's all through work -- a Nokia with AT&T service.
Had personal cell phone service for a Motorola, but found that I did not use it enough to justify the monthly charge.
I get a kick out of the folks that do use their cells everywhere. Why, just yesterday, I'm getting ready to use the work terlet and there's some guy mumbling in the next stall. Turns-out he's quietly muttering on his cell to someone else.
Pleeeeease. Can't you wait until you're finished? Must be talented enough to poop and use the cell at the same time.

I have the T68i and I'm in the same boat as pip; I have a bluetooth phone I don't know how to use very well. Although I did jump on AIM with it during lunch one day. That was painstaking to type on my phone. There's MMS capability on it but I haven't had the time to learn to use it.
Nice phone though.
I just ordered a T68i a few days ago. Got it for 99 bucks, and I'll be getting a $100 rebate when I send them proof of service activation.
What attracted me was that it was Bluetooth Wireless enabled. I'll be getting a wireless headset to go with it. I'm not exactly a Bluetooth expert, but I can usually figure things out if left to my own devices. From all the documentation I've read, you must either have a Bluetooth adapter on your computer or an Infrared port to have the two devices communicating. The wireless headset is a little different. In order for you to be able to use it, you must pair the two devices together by holding down the power button a little bit longer while turning ont he phone. That puts it in pairing mode, and all you'd need is a charged device ready to be seen by the phone. After it recognizes the device, it usually asks for a PIN number (by default, Bluetooth devices the PIN is typically 0000). After that, you should be good to go....
How do you and Pip like your phones? I'm subscribing to T-Mobile, and I hope they won't disappoint me. This is my first mobile phone in almost a decade. For the longest time I was strictly opposed to cell phones. Then one day I was going to be coming home late, and had no way of contacting the wifey. Let's just say it would make the both of us feel better if I had my own phone.....

This is not a problem in smaller countries. The USA is so huge, the sheer number of towers required for flawless reception everywhere is too large to make it worth it. Also, ATT phones don't work on Sprint towers and vice versa, because the cell phone companies in the USA don't want to help each other out. Therefore in the USA they build 4 towers next to each other. This is a waste.
Japan and Korea on the other hand are perfectly wired for cellular reception in even rural areas. Each company divided the country into parts where they will build towers, and then they let all the companies use them. Cell phones even work on the subway here!!!
If I tried to talk on my cell in the USA inside a building, it had serious problems.

I, too, dislike mobile telephones intensely. I find that they've become a status symbol of sorts nowadays with the "well-to-do" having some flashy new device that still performs the same job it's intended to do (i.e. telephone people.) I have a Sony Ericsson T200 myself and would gladly dispense with it if I could. But I'm worried that if in the event I find myself trapped in a well and pinned by a rock (or something along similar lines) I'd have no recourse to obtain aid without a mobile. Then again, the reception probably wouldn't be all that marvelous at the bottom of a well, now will it?
Bottom line, I don't believe in parting with an absurb amount of cash for a mobile. It makes me uncomfortable spending that much money on myself.

No, bluetooth is a wireless technology that can also let you connect your phone to your computer (provided it has a bluetooth adapter). You can send files/contacts/pictures/ringtones to and from the phone.

Nice! But the Audiovox name is forever tainted in my mind. My girlfriend's old-school Audiovox didn't even alphabetize the phonebook!! Hilarious. This was many years back though. Probably one of their earlier attempts at cell phones...

Problem is GSM service sucks out in Santa Monica.=(
I'm still using my ol' TDMA Nokia 8265 (AT&T) until I can figure out what to upgrade to. I need to go Bluetooth so I can integrate the phone with my car. Unfortunately, only the GSM carriers offer a wide variety of Bluetooth phones. Verizon's only got one or two (Moto v600, v710). But the Sony Ericssons integrate the best with the car... What to do, what to do...=P

Yeah, the planner on this phone is horrible, but other than that, the phonebook's not too bad. it's actually pretty good. No complains with this phone yet.
So I finally did an insurance swap on my phone. Since the 8265 is discontinued, they gave me a refurbished Nokia 6560 which is basically the same phone albeit marginally smaller with a higher res color screen, IR port, picture viewing capabilities and polyphonic ringtones. It also technically has web browsing capabilities, but AT&T does not support data services beyond text messaging for TDMA service. Good thing for the IR port or I wouldn't even be able to take advantage of the imaging or sound features since, without data capabilities, the IR port is the only way to load files onto the phone.
This "new" phone is only a temporary fix. I'm still waiting 'til either westside GSM services improve (unlikely since Cingular's been here for ages and they still can't get a signal through the walls of my place), I move into a place where I can get a GSM signal indoors, or Verizon comes out with some truly nice non-Motorola Bluetooth enabled phones.

My keitai is AU by KDDI, and a Sanyo model. Its cheaper than NTT Docomo and better than Tuka. Its an older model though, 2 years old, so the pictures, movies and videos it takes are not as clear as the newer ones. Also the graphic interface is a not as vivid as on the newer ones. The newer ones have broadband internet connection so its a bit better. Also they have better video-mail reception. Im thinking about changing to Docomo since their i-mode service is more comprehensive too and I want to take more advantage of online banking and buying services, although it will mean spending more.

I'm thinking of getting a Motorola 551 through Cingular. Its -$75 after rebate on amazon (as in I get 75 bucks back for buying the phone). Any thoughts?

Finally got a home cell phone again.
A Motorola V551.
I thought the camera would be a nice addition. Eh. After uploading the pics to the PC (via Mobile PhoneTools), I noticed that there's a lot of glare, and pics even at my stillest look a tincy fuzzy.
Oh, well, that's the price I pay ($75 bucks or so with a work plan).

yeah it looks cool
mine was nokia 8310... nice sleek phone, and tiny. Radio, a definate plus... o and voice recording and command and dialing (sweet)...but hey, pretty old; they don't sell ne faceplates nemore... and it kept switching itself off or resetting- frustrating when ur in the middle of writing text.
So i'm waiting for my new nokia 5100. Colour screen, radio, flashlight, thermometer, splash/dust resistant, squishy surface; shock absorbance... NO VOICE RECORDING :(...

IM/AIM, Remote Administration via ssh/telnet or windows terminal.
Calender, Address Book, To Do list, etc etc etc.

1.2 MP Videophone.. has a mini-sd slot.
Pretty big screen.
can play movies.. I have music videos, 40 songs, a movie and a couple of tv shows on one card.
It's better than a PSP (to me) as its my phone.. so it's always on hand if I'm bored.. I can watch movies ripped from DVD and I can listen to the sound via my bluetooth headset or via the very loud speaker.
also it has a feature only one other phone (it's predecessor the i860.. which I keep as a backup) has. The "Push to Flip" feature.
Basically you push a button on the side of the hinge... and it flips up automatically
