UC Davis alumna Kollyn Muangmaithong said she thought of beauty pageants as stereotypically superficial รข until she herself became the newest reigning Miss Asian America on Sunday in San Francisco.

Sociology majors...
Either go on the Real World or Beauty Pageants.
Apparently we are not doing our jobs right. None of these people understand gender stratification, objectification, exploitation, body and gender politics, and all other significant progress made in the field of sociology...
So disappointed.
Another note, I get really annoyed by the publicists who write crap like this.
'Muangmaithong also said she felt the pageant would provide her the opportunity to become more visible in the Asian community and make a difference.'
'The Miss Asian America website stresses that the competition serves as a stepping stone for participants to achieve their future goals.'
Come on, what do I look like, stupid or something? (Don't answer that...)
