Ohio 2 Congressional Race: Paul Hackett’s Contributors; Jean Schmidt’s Contributors
Last night, Democrat Major Paul Hackett, USMC, lost his race for the House of Representatives in Ohio’s Second District by 4 points – about 4,000 votes out of 114,000 votes cast. In 2004, the Democrat running in OH02 lost by 44 points. Last night, Major Hackett had one eleventh the prior margin, in one of the reddest parts of Ohio.
Jean Schmidt, the Republican challenger, won the race 52% to 48%. 114,000 voters is a huge turnout for a special election, and big turnout was supposed to hand a disastrous result to Hackett. But a 70% Republican district voted 48% for a Democrat.
Here is a partial list from the Federal Elections Commission of contributors to Paul Hackett’s campaign, and to Jean Schmidt’s campaign. These lists identify some organizations and companies whose officers or owners contributed to each candidate. These lists do not reflect the complete list of individual contributors.

Money and elections, as an Iraqi War veteran, he lost by a small margin considering these districts were said to be 70% Republican. Also, these districts are heavily gerrymandered by, I believe, republican interests.
