(CBS 5) Police were still searching Tuesday for the kidnapper who left a teenage girl for dead on a quiet Hayward cul-de-sac.

"I looked over there and saw her laying on the ground and ran over," said the witness who found the 16-year-old victim Monday night. "I asked her if she could breathe because she was bound and gagged."

The witness did not want to be identified, and said he was still shaken over the incident.

Bruce McCabe lives across the street and was the next person to rush to the girl's aid.

"My neighbor removes the tape, and she had gauze in her mouth too, so he got that out. She was talking but obviously extremely excited," said McCabe. "I took the tape off her eyes so she can see but she was still bound with duct tape behind her back. Every time she lifted up, there was so much blood everywhere. I just said, 'Please, stay down,' and I just tried to calm her."

The girl had a severe stab wound to her chest and her throat had been cut. But McCabe said she was still able to talk.

"She's going, 'I'm only 16. They stabbed me in the heart. I don't want to die,'" he said.

Investigators believe the victim is the same girl who was reported kidnapped from 9th Ave. in Oakland Sunday afternoon. In addition to the stabbing, she was sexually assaulted, and officials said she was in stable condition Tuesday but not out of the woods yet.

Either way the person appears to have been mistreated. As soon as she is better, there is a whole list of questions which should be asked.
