Maaaaaaate! :D

I'm actually from Singapore, parents are of Chinese and Straits-Chinese (Nyonya) descent.

Migrated to Australia just recently and am also getting married late next year to a local Australian boy. The transformation, dare I say, is near complete. Apparently I still need to go to my first cricket match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and drink copious amounts of Fosters. Or run after goannas in the Aussie outback yelping, "Crikey!"

Apart from assimilating completely into Aussie society, I spend my life writing, web-designing, desktop-publishing and planning for the impending wedding. A few interesting cultural issues have come up already, courtesy of my folks. And I'd like to see what perspectives you guys have on them.

But till then, hello. And hello again.

And those dingoes ain't getting MY baby.

/end wank

Woah, that's a whole lotta karma. Thanks, you peranakan beauty, you :)

This year's the 25th Anniversary of the disappearance of little Azaria Chamberlain, who her parents claim was taken by dingoes from their on a camping trip. Her blood-soaked clothes were found a week later by a tourist. The media made it clear they throught the parents were lying.

Thus the media summary of her mother's defence was, "The Dingoes Ate My Baby". It's also the name of Oz's band in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

In the mean time, wank on, all. Maaaaate :)

Wah kao eh, Anaestacia. You think I kena Aussiefied until so power one, hah?
*parries a bubor chacha in your direction* Thanks for the grats too :D

s1eve: *waves at you in a similarly inverted fashion* my dad still likes to joke about how he wants to come to Australia "today", or in his exagerrated imitation of the accent, "to-die". Kills himself laughing, he does.

dude.

it's cold enough for a refreshing stout :) Apparently a pint of Guiness is equivalent to a whole roast dinner in calories.

Must find beer.

I've been reading the boards a bit and I feel a bit out of touch with a lot of stuff but I'm sure I'll find something thought-provoking to contribute. Party on, people.

*feels a little sick and throws up on her life-sized Arnie Terminator 2 cutout*

*makes mental note to take a picture of it later for Gumby's pleasure*

You don't have to look hard, I reckon. They'll all be passed out on the floor.

Dang. Must come over to Melbourne more often!

I like Melbourne more than any other city in oz... great cafe culture,food,nightlife..etc. Very cosmopolitan.

Have you been here? http://www.melbournepubs.com/venues/889/Croft-Institute.html

Come live here then! I've loved it so much I decided to stay. Though it's not as cold as NZ, you'd be here in thongs and shorts all day ;)

No, I haven't been to The Croft Institute but I have made the many twists and turns to get to that place. I stood outside the door and thought, "Screw this, I want my beer without having to get a treasure map out to find the bloody bar, thank you very much."

But now that you've mentioned it, maybe I should get out my pith helmet and go searching for it again. What's your review of it?

Sounds like a Chemistry student's dream. Or nightmare.

Wonder if they do more than serve drinks ... :D

It's just on of those places you gotta visit. I've been there a few times... it's always consistently good with the music, as I think different floors caters to different kinds of music.

They do do great cocktails... mmm cocktails(no innuendo please people....)

Um... pays to go find your chemistry experiment elsewhere... *cough

I'd come over to stay but I have commitments over here. But if all pans out, might be over sometime in 2007.

I love Melbourne too! Had a great time the last time I was there. Hopefully I'll be there in the new year for F1.
