kill it! smash it! diediedie!

well, if it has to be aired, i hope an asian makes the first cut. i'm still pissed about the miss america pageant booting the hottie representing hawaii before we got to see anything from her.

I was in the auditions @ austin
I made it through the preliminary screening, round 1, and round 2.
and I got screwed round 3 cause of my sore throat
ask me for details if you want but this topic seems dead

I don't like american idol. That girl Kelly whatever her name won't be a big hit, just a one-hit wonder like so many bubblegum stars.......

As an "American Idol?" Right.

Like that black girl ever had a chance the first time around.

Just watched the last couple episodes, really got hooked on it. It would be really great to see an Asian face though.

I have to agree, usually when they're looking for something to be called an "american idol" or something to that effect, they're looking for the quintessential "all-american" girl, blond-hair blue eyes preferrably, but exceptions can be made as far as hair and eye color are concerned, so long as you're white.

The black girl (i forgot her name, tamia, tamaria, something like that) was the best one imo. But that's OK, she'll probably get a better deal than Kelly.

Seeing an asian face would be great, especially if it was asian male (it's more likely you'll see an asian woman as a singer as opposed to an asian man is the reason i said that).

^--- Nahhh, Kelly was way better than Tamyra. But I'll admit Tamyra was AWESOME. She should have at least made final 3. She was way better than hick white girl.

I went to one of the concerts on their tour about a month ago. Surprisingly, it was pretty fun. There are a lot of Asians in the audience (also surprising considering we were in Wilkes-Barre, PA).

I'd like to hear about your experience, BL. I think kasia might too.

heh funny I was the only Asian American male who was there for the 3rd round in austin
I'll come back later and tell you guys about it
for now I have class and other things to attend to :)
i know why i didn't make it and it was my own fault for not keeping myself in good health :pissed:
but I'll finish the story later

Hmmm, well I was there at 10:00 P.M. on Tuesday, November 5th and I was the only idiot there in short sleeves. I thought it might be a riot there like there was in NYC so they'd hand out the wristbands early and I could go home. I was sooo wrong. So I froze my ass solid waiting there until 7:00 A.M. the next morning. Fox News came by early right before everything started. I met this one guy there who was real good. His name was Andreas Franklin. His three sisters were there with him and they were competing also. Shoot they were all good. I thought they'd all make it. But yeah they did a Star Spangled Banner acapella together for the news.
Great... I need to go <_<
I'll finish the story in like and hour or so

BaiginLong
12-04-2002, 10:33 PM
err I guess I lied (school sux), continuing story now...
ok so after the news deal they got the line moving and the american idol people screened everyone, registered the first 600 people who made the preliminary screening (we had to sing for those too), and gave colorcoded wristbands to the other people who make it in.
I got in for the Friday, Novermber 8th audition, and I had to be there @ 8:00 A.M. Great.... so I went back to Baylor so I could catch one day of class (which didn't help at all, but hey) and had to catch a ride back to Austin on Thursday night. I stay at one of my friends places (non-Asian) and catch a taxi back to the Doubletree and eat some breakfast before doing anything. So I got there, was nervous all day. I saw about 5 Asians altogether there (but there were some more in the line on Tuesday but I had no idea who made it and who didn't that day) and I was the only AA guy there. Not cool. I survived, and I was like wow who knows I can go further. I stay at another guys place (he's Asian) and he coaches me on one of my songs/dance routines. That's good. I got there the next day @ 7:00 A.M with breakfast in stomach and I meet the president/producer of the who deal who happenes to be my judge that day. My first judge liked my personality soo much that he rushed me up the second part of the line to meet el presidente. And I scored another pass. But I felt bummed cause my voice was screwing up and I called mom (who had no idea I was even doing this) whether I should continue since I made it as far as I did. She didn't help much so I said what the hey and went for it. Lo and behold I didn't catch breakfast and I couldn't control my notes well thus screwing my chances.
I learned 5 things:
1. when standing in longs lines prepare to wait
2. when standing in really long still lines prepare to sleep or freeze
3. always catch breakfast (or brekki as the Brits and Aussies called it when I was there) before your crucial endeavors
4. Halls helps but health is definite
5. having friends and family with you for these things is good (but I was there all alone  )

well finally finished
hope you enjoyed the story though I let everyone down hehe I tried my best
if you have any more questions just post them on this topic

Just watched a Pilipino make the cut. Simon called him a "good looking guy with a [good?] voice but r&b is not [his] thing." I wonder what he meant by that; if r&b is solely a black domain with the possibility of white people but not Asians, or if the contestant's voice and style isn't really meant for r&b. Maybe just reading too much into it. When the host congratulated him after the tryout, they did some chest bumps and the host asked "do you do kung fu" which was like... -blink- -boggle- ..I mean, come on, the guy has a Spanish last name and looks mostly Pilipino, Kung Fu is not from the Philippines... and it's a fucked up question anyway.

whew, i feel so bad for some of the people that simon tells off, but honestly, they deserve it. if you're that self-absorbed that you think you sound great even though you sound like crap, it's good to have your ego deflated. there's a difference between having a bad day and having no talent. at least, that's my opinion based on what i saw.

Well, it's nothing to get too worked up over. American Idol is crap tv for people who don't really care about the kind of music they listen to or the content in it. Who honestly thinks those singers are good, soulful vocalists? The clips I watched of the final singers were painful.

And wouldn't you rather get lasting fame rather than Andy Warhol's obligatory 15 minutes? The whole thing's like the Gong Show for the 21st centry. I don't even see or hear about Kelly Clarkson (or whatever her name is) anymore.

He's the lone APA on the show left.

There should be 2 wild cards.

4 shows with 2 each means there's 2 spots left over.

Maybe the WC show will be one call-in winner and one judge's choice. Not sure how they're doing the WC, but that's just my guess.
