What are the best student loan companies or loans or what have you out there? What are some of the lowest interest rates y'all have gotten?

luckily i never had to take out a student loan. my dad finally got around to asking the a&m teacher about jobs and stuff and she said the aamu.edu website could tell u more than she knows. it has all sorts of info from work/study programs to financial aid and student loans. but u've prolly already checked the site out. sorry i couldn't be of more help.

I had Sallie Mae for my loans. My lowest interest rate was somewhere between 4-5% but this was back 5-6 years ago. There is a loan that can be taken out in your paraents name, i think it's called Parents Plus or something like that, and that interest rate was 8%. don't do that one! try to get as many subsidized loans as possible (altho how much you get is probably out of your control) because those will not charge intereste until 6 months after you graduate. unsubsidized loans start accruing interest as soon as you start school. you might know this already but maybe this will be of some help.

Well school starts in a week. Needless to say, i've already gotten all my finances in order, at least for this semester.

I did take out an unsubsidized loan.......................and like I said, I'll be alright. I actually have not checked the website, I hate looking up shit on the web for info to tell you the truth, cause it seems like it could always be wrong. I'd rather talk to an actual person about it. Appreciate the help anyway tho, man.

Anyway................yes I tried to get the parent plus loan, but we were rejected for it. Anyway................I'm hoping to get a job on campus, makes it easier on me. I don't know if HSV has buses, if I get real desperate I might have to do that just to work, not that I can't get nobody to take me, it's just that I'd hate to have to pay gas money to somebody everyday for them to take me to work. Riding the bus is something I would never do in Birmingham, but maybe it's different in Huntsville. Anyway wongba, does HSV have buses? How long do they run? I'm serious man I might have to use that shit if I can't get a job on campus.

there is a shuttle in hsv. check this site out. http://www.ci.huntsville.al.us/PublicTran/shuttlemap.htm

i remember seeing it high school and wondering how much money it lost every year b/c i never saw more than 2-3 ppl riding it... if any were riding it at all. and it only runs to 6pm. i could see that being a problem if u're expecting to go to school during the day and work at night.

maybe u could get a used car?

Yeah but in order to get a used car I'd have to have a job, wouldn't I?

Our family only has one car among the four of us now, so more than likely they're about to try to get another one, and that's just for the family. They'd have to get a third car for me.

BTW, shuttle? Well I looked at the website - it runs from 6 to 6 (hell, Birmingham's runs from like 5 AM to 9 PM, I think).

I'd have to do like a high school kid and work four hours a day in the evening.

If you're struggling to pay the bills and you are a young male in the USA, it's not worth it to get a car, because the insurance rates will be outlandish. You can't imagine how needing to use your bike to do basic things will motivate you that much more to work harder in school for your future, etc.

^ Who said anything about getting car insurance?

Seriously though our family went years without it. And the only reason we got it because Alabama made it illegal for you not to. But still. We took that risk for years and i guess for that reason i never saw it as something that i *had* to have.

if u're worried about the price of a car, older used cars have pretty reasonable prices. me and my roommate bought an 88 civic for $500 to practice driving stick shift cars. state farm said the liability on it would be $200 a year (i think... or maybe its 6 months). my rate is prolly similar to younger male drivers b/c i've had so many accidents. i don't have insurance on it tho b/c we only drive it at low traffic times to the grocery store and back.

Auto insurance isn't so much for yourself as it is for the other person's (or the other person's insurance company's) benefit should you be at fault in an accident.
