I'll start by putting a link to a video up. These dudes are crazy and this is a pretty old video. It's well worth the time if you have broadband.

Just like I said before (prob in other forums)... many luxury manufacturers are going for very high HP.

http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container.jsp?/...modelCode=S600V (http://www.mbusa.com/brand/container.jsp?/models/main.jsp&modelCode=S600V)

I think they are going insane. First BMW, then Audi, now Mercedes with a V-12 twin turbo packing 493HP (and 590ft/lbs!) in their S600. The S55 is also 493HP (516ft/lbs) with an SC`ed V-8. 0-60 for both? 4.6 seconds! The Maybach has 550HP and 800ft/lbs but is extremely limited production (1000/year worldwide).

Fuck. I just spent an hour reading this and drooling over the STi. Then I read more in depth about the R32, and goddammit Jensen, I want one!

Can this be? A turbohead converting to unbo0sted?

The R32... haven't seen much info on that car til that article. I guess they are trying to say that it's a more civil car while retaining the performance aspects. That does appeal to me as modding is getting out of my blood and EMS tuning/driving is replacing that. I don't know about going unboosted though. That's kinda jacked unless you have a big engine.

I've always liked German suspensions better than the Japanese OEMs. That alone might make me lean towards the VW.

Modding is definitely getting out of my blood, and the R32's 3.2L engine sounds good to me. In the article, they mentioned the STi and the Evo both have sticky rubber whereas the R32 was fitted with a mere street compound. That the R32 came within nine tenths of a second in regards to lap times made my eyes bulge. With similar rubber, I am quite certain the VW would be able to hold its own on the track alongside, possibly surpassing, the Evo and the STi. It may be the way the author directed his bias, but lap times hardly ever deceive.

I wonder when it will be available....

I wonder if VW will open a rally division in getting the R32 out there. That would be interesting.
