(CNN) -- Members of the sniper task force arrested an ex-soldier and his stepson early Thursday at a freeway rest stop. Sources told CNN the two were considered suspects in the shootings that have killed 10 and wounded three in the Washington area.

Sources identified the two as John Allen Muhammad, 42 -- a Gulf War veteran named in a federal arrest warrant for firearms violations who was being sought as a material witness in the sniper case -- and his 17-year-old stepson John Lee Malvo, a Jamaican citizen.

you can't hang a man who's a SUSPECT. Sheesh where's the "innocent till proven guilty" justice around here? On a site about Asian (minority) issues, no one's suspicious they arrested a BLACK man who has an ARAB last name?

Amen! Let's give the guy his "fair" day in court before determining exactly what kind of revenge we want to exact on him.

But yeah, if he's guilty, I'd say he's a good candidate for the d.p. (death penalty, that is).

Agreed. Many not-guilty people (Innocent= NOT involved. They were involved.) got death penalty, for crimes they didn't commit. This is a pretty big case, that they should look into. Should they be found guilty, then this whole ordeal will end. If not, the shootings will continue.

Hell no! Convict, convict, convict! There's no way it could've been a white man! We all know that there's no such thing as white serial killers:P

It's been updated. Malvo's been arraigned as a material witness. The rifle (same caliber type gun that's been used in the attacks), scope and tripod has been found in the vehicle.

Heh. Wonder how long this one will drag on for. Will it leave a mark on CNN viewers? Or will it fade into the darkness like the Elizabeth Smart incident?

For those of you that don't know/remember, Elizabeth Smart was that girl that got kidnapped. It was plastered all over TV until 9/11 knocked it off the air. The conclusion- They found her remains somewhere. Sad, huh?

Montgomery County, MD.

Chief Charles Moose is now holding a press conference. The two arrested are Muhammed, 42 and his stepson. The rifle was found in the vehicle that the two were arrested, and was linked to the sniper attacks. Apprarently they were caught after the police linked a bank account number that was given by the snipers in question.

Let's see how the justice department deals with this one.

Well, then they'll take their chances, yeah? If in one week I see not a shooting related to sniping, I'd say it's safe that we've caught the snipers.

Those fuckers.

But I think one thing is a little odd. For two men who seem to have "always been one step ahead of authorities," why the fuck would they allow themselves to fall asleep at a rest stop?!?!? Shouldn't criminals on the run from the law technically be, like, careful...? Makes me wonder if they were set up?

This is the very reason I am skeptic about the credibility of their apprehension.

All the real sniper would need to do now is stop and these people are as good as fried. That is if they are not the snipers. Plus the sniper had the tarot card which said I am god.. if it were these two wouldnt it be we are god?

Then again i dont see how these two could be caught in a van with that kind of weapon on them and have been set up, unless someone put the weapon in there while they were asleep.

its possible there are copycat killers, too. i mean if one guy can get a sniping rifle, so can someone else. plus the later notes totally don't jive w/ the first one:

why would a guy who wrote "i am god" be reduced to lame-o notes like "lock up your kids" or even worse, "i want 10 milllllion dollars!" those 2 notes do NOT sound like some dude who has an omnipotency trip (well, the first one, MAYBE, but the second one is just too commonplace-greedy).

second, the first descriptions of the getaway vehicle were all WHITE but i believe the suspects were caught in a BLUE vehicle (unless i read wrong). That license plate is kinda damning tho. but *shrug* it's possible that even if they're guilty, they're copycat killers and the original is still on the loose.

I have heard that the "light colored van" description that was first identified as the sniper vehicle was actually a hoax tip. I am unsure what happened because the details are all so jagged and sketchy. Could have also been misinformation set forth by the police dept since we all know how intelligent and reserved the media is.

Regarding the Taro cards. I think the Stepfather wrote "i am god." It seems as if criminals have a sliding scale intelligence level. The longer on the run, the stupider they get. Their most recent demands become more mundane and outrageous because their actions have taken place over a period of time. It's draining to be "on the run." I think that they started out with a plan, but did not plan far ahead enough... so towards the end they were just playing it by ear. Who knows... only Hannibal Lecter can relate to these people.

I don't know. First they were looking for a white guy in a chevy astro. Now they snagged two black guys in a blue sedan.

The ballistics match to 11 of the 13 shootings and 2 killings in Alabama.

I don't know what to think at this point.

I kinda feel with angel too, for the magnitude of these crimes, to go out like the way they did, getting caught sleeping in a rest stop is anti-climatic.

not only that...

1) one of them left a fingerprint to be found.
2) they (or the real snipers) demanded 10 million deposited into a domestic account.

I also like to add, the car the 2 were found in was modified so that the trunk and back seat could be used as a sniper seat. The rear trunk had holes cut out so that the sniper could fire unnoticed from multiple angles. So all they had to do is park somewhere with the trunk facing the target pull the seat down, load up, fire on a target, the driver could close the backseat and the sniper hides in the trunk till the driver takes them to a safe spot.

Yep. If they had any brains, they would have laid low for a while after their first several victims, and reappeared after six months. But apparently they got a taste for the power that comes in hiding in a trunk, sticking your rifle out of a peep hole, and shooting innocent people.

i fear for the minority musliam population who needless to say are peaceful and law abiding. what would the arrest of a serial sniper named muhammad do to their already tattered image after 9/11 and the recent and tragic moscow siege? dammit!, a few fanatics ruin the image of their religion, and of course, being in america they're not going to be given any fair interpretation are they?
i think even louis farrakhan denounced the snipers. and of course the islamic community in general don't want to be associated with nation of islam.
